Simply superb. A beautiful and peaceful cottage in a great location for exploring the northern lakes. From the moment we arrived we fell in love. A warm homely feel with everything you could need for your stay. The log burning fire is to die for. Can't wait till we stay again.

“Supert Cottage”

Thoroughly recommend Poppy Cottage. It is a delightful small cottage in a great location for those wanting to get out and about, with plenty to see within about 20 minutes by car. The cottage is immaculate, extremely cosy and comfortable and Mark and Lynne have ensured everything is accommodated for, from extra bedding to a wide range of kitchen utensils. From the minute you step in the door you feel welcome, soft lighting, nice and warm and lovely gifts (chocs, wine, eggs). Garden is a little gem and the lovely summerhouse is a bonus - a superb place to spend an hour after a day walking with a mug of coffee and a book or a bottle of vino. The Greyhound pub is about a 5 minutes walk away. We didn't eat there but did enjoy a nice drink with the very hospitable locals. Opportunities for walkers are unlimited. A visit to Dodd Wood (about 10 minutes in the car) is a must, with superb walks to the summit of Dodd Hill. Skiddaw mountain behind Dodd Hill also provides excellent walks for the more adventurous. All in all, a very enjoyable week - highly recommended.

“Perfect cottage”
Reviewed 16 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

A lovely cottage in a great location. Owners provide everything you could need and more. Very convenient for visiting the lake district and even into Scotland. Can't think of a single fault and will definitely try to visit again.

Poppy Cottage was just perfect. I cannot recommend highly enough. Everything you need from a cottage and more. The doggy treats, wine, eggs and biscuits on arrival were a lovely surprise. The cottage is spotlessly clean, cosy and warm (thanks to the lovely woodburner - central heating too). It's a perfect base for getting around with Keswick only 25 mins away, Cockermouth only 10 mins away. The cottage itself is located in a small quiet village just a stroll away from the local village pub. Simply perfect.

“beautiful quaint cottage”
Reviewed 26 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

arrived Saturday evening to find a nice bottle of wine, box of chocolates and some eggs waiting for us! They hadn't forgotten the dog though, a bowl of fresh water and some doggy treats, I thought that was such a nice touch!
The cottage was very clean and maintained to a high standard. The gardens are lovely and the summer house was soooo nice to relax in.
Location is great for travelling around the lakes but be aware there isn't a village shop.
The local pub allows dogs in and serves nice food!
Would recommend this cottage very highly.

“Felt relaxed from the moment we walked in!”
Reviewed 11 September 2014 for a stay in August 2014

The location was ideal, close enough to Keswick and the lakes but also giving us a chance to explore the coast at Allonby. Fantastic sunsets, fish and chips and home made ice cream from Twentymans.
Exciting welcome tray on arrival and thoughtful touches throughout the property.
The owners have really tried to give their guests the best experience possible. They were also very helpful to us when booking.
Cosy lounge, comfortable bedrooms and lovely gardens full of birds.
Lay in bed listening to the owls!

“Poppy Cottage is a little gem”

Poppy Cottage is situated a few miles to the north of the Lakeland National Park in the village of Bothel. The village is quite drab with an average pub, however the cottage is superb and we will definitely stay again. We met the owners on arrival. They were very friendly and gave us useful advice on the local amenities. The cottage was absolutely spotless and literally everything is provided from linen and towels to eggs, a bottle of wine, washing up liquid and sticking plasters. All we have needed to buy is food. Electricity, gas and wi-fi are all included in the price. there are no extras. The accommodation is compact, but perfectly adequate for three people and you can bring your pets too. (There wasn't a dog hair to be found anywhere when we arrived). One thing to bear in mind is that the stairs are very steep and there are lots of steps in the garden. It is not ideal for young children or the frail elderly. Poppy cottage is a real find and we recommend it without hesitation.
