We spent a week here recently and thoroughly enjoyed it. The grounds are huge and beautiful. The pool area is very nice - big, yet still feels private - we also had no trouble finding chairs whenever we wanted. There's an enormous iguana that hangs out by the pool -- don't be alarmed but it won't hesitate to jump in and swim past you. This place is perfect for relaxing and unwinding. The rooms are large and private - we enjoyed dining on our patio quite a bit. The staff is very friendly and provides excellent service. It's a bit out of the way but we found it to be a good enough base for exploring the island with a rental car. My only piece of advice is to call ahead and make sure there aren't any conferences or company sales reward trips going on during the timeframe you want to stay -- there was one that started the last 2 days of our trip and the group was large enough that they really seemed to take over the place and you lost a little bit of that nice private, quiet feeling that we enjoyed so much the first part of our stay.

Stayed at the St. Regis few days ago. Grounds were beautiful. Rooms were nice. Everything else... Ehhh nothing to brag about. I was not impressed with the food at all. Service was not up to par with St. Regis brand name. Staff seemed lazy, did not go above and beyond... They just did bare minimum. Definitely NOT worth the $$ we paid. We will not return nor will we recommend this resort. Honestly, I'm not even sure why other reviewers are saying such lovely things about this hotel. This hotel does not live up to its name

Room Tip: Find a room at different resort. Not worth the $$

Dear Distinguished Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to detail your experience regarding your recent visit to our captivating resort.

Allow us to preface with an apology for your disappointment. This is certainly not indicative of the sophisticated level of expectations that has become the St. Regis trademark and legacy.

When you arrive at the most bespoke address in the area, it is understandable that you would want to be seduced by the beauty of your natural surroundings, and we regret that your experience fell short. Rest assured, your generous feedback is crucial for us to improve and has been addressed with the appropriate departments, in order to avoid this from reoccurring.

We do hope you will reconsider and return so that we may have the opportunity to reverse your initial impression, and treat you to the uncompromising service that thousands of our distinguished guests have grown accustomed to since our opening over four years ago.

Thank you for the gift of feedback and the opportunity to address your concerns.

We stayed a weekend, arriving 5/30-6/2/2014. The service was amazing from check-in to check out. Room upgrade-beachfront! W butler service, pool/beach staff-especially Clarissa were great! Special complimentary wine & champagne for our anniversary. Would absolutely recommend!

We recently stayed at this St. Regis, and I have nothing to say but positive things about the resort. It was our first stay in Puerto Rico, and I was very impressed! with the island and it's people. First of all, being my husband a platinum Starwood member, we were upgraded to a beautiful suite. That was very nice. The setting was wonderful, since we had a garden where we had coffee each morning, brought by our very friendly butler and watch birds and many lizards. It truly was paradise.
Another beauty of the site, were the evening and the sound of the coquis (this are really small frogs that sing really loud and I just loved). I was not lucky enough to see one myself, but the noise they made each evening was charming, another thing I enjoyed truly.
On the down side, I should warn people about the mosquitos. Unfortunately I discovered about them after my first evening, and I got bitten alive! It was late that I found out I should use repellent, so I had to go to the nightmarish situation of never ending itchiness. We warned!
The only but, I am going to mention, is the very noisy air conditioner (I imagine it's outdated), that made it impossible to sleep at night. We had to figure a system, which was to freeze the suite the hours prior to sleep time, and then turn it off for the night. There is room to grow in this area.
The service was impeccable, and every staff member that we met were absolutely polite, corteus and friendly. Kudos to your very well trained staff members!
Our continental breakfast was included in our program, which was adequate. I have to mention thou, that when I requested a refill of my orange juice, I was politely denied (or pay extra). I believe that at this level of expense, one should be allowed to an extra sip or two. Just my five cents.
The beach was gorgeous, and I can't understand why I read in so many reviews, that it seemed rough for swimming. Nonsense! There were so many sand dollars and star fishes, I could feel them with my feet when I was deep enough in the sea, and then easily dig them out to observe them and later return to the sea. What a joy!
There were enough chairs in the beach or pool side area. Never had a problem to get one.
The pool was beautiful and very relaxing, with a couple of very friendly iguanas roaming around.
We were celebrating our 31st wedding anniversary, and my husband must have mentioned it, since one evening during dinner at the Fern, the manager came by and congratulated us and sent us a glass of prosseco after dinner. Nice touch.
Last but not least, the grounds were absolutely gorgeous, with an amazing well kept landscape. Absolutely breathtaking.
Let me mention that the food at Molasses was not very varied, and the service there was a little spotty, sometimes it took us a while to get served.
Finally I need to mention, that I was a bit disappointed that we were not granted with a late check-out time (normally platinum Starwood guests get it all the time), and that when I stayed later at the beach on our check out day, and I went to the spa to use their showers and lockers (they don't offer this at pool restroom areas) I was told that I should pay $36 for this service, which I found outrageous since we got charged a daily resort $60 fee for a service that we didn't use once. The lady on the spa center told me that this was due that the spa is independent from the Hotel, but this should be addressed by the hotel. Unacceptable!
In all, we had a great time, and would come back again.

