My husband and I went to The Pheasant Inn for a weekend stay over the Christmas holidays. We had a wonderful time, the staff were amazingly helpful but not too intrusive which is just what we wanted! The bar was beautiful with all its old features and characteristics. The bar maid was very helpful and was able to assist us when we needed it. We had food in the Bistro first night and then the Fell restaurant the second. Both had great food and we were very pleased with it. We are both surprise at anyone who did not have as greater time as we did. To them I would say you must give it another chance! We loved it!

Lodge rooms smelt damp and musty. Make sure you book an evening meal as they do not guarantee residents a table. Staff very attentive food excellent.Very cosy lounges with roaring log fires just what you need on a cold wet February day.

Overall a fantastic short stay. The hotel is full of old world charm and our superior room (Ennerdale) was absolutely lovely. We both thought the young staff were excellent both in attitude and knowledge. They even sell cigarettes behind the bar ( I know this will be of little interest to many but it is quite an unusual and welcome surprise to a pariah smoker !) . Breakfast was first class with fantastic scrambled eggs. The historic bar is fabulous and the small guest lounge to the left of the front bar very cosy and relaxing.

Our only slight disappointment was the creme brûlée we both had for our evening meal in the restaurant. Although tasty, the presentation was not up to the standard of the previous two courses which were delicious and very elegant.

Will certainly recommend to others and would love to come back when the weather is better and we could enjoy the gardens.

Thank you ever so much.

Not a staying guest. Just a lunchtime meal , but a truly delicious Barnsley chop with trimmings (like madhouse with puy lentils and deliciously freshly-chopped mint sauce - delicious!). Even the fish and chips were excellent - the lightest, crispest batter was memorable. A pint in the comfy snug bar - 3 local ales on tap - and seated in the (slightly more Spartanly-furnished) bistro for eating, served very pleasantly and attentively. Recommended!

Wonderful old style coaching inn. Rooms are very comfortable and clean. Legendary bar. Two great options for dinner a bistro and a formal restaurant both of which serve outstanding food. A breakfast upon which you can walk all day. Staff are all very friendly and helpful. Overall a great base with a welcome home atmosphere - especially after a long day on the hills.

I loved the cosy feel of this place. Lovely bar area and front room with plenty of character. Friendly attentive staff. Had a lovely fish cake starter, one of the best I have had. The braised beef pie special was a not as good as expected ( big on vegetables and mushrooms, short on meat) but still fairly tasty. Menu can be a bit pricey. Overall, I would rate this as "Good" and would come here again.

My wife and I got married on the 29th of December 2013 and we had our wedding reception at the Pheasant Inn for 19 guests. The level of service was excellent and this made our special day faultless. The reception was in the private dining room and we also had a lounge to ourselves too - making the whole experience intimate and very romantic! The food and wine was great and we couldn't have asked for more and would certainly recommend it to anyone thinking of doing the same. We now look forward to spending our future wedding anniversaries there too!
