“Overpriced and poor service”
Reviewed 19 April 2014

Food acceptable. Room rather shabby. Breakfast exceptionally poor. We were ignored and got by with fruit, pastry (soggy) and cereal. I had to pursue them to get a cup of tea. I found the staff rather unfriendly. The treatments in the spa were good but the other facilities were not good. Staff did not show us around. It was crowded. The hot tub was inaccessible as a group of very noisy women sat in it virtually all day. Staff served these people with alcohol all day. I later calculated that they had drunk 5 bottles of wine whilst in that tub. Is that safe? There are lots more fantastic hotels with excellent spas. The only redeeming feature is the scenery which is amazing.

Room Tip: Try a different hotel.

My husband and I visited the Hall for a two night stay. The first night we had dinner in the fell view restaurant - ok but nothing special and definitely not worth the £50 per head price tag and didn't even begin to compare to places such as Miller Howe and Lindthwaite House. Our second night we tried the Bistro......all I can say is poor - I expected a lot more. The fish and chips would have been unsatisfactory if purchased from a chip shop. That said the spa was wonderful and the views amazing, but if you are expecting something special - don't.... You will be disappointed.

Myself and my boyfriend stayed here for one night in April. The welcome was lovely as was the complimentary sherry we received. The room was also lovely and the personal touch of the welcome letter along with a box if chocolates (as we were celebrating) was a great touch.
We spent time in the spa and the outdoor hot tub is lovely. We had champagne in the hot tub, which was brought to us by a member of staff.
We ate in the restaurant in the evening, the good was good but I wouldn't say outstanding. But I was very happy with how accommodating the hotel was with dietary requirements, as I can't eat wheat, they had gluten free alternatives, which is a relief when you're away.
However what did disappoint us greatly was the breakfast. First a waiter told us 'to just wait there' whilst he appeared to do nothing. So another waiter came over and showed us to a table. We then ordered our breakfast and it did seem most of the other people had already had or ordered their breakfast. We had to wait 50minutes for our breakfast and when it did eventually arrive, it was burned, it seemed that they had shoved it under a hot grill as the bacon was all black around the edges and the sausages were burned too. We didn't send it back as we were too hungry and had to go back to the room to pack and then to check out in time.
Overall it was a relaxing and enjoyable stay and probably would return, but would try the food in the brassiere next time.

On a arrival at the hotel from the time we left we were made to feel very special and very welcome. The sherry from reception set the standard for the time at Armathwaite Hall. We spent a very relaxing time in the spa area, the outdoor Jacuzzi almost being worth the price of the stay on its own. Our evening meal was in the bistro and was excellent along with the service. Our room had a huge bed and was everything we expected. As for breakfast, well, definitely one of my favourite of all time together with the surroundings and again the service. To sum up Armathwaite Hall somewhere you need to go to unwind and de-stress. Can`t wait to go back!!

Stayed for one night dbb. Had a hot stones massage by laura. It was fab.
Daisy in the brasserie was lovely so friendly and helpful. Meal was lovely and choices fab.
Breakfast was ok. Coffee pot needed a good clean. Poached eggs. ..ask for hard yoke. .. got one hard and one soft....50% there.
Friendly waiting staff throughout the hotel could teach the receptionist a thing or two. Enjoyed our stay.

Me, my partner and pouch stayed for 2 nights in March. The setting is beautiful with suburb views of the lake, the spa was lovely and the food was great. Really great steak in the brasserie.
Nice touches in the room for the dog such as treats.

The staff were very polite and attended to our needs. However on our first night a member of the bar staff offended me greatly, stating that the hall shouldn't put deals on Travel zoo as it encourages the wrong type of people to come and stay lowing the class and standards of the hall.
I was therefore made to feel like us lower class people who are actually well to do shouldn't be staying at the hall. The moral of the story is not to judge I feel this member of staff should be educated in the fact that all your customers have value no matter how they came about purchasing their stay.
I was also over charged £90 upon settling the tab. I contacted reception (Gemma) who was very good and made sure I received the refund without any quibbles.

Overall I would recommend staying in this establishment but avoid the rude comments.
