“great location”
Reviewed 2 March 2014

Hotel is only a 3 minute ride from the main dock of water taxis. Rooms are large, clean, and comfortable. Sitting in the restaurant or relaxing in the lobby overlooking the water is fantastic. Staff very helpful. Wifi in rooms works well.

we stayed in the ocean suite room over looking the water, which was lovely, only thing that would have made it better would have been screens on the sliding doors, so we could have the windows open.
I would recommend staying at least 4 nights as it rained for two days of our three and this can be very typical in Boca. It did not stop us from exploring the island and having a great time though.
The food at the hotel was excellent, I had the garlic shrimp which I am still salivating over...ummm and the different kinds of ceviche - fantastic.
Jose and his wife and family were very welcoming. Jose it would be great if you had the bar open later for the guests of the hotel, but still a great stay.

The bar we close at ten in the evening because there are some clients prefer sleeping and not disturb.

We stayed at Hotel Oasis for 3 nights in their newly renovated suite. It had 2 balconies over the water and two hammocks. The hotel is easily accessible by a 3 minute $1 pp boat-taxi from Bocas Town and is available 24 hours per day.

The staff were very helpful and friendly, and the dinners were great.

Overall we were really glad we stayed here rather than in the noisier and mixed crowd in Bocas Town.

Holding back from 5 stars is: no hot water from the bathroom sink, not enough water pressure from the shower, no screens for the balconies and the very basic breakfast.

We would certainly stay there again and recommend it highly. A four day stay or more would be better as the weather can be so unpredictable.

Room Tip: While more expensive we're glad we took the suite with two balconies over the water. They were...

100%? Is that even real? Yes, it is. And it's deserved.

My better half chose Oasis randomly through booking.com without knowing the area, and has a habit of really getting it right without even doing anything - and we really lucked out, big-style. I hadn't even looked at Booking or TripAdvisor this time around so had no idea what to expect. I had assumed we were staying on Isla Colon, so it was a slight panic at sunset after i found out we were on a different island, particularly as it took the best part of 8hrs to get down to Almirante from San Jose. Thankfully, Isla Carenero is a $1.00/60-second boat taxi away from any Colon taxi point - literally opposite - and it was an easy transfer.

If you don't know Bocas, Oasis might potentially appear a little ramshackle when you first arrive. When you see the alternatives, you'll understand why this hotel is so special. Any doubt dissipates when you see one of the caring, friendly faces on the hotel pier deck rushing out to help you and welcome you like an old friend. The building is over the water, with waves lapping at the front woodwork. If you're really, really lucky, you may even see dolphins nosing around in the morning away from the mass of tour boats snapping cameras at them (very rare, but possible).

And that is what defines this amazing little place: how friendly and genuinely caring the staff are. You really matter. It's utterly adorable; a visceral distinction you can't quite explain, but just feel.

Bocas appears to be taking the route of Ibiza: investors buying up real estate on a small, beautiful resort, in order for it to be slowly assimilated by loud, brash nightclubs that pump out bone-crushingly loud electronic music - a cruel fate. The dollars are building, and the nightlifers want young, clubber cash. You can't admire the business savvy of Jose in choosing the excellent location, which is on the edge of the more "local" residential island opposite. The hotel has a distinctly calm vibe which is cleverly maintained by deliberately offering what Bocas actually should, but doesn't: beauty & calm. No swimwear on the rails, close-down at 10, family-friendly environment, custom service, fantastic food, late-night bar chat.

Carenero itself is not much to write home about, but that doesn't matter, as all you have to do is ask for a water taxi, and one arrives in 2-3mins to take you wherever you need to go in the archipelago (e.g. Red Frog beach).

Oasis is peaceful, extremely clean, quiet, relaxed, completely stocked with what you need, and everything you'd expect from a tourist-friendly venue. It's indicative when you see Jose's genuine modesty about being surprised over the reviews. I've never seen 100% on TA before now. It's not a 5*, as he humbly admits, but it's just got everything seamlessly right.

The bar area is delightfully open-plan, with comfy sofas, a relaxed central bar area, and everything surrounded by the flowing water. A small pier leads out onto a romantic veranda that has very charming lighting, always with sunglasses-wearing, uber-friendly staff ready to chat and laugh in impressive English.

But the real jewel of Oasis is its kitchen - the evening food. Wow. It took us aback. It was extraordinarily good, with a chef to whom it is genuinely important that you love it. What would really make it would be a bi-weekly movie night after a great meal - maybe on the veranda.

The only real gotchas are the limited breakfast (everyone put up with my constant requests for pancakes with a lot of laughter), the lack of a machine to pay by card, wifi that's pretty slow (gets you off email), and the local island being a bit bare (just hop over to town). Life moves slowly in Bocas though, which you come to love.

The staff always make any place, and the warmth of the welcome is a genuine reflection of who these guys are, not the job they do. Whether it's getting straight on the phone to get you a taxi, going out of their way to walk to the local shop to get you a pack of cigarettes at night (thanks little Jose!), making sure you're paying the right taxi price, organising a tour, understanding the ATM can be a mission to get to once you're tired from the beach, they truly care. You matter to them. And you can't help but be drawn into it and feel immediately safe, comfortable, and at ease. You're an old friend somehow, even if you haven't met before.

Then you look over to Bocas Town, with its flashing disco lights and full-blast music that never seems to stop at night, and realise why the little hideaway you're staying in deserves its very apt name.

P.S. Tips: the food at Happy Nomade (on Colon) is absolutely incredible - as recommended by Carlo. Watch out for VERY aggressive stinging/biting sand flies on the more remote islands ("chitras" as they're known). Ask for a "Monkey La La" cocktail (nicer than Pina Colada).

Thank you very much for such a lengthy comment, I really appreciate the time you have devoted to our hotel. It really has impressed us.
Well, our hotel is modest and we like to keep it that way, it is best to have direct contact with guests and feel with them their experiences.
Indeed our hotel is not 5 stars, is a familiar and modest hotel but we enjoyed it with our clients who want to feel a family stay.
A big hug and thank you very much your comment

Just got back from nine nights at Hotel Oasis. After reading all of the other reviews, it was an easy choice to pick this hotel. Owner Jose, younger Jose and the entire staff really make you feel like part of the family. It is located over the sea and has an amazing view. It is away from the noise and crowds of the main town yet close enough to make daily trips for only $1 per person. The staff can get water taxis over to pick you up in minutes, sometime faster.
The bar and restaurant are a perfect place to relax and have a drink with a nice breeze. Cheap beers and great food. The rooms are clean, spacious and well priced.
Whether you are going to Bocas to relax, surf or party (we did all three) Hotel Oasis is a great choice.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone and will definitely be coming back.

Perfect from the moment we arrived....this hotel is a gem, not only for its glorious location but more importantly because of the gracious and welcoming management and staff. Jose and Myra are truly wonderful hosts. They take a caring and hands on approach towards ensuring that you enjoy your stay to its fullest, offering great insight and recommendations on the best places to go, eat, etc, and arranging it for you - without any hard sell. Alternatively, the highly pleasant atmosphere can induce you to simply hang out, relax and take in the views. The food at the on-site restaurant is straightforward and overseen with great pride and care by Carlos. Our suite, with hammocks on the wrap around balcony, was immaculate. The staff - Joshua the boat captain, the bartender, waitress, Jose the bellman - were a delight. We were sorry to leave, even after 6 days.

Room Tip: Suite on the second level
