My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary weekend and it has to be the best b & b we have ever stayed at. Martyn was very welcoming and more than helpful, even giving us a lift to the start of our walk, above and beyond what we expected. Breakfasts were superb and served by two lovely helpful friendly staff members who were more than happy to stop and chat. Our room was superb and very clean. We were also shown the other rooms which were all equally charming and very clean. We will definately return here and would be more than happy to recommend it to anyone

We paid £100 per night for a two night stay in the "Lakeside" barn conversion which did not overlook the lake unless you stood on tiptoe and leant out of the high side window. Although the accommodation was fine, compared with other bed and breakfast places we stayed at this offered very poor value for money. For less cost, other places at which we stayed provided a good choice of tea, coffee etc. including in one place mineral water; facial tissues; individual toiletries and a good choice of menu at breakfast. When booking I was told that vegetarians were catered for - in the event a vegetarian breakfast was merely the standard breakfast without the meat! Highside is right on a main road and not so peaceful. Overall very disappointing and poor value for money.

Room Tip: It is not worth paying an extra premium to stay in the 'Lakeside' room

It was our first ever trip to the Lake District and we had certainly made the right choice of Highside Farm as somewhere to stay. We were made to feel most welcome right from the start and Martyn was so helpful in many ways. The rooms were very comfortable and the breakfast superb and we had many chats with the helpers whilst it was served. It was good to be on a working farm and to learn about some of the aspects of local life; my wife and I had a most enjoyable holiday thanks to Martyn and his team.

Recently had a very pleasant stay at Highside Farm with my family on holiday. It is very much a working farmhouse so be prepared for that, but the accommodations were warm and comfortable and our room was large and well appointed. Breakfast was very good and the proprietor very friendly. This is a lovely somewhat out-of-the-way base for visiting the Lakes.

My husband and I have recently returned from our third superb stay at lovely Highside Farm, nestled above the shores of beautiful Bassenthwaite lake. As usual Martyn and Gill made us very welcome from the moment we stepped through the door. On previous visits we have had our two small children with us so stayed in the family room which has a double and a single bed and Martyn provided us with a cot and a high chair. The beautifully cooked breakfasts (which are served by incredibly friendly staff) are very substanstantial, an excellent start to the day. Smaller portions were provided for the children, free of charge which we felt really was going the "extra mile" to ensure all ages are (more than) adequately catered for. On this occaision we stayed in a beautiful cosy room with a lone Kingsize bed and a bottle of wine which Martyn kindly provided, Bliss !?! Unfortunately not, as tranquility was spasmodically shattered by an obnoxious toddler resident with it's parents close by.

Once again we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Highside and will definitely return.

Room Tip: If it had been available, the Lake View looks fantastic and is VERY private. We have now stayed in t...

I would not recommend for children as was rigid for breakfast times (which wasn't until 8.30) and we had difficulty getting hold of anybody so couldn't check in and also when we were there nobody was ever around to help with any problems or queries.
