Hawaii Island Retreat is perfect for those seeking an intimate respite to reflect, rejuvenate, and perhaps spiritual healing among organic gardens, beautiful grounds with a reflection pool, and spectacular cliffside views of the ocean.
The architecture of this grand hotel is fashioned after European Villas from the late 19th Century. The lobby, dining area and staircases are open spaces to the beautiful trade winds and landscape of the islands.
Delicious Organic breakfast included and highly recommend making reservations for dinner - the chef is superb.
Schedule a healing massage. Take the tour with Jeanne as to the history of the island and the estate. You can also help with the feeding and milking of the goats from which the cheese, yogurt, and ice cream are made.
Near Havi and far away from the 'touristy' chain hotels near the airport.
I went on several day excursions - horseback riding, helicopter ride, sailing, and snorkeling.
I was graciously and warmly greeted by Jeanne and the excellent staff. A special treat is the wagging tail of sweet Eylean - big hugs to everyone.

Room tip: All rooms have unique qualities. I stayed on 2nd floor facing the ocean with private patio - believe all rooms have private patios.

Breakfast at the retreat is an embarrassment of riches - fresh tropical fruits, goats milk yogurt, house made granola and an assortment of savory items using ingredients gathered from the garden on property, including the fresh eggs that are produced daily by the retreat's happy Ancona chickens (who will rush out to greet you if you take the retreat's suggested walk past their coop to the property's historic sites).

And, if you're very lucky, Rebecca may even whip together some of her signature vegan chèvre, house made almond milk or garden tomato jam to go with the corn meal biscuits she's baked that morning.

Or she may even let you taste the chocolate syrup that she made from the cacao beans that are also grown on property.

True land-to-table cuisine in a tranquil setting with an expert chef.

This is a C+ property that charges B prices. We stayed in a yurt, but would have been more comfortable spending the night in our car. Room was sweltering, crawling with various insects, and had nothing but cold water. Noise from nearby yurts made it impossible to sleep or relax as we could hear every word our neighbors said as if they were standing right beside us.

There was never anyone in the so-called "restaurant" and to the extent there is a "fitness center", it is one in name only. You'd do better to pack your own set of weights and work out outdoors.

Mahalo for your feedback. We're very sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your stay with us.

The Yurts are canvas sided structures and, during the day, they can get warm. We refer to staying in one as 'Glamping'. Fortunately, in the evening, they do cool off and are quite comfortable. Each yurt has a separate enclosure with a toilet and sink. The has sink has cold water.

Beautiful and private showers are just a few steps away and, in them, there is plenty of hot water.

Our exercise room includes free weights, Pilates, Elliptical and Bow Flex equipment as well as yoga mats. It's a wonderful room located next to the infinity pool. It has glass doors on two sides providing views of the garden and pool.

We don't have a restaurant. What we do have is an open air dining room where we serve delicious and healthful meals to our guests. And, since we grow or raise much of our own food, it's farm-to-table fresh. For those who choose not to eat with us, there are numerous cafes and restaurants within a 5 to 10 minute drive.

Should you decide to visit us again, we encourage you to stay in a luxury suite in the lodge. The cost is a bit more but, for the kind of amenities you're seeking, we believe it would be a much better choice.

Again, mahalo sharing your experience.

What a beautiful place! Set in its own grounds, this is a rather grand hotel aimed at those who want complete tranquillity. We stayed in one of the yurts which are arguably not very special, but this didn't matter for a couple of nights. Hotel pool is very good (and was empty when we stayed). Hotel was not doing meals when we visited (which was a disappointment), but we found a good restaurant in Hawi - an interesting town to wander round.

Many people who see our lodge for the first time ask if it was originally built as a luxury home in a bygone era. When you refer to it as "a rather grand hotel", that rings true. It does have a grand design!

We attended a wedding at this facility and the service and the entire place was REALLY REALLY nice. I would highly recommend this facility. the location was absolutely beautiful. The food was exceptional for the "Meet and Greet" (night before the wedding) and also the buffet after the wedding was great.
