Stayed for one night, looking forward to the lovely location. Room nice overlooking garden with small bathroom, husband said very good shower. Restaurant closed so went into the "Brasserie". Quite good food though uninspiring menu. Really awful bar harking back to days when people smoked and the walls were left black to cover the smoking stains. Uncomfortable chairs etc. Nice lounge. Staff very pleasant and efficient

Stayed here in June 2014, having previously only eatern here. Our room was "Derwentwater" - fairly small but with a good sized bathroom, the room overlooking the front of the hotel. It was very quiet. The wood-pannelled bar has great character and the lounge is very comfortable overlooking the lovely and peaceful garden. We ate in the bistro (which was the old restaurant before a new formal room was added). Quite an extensive menu, with reasonable charges. Service Ok. Did not appreciate the young undermanager referring to us a "you guys" (we're pretty old and like more formality!). Breakfast OK but not extensive choice on the buffet. Overall, a charming experience and recommended for staying in the north lakes.

A colleague had told me about The Pheasant before our holiday to the Lakes. I had forgotten, but we were coming down the A66 from Cockermouth and it was well sign posted. We dropped in and had the most sumptuous creme tea, with rum creme ! The staff were very pleasant so we came back for dinner on our final evening. It had gone from a very quiet place, well away from the main road, into gastronome central, so we didn't get to eat in the restaurant. But the bistro was just as good. I wasn't feeling so great, but we still enjoyed a 4 course meal for £70 which was excellent in every respect. I will come back again to stay, but understand the importance of booking and reserving, this place is really that good.

A good hotel in excellent location on the edge of Bassenthwaite Lake. The food was good and the bedroom very comfortable. The staff were very helpful and friendly. However we felt it was slightly overpriced.

If your looking for a characterful Lakeland experience then this is the place. Rooms are beautiful and traditional. Gardens are delightful. Food in the bistro was plentiful and tasteful. We were a party of 18 staying for an intimate wedding reception. Everything was perfect. Staff were very welcoming and accommodating especially Lewis, Miguel and a special mention for Alison. Can't say anymore, perfect. Will definitely be back.

Stayed here for 1 night whilst attending a wedding at Armathwaite Hall who wanted to charge an extortionate rate and no discount for wedding guests. So glad I booked here, beautiful location and a charming old Inn full of character. Breakfast second to none. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Room Tip: Stayed in a standard double and it was delightful, no need to pay for upgraded room.
