Celebrating a 'significant' birthday,f rom the moment we signed in as a family of eight, two of whom were young grandchildren, we could not have been made more welcome.
The service was exceptional in all areas. All the staff were friendly and accomodating and nothing was too much trouble.
The three rooms booked were all very different but delightful in all respects especially ours with the balcony overlooking the lake.
The setting, location, views and grounds are sensational-they literally take your breath away. The hotel itself is like a step back into history-so impressive-but with all the modern ammenities required for a wonderful stay.
The hotel and ammenities satisfied all our needs as a mixed group for the whole weekend from the pool areas and fabulous spa with outdoor jacuzzi, to tennis, playing croquet on the lawn, birds of prey display, walks to the lake and visits to the adjoining animal park.
The menus were of a very high quality and and service excellent, taking into account that we had young children in our party.
My husband and I will certainly be visiting again!

We were celebrating our Ruby Wedding and were hoping for excellent facilities and service, we were not disappointed in any way.The service from booking in to leaving was wonderful. We hope to return in the not too distant future.

Spent two nights at the hotel to mark my partner's 60th birthday.and we both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The evening meals were fabulous and were only eclipsed by the luxury of the spa. Definitely recommended.

Arrived Friday 03/04/, arrival friendly, shown to our room 618, basically in the attic with 4 flights of steps with a pram and a 21/2 yr old to consider even though i had spoken to reception prior to arrival to inform of my daughters stay, with it being an attic room it was very hot and stuffy and a bit dated, room size was good with double and single bed, bathroom was excellant very modern with LCD TV in the wall. I have no complaints with dinner or breakfast service, this was excellant and of a very high standard, staff also very friendly. Spa facilities and staff also excellant. As a family we never got any sleep on our first night as it was so hot even with a fan, on our second day and night our daughter fell asleep prior to dinner so we took her down in her push chair, staff where rushed as there was a wedding on, also during the day some parts of the hotel where closed off to us due to wedding guests. After dinner we finally got our daughter in bed only for her to be woken by fireworks, we complained to reception as we had not been prior warned the response was attrocious, she advised that she had been to our room 10mins ago to advise but our door was shut so she presumed we was asleep, which my daughter was prior to th fireworks, we also complained about the heat and she advised us to wedge our door open, how can you sleep when the stairs lead directly down to an exit which was open, someone could of either wondered into our room or our daughter could of wondered out surely she could of understood why we shut the door when trying to sleep, after the fireworks the wedding guests where coming out of the main building shouting, screaming and falling over drunk,,. I just found that after initial check in reception staff and attitude was disgusting, unhelpful and very unfriendly, considering the cost of the weekend.

We booked Armathwaite Hall for a 3 night stay our first wedding anniversary based on it's web-site which looked wonderful and the fact that it had a new Spa opening in the Spring. On arrival we received a very warm welcome and were given a choice of two rooms! We chose the top floor which had it's own balcony from where we could see the Lake. It was a very hot day and the staff even brought us an extra fan without us evening asking. We had also booked the celebration package and cold champagne and flowers were waiting in the room for us which was a lovely treat!
We had booked a couple of activities (Hawk Walk at Trotters World and Clay Pigeon Shooting) and these were fantastic - well organised, really good fun and I would definitely recommend them. The instructors were friendly and informative.
The staff at the hotel were great. The reception staff were always really friendly and very helpful. The cleaning staff were polite and courteous and kept the room sparkling. The restaurant staff were great, really hardworking (do they ever go home?) but always smiling, happy and attentive. The food was delicious and the 6 courses were just the right size so you didn't feel hungry or over stuffed! I loved the real leaf tea too!
The Spa - well what can I say - WOW!!!! The Spa was AMAZING! The minute we entered we were warmly greeted by staff, given towels, shown were the changing rooms were and really made to feel welcome. The pool was lovely with a waterfall, and the outdoor hot tub was great - sitting in the bubbles while watching rabbits and birds hopping about on the lawn just yards away! The hydro therapy pool was my favourite and the steam room and sauna were also top notch and very clean. We had booked a couple of Spa treatments (facial and massage) and the staff were lovely. Very professional, highly skilled (they know their stuff) but also friendly and welcoming. After the treatments we were taken to the 'Hush' room where you snuggle down in a bed for a bit of quiet time and it is just so tranquil!
All in all a wonderful romantic stay at this fantastic hotel. It isn't the cheapest by any means but for a special occasion it was worth it! Top marks Armathwaite - we will definitely be back!

Having just returned from a 2 night break, I am complelled to write a review; my first! We found the hotel staff friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble, I even got my own dish of natural yoghurt at breakfast. When we arrived we were upgraded to a wondeful room, with a great bathroom. - including TV.

We did one of the recommended walks before our spa treatment and found it took less time than aniticpated, but gave great views. The spa is something else, beautifully set out, clean lines and very very soothing. All the spa staff were very kind, and put us at our ease.

There was to be a wedding the afternoon of our departure, what an idyllic setting, I did wonder where the other guests went, whilst the main lounge was in use.

Could our stay have been improved? no. The only thing I would like to have had was more choice of bread at breakfast, the croissants were tiny and few. But that is only a little niggle, I feel thoroughly relaxed after our stay and would hurry back, when I have saved up!

The food was wonderful and full of flavour and the staff were friendly and couldnt do enough for you. Strongly recommend the afternoon tea and cakes.
The room had a massive bed and was tastefully decorated. The weather at the time of our stay was extremely warm and the room became quite stuffy but hotel was very quick to supply a big fan made the room comfortable.
The hall was full of beautiful paintings and furniture and no where was out of bounds. The patio faces the lake and part of the gardens and it was wonderful to sit out there after dinner with coffee.
The spa, which is new has the most amazing facilities. We did not use the gym but we did use the pool and other facilities to hand. The treatments we had were amazing but products you can buy seemed very pricey for the sizes.
Would strongly recommend this hotel, especially if you have something very special to celebrate.
