Owner description: A walk on the wild side just a 10 minute drive from Keswick. With the backdrop of the Skiddaw massif the emphasis is very much on conservation, education and engaging with visitors - our Keepers are keen to talk and enjoy passing on their knowledge and enthusiasm. Wander around our beautiful 24 acre parkland and see over 100 species. The magical Bird of Prey flying displays have been a regular feature since the park opened and we have gathered an eclectic mix of over 100 species from Anaconda to Zebra. The Granddad of the park is Brian the Lar Gibbon - he is the oldest in Europe and has pride of place in the centre of the park where he and his family can be seen swinging from the massive Oak tree. We are members of BIAZA and over the years we have successfully worked with Zoo stud books to breed species including Lynx, Asian Fishing Cats and Ring Tailed Lemurs to name just three.

This zoo is fantastic. We had pre booked a meet the meerkat experience which was amazing quality for its price. I had soo much fun. They dont have a lot of the bigger animals you see in larger zoos like elephants and giraffes but you dont notice. The talks and shows are amazing. They have several everyday and they are soo interesting. The staff are really friendly and amazing to talk too. They really are passionate about there work which really makes the atmosphere of the place that much better. You have to visit it wont disappoint.

We visited on a cold and very very wet October Wednesday in term time and not surprisingly we pretty much had the whole zoo to ourselves. The staff were helpful and almost every one offered us an umbrella as we walked round. We thoroughly enjoyed the day and having the whole zoo to ourselves, being able to take our time, see all the animals we wanted to see and not have to worry about upsetting others (and getting wet before drying out in a local pub) was a memory we will both cherish forever

OK so the park doesn't have some of the more exotic large animals, don't let that put you off.

What it does have is friendly knowledgeable staff, reasonable prices and healthy looking animals. We were surprised at how many of the animals didn't run and hide the minute we walked up to their enclosures.

The jewel in the crown has to be the Bird of Prey display, we enjoyed the morning display so much that we stayed to watch the afternoon show too. This display is worth the entry fee on its own. The presentation was very relaxed, with a bit of humour thrown in, but the guy clearly loved his birds and knew his stuff. We have been to a number of these displays over the years and this was by far the best.

Had a great morning here. You can get up close with lots of the animals and can even pet some of them. The staff are very friendly and always happy to help. If you are staying in Armathwaite Hall you can get 2 for the price of 1 on entry as well.

Husband and I took our 20-month-old here during a recent family holiday to the Lakes and had a wonderful time. Great value for money and so big! Our toddler adored the place and it was worth every penny to see how excited she was to see all the animals - there's a real variety from farm animals to birds and exotic animals. Pushchair-friendly paths and nice little soft play area which didn't cost any extra to use. We could easily have stayed for a good chunk of the day if only we'd arrived earlier than mid-afternoon.
