We used the Pine Valley Lodge as a "base camp" before and after our backpacking trip in the Wallowas. It was wonderful.

Staying anywhere with twin toddlers is a challenge, but our spacious rooms (with mini-kitchen) gave us room to spread out and play, and the grounds were a shady pleasant place to relax. Friendly staff directed us to the best nearby playgrounds, cheerfully accommodated our messes at breakfast, and even had our favorite "blankie" (which mistakenly and sadly got left behind)waiting on the bed for us when we returned for the second half of our stay.

I wouldn't limit the Pine Valley Lodge to a family trip either -- I think it would be a great, relaxing get-away for a couple or friends. The property is big enough to spread out so we found it easy to be alone or to hang out with other guests on the deck or over breakfast. The décor is quirky and casual, the common spaces inviting, and the breakfast yummy.

Overall, a very comfy, cozy, out-of-the-way spot for a stop over or a stand alone vacation. I would highly recommend it. We're definitely planning to return.

Awesome little room in the middle of nowhere but a great retreat after a long day in Hell's Canyon. We new we would be later than the desired 6 pm checkin so we just called the lady and she was very nice and left our keys for use I. The lobby and gave us the coded entry code. The room was cozy and the bed was comfortable. My adult daughter slept in the nook and loved it but she was short, a taller person might find it a little snug. It was quiet and clean. The breakfast was great with fresh fruit, yogurt, waffles, breads and everything was excellent. We will be back.

I enjoyed my stay at the Pine Valley Lodge. The room and grounds were appealing and the proprietor was pleasant. Breakfast was above average. Halfway is sleepier and a bit more ramshackle than I envisioned but was a friendly place.

After driving the Hell's Canyon Byway in Eastern Oregon, we were greeted by warm chocolate chip cookies and scones....yum! Susan was friendly and helpful, but gave us our space. We had the Master Loft in the Yellow House with a separate bedroom for our adult son. The breakfast included waffles and fresh fruit...and all the coffee we could drink! I'd definetely recommend it. We had to walk a couple of blocks for cell service and the internet was iffy, but that's what you expect this far from town:-).

As always, the stay was excellent. Your willingness to accommodate our large group was above what I expected. Everyone felt at home and comfortable in their surroundings. We appreciated the use of the barbeque to feed the ladies and we appreciated it more than words can tell.

Room tip: Have stayed in two different rooms myself, both the Rooster Room and the adjoining area are excellent. Have had friends in almost every room and we all agree that they are excellent. The smaller rooms are great for overnight because of the lounge area in main lodge.
