“Relief from work”
Reviewed 25 August 2014

Other than the handle on the toilet being loose & the breakfast from room service being incorrect, the valet parking being outrageous as well as the daily room service charge, the staff was very friendly & helpful with our questions to find different locations to visit on the island. Wish we had more time to play golf on the beautiful course.

Room Tip: Ask for updated room on east wing.

Myself and a friend of mine saw a great price online for this hotel and thought we got a really good deal and there was also a promotion for a $25 per day meal credit which was a selling point along with the beautiful scenery from the pictures. Upon our arrival we checked in with the front desk and were given our meal credit tickets. When we went upstairs to our room housekeeping wasn't even done cleaning it. As a matter of fact one of the housekeeping attendants was sitting on the toilet and the other one was standing up talking to her. We had to stand outside the room an extra few minutes while they finished. Major turn off considering they weren't even working and the girl at the front desk should have let us know our room wasn't ready. Later that night we attempted to go to 2 of the restaurants so we could use our meal credit tickets but were denied at both places. Finally, the waitress at the second restaurants directed us to the back of the ticket where in the fine print it said we were limited to use them at only 3 restaurants. Another turn off because we were never informed of this when we checked in. What made it so bad was the fact that one of the restaurants was a sushi bar and neither one of us eat sushi and the other 2 you had to make a reservation and the weren't even open everyday. Only on certain nights which made it impossible for us to use them during our stay. We complained to the front desk and the lady Julissa did nothing to help us. She just kept repeating the fine print over and over like something was wrong with us. We finally went over to the concierge desk and to try and be compensated in some way but they really couldn't help us either. All they were able to do was have me leave a message for a supervisor. After that fiasco a little while later we went back up to the room and there was a message on the hotel phone saying they would accommodate us by letting us use the tickets towards room service. We figured cool guess they heard our cry. That was too good to be true. Low and behold they were charging the room service to our room and nobody knew anything about the message that was left. I had to rip them a new one to get them to reverse the charges, which was very stressful. In addition to that they were doing construction on the hotel while we were there and turned off the water without notice. When I called the front desk to ask how long the water would be off they said they don't know. Crazy!!!. Housekeeping was extremely bad. We had to keep calling to have our trash taken out and for new towels. It was an utterly crazy experience overall. The only solace we got was down at the bar. There was an extremely delightful bartender by the name of John Ruiz who always took care of us and who was readily willing to listen to our issues we were having with the hotel. Honestly he was the only real nice person. All the rest of the staff was pretty much rude and uninviting. I would not recommend this resort at all. Not only because of all the issues that we had but because it's also 30-40 minutes away from Old San Juan which is where we should have been in the first place. Unless you have a car expect to be stuck there with limited options for everything and rude people.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for your review. We are glad you found our resort beautiful and had the opportunity to enjoy our culinary delights.

Regarding your opinion about the service we are truly sorry. It is disappointing when we don't meet expectations and I can assure you this is not the norm. Our scores are consistently high compared to other properties. Even more, every year we are recipients of awards like Gold Key, Pinnacle, and Triple A, among others which are given to hotels who provide high level of service.

I hope you give us another chance and visit us again in the near future.

GRAND regards,
Danny Williams

Under renovation things don't work at the hotel. Landscape is great and the beach is beautiful. They put a red flag because there is no life guard. Hotel that bill itself as a beach property and than advise the guests not to go to the water ?
There is almost no service at the beach unless you specifically ask. Food vary in quality and service. Hard to get anyone to answer a question.

My husband and I came to Puerto Rico and stayed at the Wyndham Grand Rio. The hotel was fantastic! The weather on the other hand not so great, it rained everyday with the exception on the day we left. We had a wonderful server at Marbella...shout out to "Willie"!

I researched a lot before I chose the Wyndham Río Mar for our family vacation. I was traveling with a husband who does not like to travel and two picky kids. I would just say that after 5 days in paradise, nobody wanted to leave. We have only been back for a week and the children (8 and 11) have started to save for our trip back.
The hotel is beautiful, the pool big and fun -with it´s water slide and swimming iguanas (I kid you not). They do an iguana feeding at 11 am and smores roasting at 6 pm.
We had an ocean front room in the 6th floor and it was perfect. The queen beds were very comfortable, the bathroom spacious and the view magical.
The beach there, in the Luquillo area, is amazing. If you walk a little more than a mile to the left, you will find an almost secluded beach with waters so calm and warm that feels like a pool.
We took a tour to El Yunque -Amazing tropical and cloud forrest (a must do) and drove to the Kioskos (scary looking on the outside, but delicious and well decorated restaurants on the inside).
The big CON were the prices of the food. The restaurants, as gorgeous as they are, were VERY expensive. There is not a real affordable choice in the resort. However, you can just go to the supermarket and buy your own thing and drive around for nearby restaurants. That said, the food was amazing. I loved the almond flour banana pancakes for breakfast and the creative gandules humus. The shrimp mofongo is out of this world and make sure you try the mojitos at the lobby bar, and the piña colada at the Tikki bar.
The staff is VERY helpful and sweet.
Overall, I would go back in a heart beat.
For a good deal you can check Gustazos, the Puerto Rican version of Groupon.

Room Tip: The rooms after the 4th floor are noise free. If you book ocean front rooms you can see the sun rise...

My family and I loved our recent stay, but the parking fee I find to be a rip off. The parking fee should be for those people who are not staying at the hotel. In the past military personal rates were much better, now they appear ed to be much higher.and not attracting at all. I was very disappointed in learning your new rates. Thank God I had triple A,otherwise I would of gone some where else.
