“Great place to stay with warmest of welcomes”
Reviewed 30 August 2011

Simply a great place to stay. Our hearty welcome from Rowan with fresh coffee, tea and pieces of home made cake was just what we needed after our long journey. Our room had a fantastic view and was large, clean and a very comfortable bed.Local knowledge was very forthcoming about local walks to great places to eat.The breakfast was hearty and local. Would definitely stay again. ( all bad reviews are from previous owners)

Very friendly and welcoming from booking and throughout our stay.
Good local produce was used in the cooked breakfast which were well cooked and presented. Alternatives were always available.

The situation was great and good views. The hotel was very clean and and especially the breakfast was very tasty and all from local suppliers. Bus stop outside for bus to Keswick and Cockermouth and the Cumbria coast. Near to Skiddaw and also Dodd where ospreys live. Also very excitable squirrels and volunteers to tell you about the wild life. We thought the price was good £64.00 a night for couple and £38.00 for our friend. Mr and Mrs Atkin were friendly. Pub along road.

My husband and I stayed here 4 nights and enjoyed every minute of it. It was our first time to the Lake District but we did not want to get caught up in the crowds so we chose this lovely B&B. Our room was lovely, facing the hills and very conveniently located near hiking and dining as well as visiting Cockermouth.
Rowan and Judith were excellent hosts. Rowan was particularly helpful regarding choosing our day hikes and Judith cooks an excellent breakfast and makes a delightful jam teacake. We would definitely stay here again.

I cannot fault this place and the room had been decorated but I think it is overpriced as I said in my first review. Why do B and B's in the Lake District charge £80 per night when I stayed in the Hilton Warwick for £70 and Hilton East Midlands Deluxe room £110 for 2 nights?

I had a three night stay but my partner only had two as he was doing the three peak challenge on the middle night. Our room was clean, tidy and very comfortable with beautiful views. Breakfast was cooked to perfection with a wide range of foods to choose from. I can highly recommend the evening meal, especially the chilli con carne!!! We arrived as guest but left as friends. A big thank you to Rowan and Judith for making our stay so relaxed and pleasant.
