Two thinkgs I disliked about this hotel was 1. the shower was poor, just a drizzle now power and the resturant was closed by 9pm, so no good for late arrivals although you can have sandwiches.

“Restuarant needs a clean!”
Reviewed 18 August 2013

Came here for a change from Toby Carvery for Sunday lunch. We arrived 10 mins before service and so had a drink at the bar. During which we noticed the huge cobwebs and spiders in the 'Library' area. My partner got caught in them whilst walking through the bar there where so many! We were one of the first tables to be sat and straight away noticed the filthy wall that our table was against. There was old food splatters all over it.... Yuch! We both opted for the carvery... And after being ignored for 5 mins at the service area we were eventually served with beautiful meat, day old reheated potatoes, and stodgy yorkshires. The meal was nothing to write home about. For dessert my partner chose chocolate cake with lumpy custard and I had fresh (but mostly tinned) fruit salad. We were most entertained by the huge spider above the servers that kept threatening to drop onto the meat and by all the dancing bugs in thecob webs that live in the ceilings. The owners need to sort out the cleanliness of this establishment before we even think of returning. The only thing this restaurant has going for it is the friendliness of the staff.

“Are these reviews ever read by management at this hotel?”
Reviewed 12 August 2013

Return visit for Sunday Carvery ( to see if things had improved).
Well on arrival there were several empty dirty tables & potatoes on the floor, hardly a good start. Our waitress arrived to ask for our drinks order and was greatly put out to be asked to return when we had been givn the chance to sit down. Subsequently three other staff pestered us for our drinks order. Our original waitress returned, took our drinks order and left menus.
We decided to go for just carvery ( no starters) , we queued up by the carvery deck to await service. Well we got "service" by a very surly dark haired male who tossed 1 slice of turkey onto my plate and muttered when asked for at least 1 more slice; the veg were barely luke warm, likewise the gravy.
We ate quickly, there were NO attempts to ask us if all was well, however we did hear another table try to complain to an oriental looking woman, with no success.
It is a great pity more attention is not paid to even basic customer care, also of note are the hygiene habits of the carvers (yeuch). This carvery could be really good if more care was taken; the location on a sunny day is very attractive, pity the product is not the same.
Would be interested to hear comments from the management of this place on not just my, but other reviews on this site.

“Horrible carvery”
Reviewed 27 July 2013

This hotel and restaurant is situated right next to the River Stour and enjoys lovely views. It is also quite easy to find as it is right on the main road close to Longham Bridge and there is parking front and rear.

The Riverside Restaurant offers a daily carvery at £5.50 which appears to be good value but our experience was that the vegetables were undercooked, hard roast potatoes and the meat (we chose gammon and turkey) both tasted the same.

We did complain to the waitress but still had to pay for undercooked food which we left on the plate so it was clear we had not eaten much and when we left she said that she hoped we would come again - there is absolutely no chance of that ever happening. If they had done something about our complaint then maybe we would have considered going back.

Overall very disappointing

“Weekend Break”
Reviewed 9 July 2013

A varied choice of breakfast, all fresh and tasty. Doors were open as it was a hot weekend and we had lovely views of the River Stour and the surrounding countryside, whilst breakfasting.
