My wife and I have just returned from a 3 day break at The Pheasant. The hotel is in a very quiet location set back from the main A66, and is packed full of lake district character. The rooms are well laid out, very comfortable and spaceous. The bar is small, but has a great atmosphere, and the locals give visitors a very warm welcome. There's a choice of two lounges to use, with lovely furnishings and fires that make sure you're cosy throughout your stay.
We ate in the Bistro, which is well decorated. The food was excellent, even though the menu choices were a little restricted at this time of year. They also have a fine dining restaurant if you'd prefer it.
Breakfast was also good, with a nice range of cereals etc as well as an excellent "full English" to set you up for the day.
Our only negative comment was about the bed, which was too soft. I've a weak back that benefits from a matress that gives more support.
The staff are very welcoming, and go out of their way to help you enjoy your stay.
If you're in the Lake District it's an ideal place to stay or eat.More
