“A perfect break”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 November 2011

This was our first trip to Armathwaite Hall and indeed to the northern lakes so it was 'hit or miss' but it was a real hit! We were there for a very special occasion and everything about the hotel, the spa and the staff helped to make sure that it was. Just the right level of attentioon from the staff and the room was superb with stunning views. The ambience was great - make sure you take time to have a drink before dinner -and use the brasserie for a snack during the day. That the surrounding area is not crowded, unlike the more southerly lakes, was just the icing on the cake. Go there and enjoy!

Room Tip: In a real sense you get what you pay for but the lake views are superb and ever changing.

We have stayed a number of times and we are always impressed by the location, the standard of the hotel and staff who are invariably friendly and very helpful.
Expensive, but good value for money.

Room Tip: The rooms in the original area of the building are magnificent.

Very special event, our wedding anniversary.
We have 4 children so i DO NOT hate kids.
Our stay: Kids running round the restaurant shouting "Mam I want a blue smartie" at 9.30pm when some poor bloke was trying to propose to his girlfriend;
Kids dive bombing you in the spa pool at 8am in the morning (children not allowed in there at this time)
And the final insult!!!! - the clock-radio alarm going off at 5.30am
Management? not interested.
They really need to decide who their target market is? Family or romantic get away

We have stayed at Armathwaite many times as a couple but this was our first stay as a family. Our son is 10 months old and we had not stayed at a hotel since he was born. Armathwaite were very helpful - especially the staff in the Brasserie. We did not have Dinner during this stay but ate in the Brasserie. The staff offered to bring food for our son and could not have done more to put us at ease. The pool can be used by children at certain times and we made the most of it and also visited Trotters World of Animals, which was great fun. I had not realised what a family friendly hotel Armathwaite is - I would definitely recommend it.
We have stayed in alot of expensive hotels but it is always Armathwaite that we return to - the location, spa, accomodation and staff are all first rate!

We have just had the most wonderful stay, the children wanted to sleep in a castle and that is what it feels like. Trotters Animal Park is an excellent extension to the estate as are the pool facilities. The children were made to feel extremely welcome at dinner, providing half portions and an excellent service. We had a thoroughly enjoyable half term break.

Room Tip: Ring for best room but looks fairly well booked. I preferred being in the main house as it feels mo...

This break was fantastic - stayed at Armathwaite 5 years ago and thought it could not get better but it has. Unbelievable spa facility, unbelievable food, fantastic professional service - this is the kind of break you only dream of. Don't let the price put you off if you add the individual costs of all experiences together this turns out to be great value for money.

Room Tip: second floor over looking gardens / lake

We stayed three nights, and had the most amazing time. Our room had a beautiful veiw of the lake, which was stunning. Loved the flat screen in the bathroom...what a treat! I had three treatments in the Spa, all of which were wonderfully soothing. My husband went clay pigeon shooting and loved it. The quad bike safari is a must, I havent had so much fun for years! The food in the Lakeside restaurant is just delicious. The staff were very attentive and did all they could to make sure we had a good time
