What a lovely hotel and wonderful owners. They are very friendly and the rooms are excellent. There is a very relaxing feel in the hotel and the food is wonderful. Location excellent next to Bassenthwaite Lake and great walks very close by.

Very happy that we could be your base in Bassenthwaite. We have so many close walks nearby that lead you away from the crowds. This is a perfect stopping point in the Lakes for the walker or the relaxer.

We stayed in this wonderful old hotel on a 2-night KGB deal. The staircase, panelling and banisters are all original and the views are lovely. Apparently it has a ghost - but we didnt see one. Our room looked out over the countyside and was perfectly adequate for the length of our stay. The bed was enormous and very comfortable but we both felt the en suite bathroom was cramped - you could hardly turn round in the shower it was such a tight squeeze. Our room did not have a bath but they have a room with a bath along the corridor which you can ask to use.
On arrival we were asked if we wanted fresh milk for the room - which we did - but unfortunately coffee had not been provided, only tea. Also - a welcome addition in the Lake District is their "dry room" where you can store wet clothing after a day in the inevitable rain.
The dining experience was lovely: you order your drink from the small bar and take it through to the beautful old lounge, where you are served petit fours while perusing the menu. Once your meal is ready you are invited through to the dining area - where service is prompt and efficient. If there were to be any criticism of this part of our stay it would have to be the portion sizes - a bit on the scrimping side. However our lamb was cooked to perfection and the complimentary bottle of wine very quaffable.
We would definitely go back.

Room Tip: Room 7 does not have a bath so make sure you ask about a bath when booking.

Happy that you had a comfortable time here. Sorry the weather didn't play along, but as you say, inevitable the lakes need to get filled.
By the time you return we will have completed the first half of our hotel's bathroom renovations and it shouldn't be a tight squeeze anymore. Looking forward to your return.

Splendid hotel, even more splendid owners and welcome. We stayed here for two nights DBB for my birthday. It is set among utterly green surroundings, in a peaceful and very rural hillside. It is a mainly traditional building with lots of wood incorporated into the exterior lakeland stone many gabled frontage. Whilst some rooms will need updating, the new management has only recently arrived and will get to those fairly soon. I am a fussy hotel guest, so what did we make of this? With the already mentioned comment I must say that the entire downstairs is full of character, reminding one of a country lodge with large and generous rooms for the public. There is a splendid and huge sitting room with many sofa's and armchairs, chess and a fireplace, newspapers and complimentary tea and coffe throughout the day and evening. What makes this hotel for me though is the owners; Kim, Sharon, Tina & Adam. They actually like their guests; spend time talking among them and will do any reasonable thing for you. We for example had to leave at 7.30 and they made sure we had a complete cooked breakfast, and hour before their kitchen opened... service. The food is largely home made and local, and the Cumberland breakfast sausage super - as are the scones. But why we enjoyed our stay is mostly this, the owners use natural charm and warmth to accomodate our needs, and I say natural rather than professional charm. They like their work and I like their hotel. Thank you Ravenstone Manor Hotel... we will miss you.

There was a really friendly welcome upon arrival and the hotel felt very homely. The decor, ambience and warmth of the hosts give it a lovely atmosphere. The views from the front of the hotel are superb and sitting in the comfy lounge or dining room gives you a panoramic view of the local area.
The selection of board games as well as the extensive games room is great for families of all ages. We had a lovely time playing games after dinner in the lounge.
There were lovely gardens at the front of the hotel and if the weather had been better it would have been great to sit out and admire the view.
It is conveniently located to get to see most of the area in a short break.

My wife and I both being vegetarians and myself a coeliac, we were overjoyed at the choice on the menu. We can safely say that this is the first hotel we have stayed in which has offered such an exciting menu. The room we stayed in however was not as good as we expected and could do with a bit of T L C especially in the bathroom, more attention could be given to housekeeping

The family who runs the Ravenstone are really friendly and care about the small details which is a very rare quality in hotels nowadays. Our room was lovely with great views, the food was also of a high standard.

Room Tip: We were in room 16 and there was a small issue with noise from the room above due to really creaking...
