My husband and I have just had a lovely two day stay at this hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful, the food excellent and room clean and comfortable, there was even a bottle of Radox to soak away those aches and pains after a long days walking!. Would definitely return.

We found this characterful hotel when we purchased a KGB offer in July '12 and looked forward to a second visit, just completed. This time we had room 21, on the top floor, with a far superior bathroom (heated floor) and everything else just as perfect as before. The food is quite amazing with such a personal service! I am not sure we want to try anywhere else in case we are not so pleased. All staff are so friendly - a lovely atmosphere.

This hotel was just what we hoped for and more. My wife and I booked a two night stay to celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary. It was the first time we had spent time like this away from our young children. The first thing we noticed were the stunning views directly opposite the hotel, they are truly special. Next, we were struck by the way the new owners had clearly maintained the historical feel to this Victorian hotel. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, the atmosphere was calm and relaxing, the food was exceptional and the owners made a genuine effort to be warm and friendly. We were very touched when they decorated our table, gave us a card and a complementary bottle of champagne to mark our anniversary. I must thank the owners for giving us a memorable stay and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a relaxing break. We hope to return in the future.

Room Tip: Room two has breathtaking views.

This hotel was recommended to us but we were disappointed with our stay there. The hotel reminded us of Aunty Wainwright's shop (Last of the Summer Wine), so full was it of old junk. Our rather small room was cold on arrival and we could barely see out of the dirty window at the lovely view. It could do with a good spring clean! The food was ok in parts but very average. We aren't fans of cooked breakfast so it would have been nice to have more selection at the cold table. Fortunately, the weather was good and the Lake District lived up to its deserved reputation.

Room Tip: Pay for a bigger room and beware of squeaky floorboards from the top floor!

We arrived just after the March blizzards hit the north. The bedroom and downstairs was a bit chilly at times but there are plans to put a decent fire in the lounge and the welcome was more than warming. At Ravenstone you feel like part of the family. The food was excellent throughout – breakfast (especially the poached haddock and scrambled egg) and dinner being of an extremely high standard. Cherin and Kim have a good knowledge of the area and can advise on rewarding walks. I would happily stay here again. Last, but not least, it is a beautiful building, like something out of an Agatha Christie novel. We would happily stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms 10 and 11 have excellent views across Bassenthwaite

We have in the past stopped to have a drink and sandwich here when out walking and always admired the hotel. We are actually keen caravanners and stay at the site by the lake in Keswick. This Easter it was our wedding anniversary and decided to treat ourselves to a special meal out at Charlotte's View Restaurant at Ravenstone Manor.

From our initial enquiry when I spoke to one of the owners, we were made very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. This place has so much character . The food was delicious and our friends and ourselves were delighted with the service.

I obviously can't comment on the accommodation but if the lovely lounge and the cosy bar are anything to go on I'd be more than prepared to take a chance. In fact we hope to stay in the not to distant future.. A huge thank you to everyone. Regards Ann Reid

Arrived in blizzard conditions and were surprised to find a lit barbecue outside in the snow. We soon discovered the whole area had been without power for most of the day so very cold on arrival. Our welcome however was anything but cold and we were soon relaxing in front of blazing log fire in the bar with pot of hot coffee. The owners, staff and other guests were so friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

It is great to hear that you enjoyed your weekend in spite of your difficult journey and the problems we had over the electricity supply. It is amazing what the old log fire can do when all modern conveniences fail! Kim and Cherin
