“Two night stay 6th & 7th Jan 12”
Reviewed 9 January 2012

My fiancee booked the break as a Christmas surprise and it was a very good choice.
On arrival we were put at ease straight away and given a little tour of the lodge with a potted history which was interesting.
Our room was very nice and clean. Admittedly the bathroom was a bit outdated but I fully understand that a small business can't do it all at once and it was clean.
Lovely view to wake up to every morning.
Bar was excellent, very cosy with a good choice of drinks (and board games!). We didn't try the restaurant but the menu looked good. Breakfast was delicious and Mike was very accommodating - basically, if they have it, it's on the menu.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a quiet break in nice surroundings.
Note to Mike - thanks for being a very genial host, we felt very much at home. Sorry didn't tell you our names (Philip and Meg), the young couple.

Room Tip: Recommend choosing a 'superior' room, they are slightly bigger!

nice friendly clean hotel with no pretentions. greeted by the great manager michael who gave us a short tour of the hotel with a little of its history. nice cosy and spotless bedroom with very comfortable bed. a great power shower in the bathroom. lovely spacious conservatory to sit in after dinner.Dining room lovely with a open log fire, nice choices on the menu for the evening meal would recommend everything. huge well cooked breakfast served with a smile. must state that a certain member of staff (young Anthony) deserves a raise in pay, at least for all the hard work he put in to make our stay pleasant he is a credit to the hotel and also the chef for the delicious meals provided overall a very pleasant stay and would recommend this hotel to everyone.

Arrived to be greeted by manager who then along with the head chef disappeared to leave the young scoucer Ian in charge... He did brilliant thrown in the deep end served dinner well and cooked an early breakfast so we could get on the road early!! Although unorthodox he and the agency chef did brilliant.
Nice clean rooms, beautiful views and a four poster bed!!
Overall experience was very average...

I must admit that I think the Faulty Towers analogy is a little unfair but I won't get over sensitive! It seems your overall experience was quite positive and I'm pleased about that. We did have a few problems over that particular weekend as my manager (Lee) & chef (Chris) who between them ran the hotel for me decided to walk out mid-afternoon on Friday 30 December; it seems they had a better job offer somewhere! That left us a little thin on the ground for the weekend and I of course apologise if this detracted from you stay; at the time everyone seemed very understanding. We are now fully back on course and it's business as usual to the usual high standard. Thank you for taking to trouble to write a review.

We booked on the basis of previous on-line reviews and wanted a place that was reasonably near Keswick and that didn't insist on half board. This hotel seemed to tick all the boxes and really lived up to it's good reviews. Our room was great; a good size, clean and warm and the bathroom was spotless. The room was also quiet with good views on two aspects. The hotel has a nice informal atmosphere.

We'll be back next year just as long as it isn't fully booked!

My daughter made prior booking of Ravenstone Lodge online, after reading through the positive review in the TripAdvisor; so we were very sure of the place was just nice for the three of us for an over-night stay in The Lake District; last visited some 25 years ago.
After freshened-up myself, I walked downstairs & stopped halfway the stairwell to admire the photo collection of the Lake District by Mike, the owner himself, before proceeding to the lobby to enjoy the warm of realfire fireplace and the photo album on the coffee table.

The bedroom was cosy enough for the three of us, with extra bed requested on the spot with a nominal charge (of-course). Winter night was cold & snowy, but warm inside. We fell asleep after the long drive & was looking forward for the country walk in the morning.

Next morning, had our delicious English breakfast in the cosy dining & it was splendid, we took our sweet time, taking photos of the room and the entire lodge. Outside, it was simply stunning with nicely manicured lawn and gardens. The roses, bird-feed, two horses, sheep at a near distance. The garden overlooking the snow-capped hills of the Lake District.
Ravenstone Lodge: A-Must-Stay-Lodge in the Lake District. Simply Warm, cozy, value for money & beautiful setting. Definitely we are not looking for other place in my next trip and that's for sure!

Room Tip: Room #7 was good & cozy..

The service from when I first arrived was very good as was the food.

The room however was a mixed bag, the bed was comfortable and the room warm however the bathroom needs renovating, the ceiling in the shower was covered in mould as was the sealant around the shower. This place could be really nice if a little money is spent on keeping it up to date.

You are quite right, after a very busy season we were too slow in getting round to the periodic deep-clean of this room. The shower has now been thoroughly cleaned and will be kept that way in future! This is one of the rooms scheduled for refurbishment this winter. Many thanks for taking the time to write your review.
