Vesa, Vesa, Vesa...you met me off the bus from Dubrovnik (via the Orebic ferry) with a smile as broad as a bean. You had even taken the time to prepare a welcome card with my name on it, so, as I barged a dawdling Australian out of the way, it was a welcome and unexpected surprise and showed how much you care about your guests.
Three minutes later, just a short walk from the bus station and ferry ports, we were sharing rakija in one of your spotless, well-furnished rooms. Despite being located in the centre of the old town, the room was very quiet and included a quiet, efficient air-conditioning unit. After sharing a round of homemade rakija, Vesa took the time to show us the main sights and points of interest on a free map that she provided. This was extremely useful, particularly when in our post-rakija glow we both realised that the map was upside down. We laughed and felt a comforting warmth akin to plunging ones face into a batch of freshly photocopied paper. Hvala Vesa.
