Bassenthwaite isn't one of the well-known or very popular Lakes, probably because it doesn't have the dramatic scenery or pretty views like the others. Also there aren't many places with good access to the Lakeside for walks. However there are lots of places around the Lake worth visiting - there's great walking starting from Dodd Wood (plus a chance to see Ospreys!), plus Mirehouse and St. Bega's Church. As this is a quieter part of the Lakes it is well worth seeking out, but just not for Bassenthwaite itself.