Dear Distinguished Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your recent stay at our resort.

We are elated that you thoroughly enjoyed your vacation! Although we strive to deliver an unforgettable vacation experience, it is unfortunate that you were not able to fully enjoy the beach. The two rivers which enhance our spectacular tropical surroundings only affect the beach water occasionally, when the weather and tide are extremely very adverse. To this end, we employ a strict sand sweeping program.

On a positive note, we are thrilled that you still were able to indulge in our world-renowned facilities, and found our staff to be sincerely dedicated to your absolute pleasure.

We hope to have the pleasure of indulging you once again, at the St. Regis Bahía Beach, the best address in the Caribbean.

This resort is absolutely perfect in terms of service and luxury. This is a great choice if you just want to get away for a luxurious, quiet pool/beach vacation isolated from the outside world. This resort could have been anywhere tropical; there was not a specific cultural flair except for the latino staff, who were charming to a person. We were there for a group business excursion and so our meals were catered for our group. The food was excellent and plentiful and again, service was outstanding. Poolside service was great too; prompt and friendly. The iguanas residing in the pool area were a fun distraction.
I would certainly return although I could probably get the same experience closer to home in the states.

I have stayed a couple times here and thoroughly enjoyed my stay each time. The grounds are fantastic and while the location isnt too convenient we found plenty to do during 3-4 day stays. Found Fern to be a little expensive for what it was but Molasses was great every time and reasonably (relatively speaking) priced. Great bar, great spa and fun golf course too.

This resort is impeccable and immaculate. The service and staff could not have been better. If you have disposable income and are looking for a place of tranquility and relaxation, this is the place for you! I will list a few tidbits in no particular order:
-the ocean is not swimable. If you want calm waters, this isn't for you. If you are satisfied with a great pool and a peaceful beach, go.
-this resort caters to peace, quite & relaxation. If you want Caribbean music playing by the pool, any activity by the pool or any night life, this isn't the place for you. Be prepared to be pampered but not entertained
-the staff will make sure you are completely satisfied. If you don't like your $17 (before tax & tip) drink, tell them and they will replace it.
-dial "0" from your room and they will pick you up on a golf cart
-the food and drinks did not blow me away (especially for the price point). I did not have one meal that was outstanding. Nothing was "bad", but nothing to write home about...it could just be the country of Puerto Rico and not this resort though...
-the pool was smaller than I was expecting, but very nice and well-maintained.
-the walkways to the rooms were really cool. In fact, the coolest I have ever visited. It was like walking through the rain forest (you actually were!).
-go to the "40 restaurants" in a row nearby. It's about a 25 min can ride, but was cool to eat at a local restaurant and listen to the bands.
-if you like sea turtles, give concierge your cell & room number and they will call you. Be prepared for it to be in the middle of the night. But don't expect it! No sea turtle spottings while I was there...
-the bioluminescent tour was cool, but not like I expected. The lagoon didn't "light up" like I was anticipating. The internet definitely over dramatizes the effect and photoshops in the lights in the pictures (our tour guide told us). I would still recommend for the experience. Tell the tour desk you want to book it through Enchanted Tours with Michael, a retired US Coast Guard-they are the best tour company out there. Very experienced and you will be able to see the difference once you get out there with 11 other tour companies and you are the only ones that have control and aren't chaotic!
-the rainforest tour was cool. If you have been to other rain forrest (Costa Rica, St. Lucia, etc), you are not missing anything. You don't see any reptiles or animals, only plants and trees.
-we did not venture into Old San Juan because we heard mixed reviews while there. I don't have any regrets about this. If you are into history and seeing the old forts, it might be fun. We had another couple with us that went on the Bicardi Rum Tour and had a terrible experience. Their tour guide set them up with lunch "reservations" and it turned out to be a place that had $50 lunches and no other people in there. The tour guide then got mad because they demanded they leave....with that being said, go with caution of people wanting to take advantage...

Overall, I would recommend this resort for rest & relaxation and 5 diamond service, IF you have disposable income. I will probably not return to Puerto Rico because I have found other islands to be prettier and more fun (I like nightly entertainment and daytime activities, which is not the case for some people). Like with everything, you cannot go wrong if you are well educated before you go!
