“Be Lord of the Manor!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 June 2012

When I was a child I was lucky to have visited this magnificent hotel, but just for afternoon tea, delicious as it was. These days, I get to the UK less than I would like, so on this trip I wanted to sample the best of Britain, and the choice of Armathwaite Hall didn't disappoint. We were lucky to be blessed with sunny warm weather, can you believe, so the scenery of the garden, lake and hills was amazing. It's an ancient building so don't expect things modern, but, you will almost certainly feel like an ancient Lord of the Manor! Rooms great, bar great, .. Let's just say everything great! .. I live in Japan, so I'm pretty used to spas .. They're probably the biggest recreational pursuit in Japan, so they're pretty good at it... Having said that, I was extremely impressed with the new spa at this hotel. For geological reasons it can't have hot spring water, but in every other respect it's equal to anything Japan has to offer. When you're sitting in the outdoor Jacuzzi you're in heaven! We had breakfast and dinner in the beautiful Lake View restaurant and both were delicious, with expert service .... A memorable event for me .. Waking up in an ancient room to the sound of lambs bleating .. How much more peaceful can life get? I was expecting an enjoyable experience, but it was more ...

We booked this hotel as a last minute deal through secret escapes for a 1 night trip away. We have stayed at quite a few hotels over the years and this is without doubt in our top 3 if not the best. the staff were excellent, the food in the brasserie was superb, the hotel is absolutely fabulous in outstanding grounds with great views. Cannot praise this place enough and will definitely be back again!

We had a pricey room (£200 b&b) for a wedding and absolutely loved the hotel. It has got amazing views. The food is gorgeous. The breakfast was very good. Highly recommended.

Stayed here over the Jubilee bank holiday weekend and really enjoyed the break. The grounds and lake view are spectacular. We enjoyed the Spa Facilities and found every one of the staff friendly, courteous and attentive. Would recommend this to anyone wishing to have a relaxing break in one of the most beautiful parts of the country.

A beautiful hotel set in lovely grounds, we stayed for two nights to celebrate my partners birthday worth every penny, the welcome we received on arrival was excellent, we were shown all round by a nice young chap called Martin , we were treated like royalty. the food was excellent and the breakfasts cooked to order and piping hot.the swimming pool was superb, and we liked the heated sun loungers around the pool . We will be back again as soon as possible, another thing was the log fire in the hall which added to the comfort of the place not forgetting the glorious afternoon tea with a glass of champagne a nice finish please give this hotel a try you will not be disappointed

Room Tip: We had a nice room at the side of the building which was nice and quiet, next time I would like one...

Stayed one night at end of May 2012 with my wife having booked the one night spa package. Unfortunately my wife being 8 weeks pregnant could not have a massage (company policy) however this was not written anywhere in hotel/spa literature, if my wife had known prior to booking she could have chosen another spa treatment, but at such late notice nothing was available, I felt the overall package price should have been reduced for us as my wife missed out on a spa treatment. When checking out I was charged for my massage when it was part of the package, this was disappointing. During dinner had to wait over 15 mins for water/drinks. Wonky table at breakfast, and breakfast overall wasn't up to scratch. Yes this seems picky but for the price I paid I want the very best, I would have expected more attention to detail. The Armathathwaite is a nice hotel, the waiters were very helpful but really expected more. Shame.
