perfect example of man trying to tame nature. the canal was built a century ago to control the flood plain in area. wouldn’t happen these days. still a nice ride/walk. various entry points along the way. ends at elwood park on the beach which is joined to bay trail

We stayed 2 blocks from the canal and either walked or biked it several times a week. Seeing the tidal changes was interesting. The St Kilda street bridge, built in 1905, is the oldest surviving and probably the first reinforced concrete bridge built in Australia. It was designed by John Monash (Monash University).
