“A Great place to stay, excellant service”
Reviewed 23 August 2010

My family (my wife, 11 years twin boys and 5 years daughter and I) stayed at Ravenstone Hotel for 5 nights.

Andrew and Debra who run the hotel and their staff were very friendly and helpful and made us feel like at home.

Our rooms located at the upper level were quiet, nicely furnished, clean with good views to the lake and surrounding hills.

Breakfasts were excellent with good choice and great service.

The fireplace at the bar is a good place to chat with other guests and play with the family. There is also a games room for snooker, pool, table tennis and table football and we enjoyed it very much.

The hotel is situated in a peaceful surrounding looking over fantastic views of Bassenthwaite Lake and not far from Mirehouse House & Gardens which is nice to visit and good place for the kids to play.

The Hotel is 15 minutes away by car from the center of Keswick village (if you have kids do not miss the James Bond museum at Keswick) and getting there is easy.

We had a very pleasant stay and we hope to get back there in the future, thank you Andrew and Debra.

Since I have been dairy and gluten free, holidays have tended to be a voyage into ill health. But not this one. The food was fabulous AND the chef was able to cope easily with my health requirements and produced fantastic dairy and gluten free meals for myself and another intollerant guest night after night! My husband (who eats everything!) also loved every meal.
The hotel is beautiful (we stayed there 27 years ago on our honeymoon) and has spectacular views across the fells. The staff are extremely efficient and friendly and made our stay a very special one. We both feel well, rested and very grateful.
Thank you.

We stayed at The Ravenstone Hotel for 1 night booking through Laterooms.com.
On arrival we were given an upgrade at no extra cost to the Spa Room. The room itself was very spacious and well appointed including a four poster bed, the view from the room looked over Bassenthwaite Lake to the hills beyond.
The area around the hotel is very peaceful but with plenty to see.
The management and staff were friendly and obliging and made us welcome.
Meals were of an excellent standard.
We are planning our next break at the hotel this time for 2 or 3 nights.

The location of the hotel is great, fantastic views from the bedroom across fields to the lake. Hotel is on a main road about 4 mile outside Keswick but traffic minimal at night we were not disturbed. There are a number of walks that you can access from the hotel, so no need for the car keys once you are there.
Our room was very clean and a good size, it had all the items we needed, tea, coffee, hair-drier etc.
The hotel has a very friendly atmosphere and the owner and staff make you very welcome. The food and service was excellent, both breakfast and dinner, they do look after you!
We reccomend this hotel most highly

There are plenty of walks which start from the Hotel. You can walk down to the lake and St Begas church, along the paths into Dodd wood where you can see the ospreys and for the more adventurous Skiddaw can be climbed, all starting from the Hotel

We booked a one night stay with dinner, b&b through laterooms. The hotel was great and everyone we met was very friendly and helpful. We're a family of 4 vegetarians including my daughter who cannot eat cheese due to migraines and despite it being a last minute booking we were delighted to be presented with a full vegetarian menu with a choice of three meals. Fantastic ! Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Stayed at Ravenstone Hotel in Bassenthwaite for a long weekend in July 2010.

Hotel is mile or so from the village and situated on the main road to / from Keswick so easy to find. The "view of the lake" is a bit of poetic licence though.

Refreshingly the hotel is family run and is distinctive with a touch of class. The staff are friendly and local, and the room we booked, with 4 poster bed, was spacious and clean. Bathroom was fine with a shower that allowed for proper regulation of the temperature without the need to phone Stephen Hawking.

It wasn't cheap, but evening meal was included (I would recommend this as other eateries are driving distance). Meals were excellent with good choice and quality food and service. There is a bar and a lounge, along with a games room for snooker, pool, table tennis and table football - all free of charge. And an ample supply of chalk for the cues, which is something other places fall down on.

Breakfast was top class, full English and much of it locally sourced.

The only disappointment was the weather, with almost non-stop rain. If you do need to take refuge and fancy a reasonably priced pint, try the Pheasant Inn, with Ferraris parked outside and the Hooray Henrys inside discussing England's latest batting collapse and how to fix the economy. Most welcoming though - and free crisps!

Worth visiting Cockermouth (Wordsworth's house), Honister Slate Mine and a walk around the various lakes is a must of course. The North lakes seem a lot quiter than the South lakes - long may it continue.
