As previous travellers reported, great welcome, great breakfast, great view etc. Easy access to the beach and Tolo tavernas. Travelled with an 80+ year old grandmother and also a 4 year old boy who loved it as much as everyone else. Also on the last night one of us left their wallet (a lot of cash + credit cards) in a bar in Tolo. We found this out the next day when we had checked out and were about 50 km away. One phone call to Gunda and she located the bar and the wallet within 20 minutes. Hats off to Gunda and the people of Tolo!

We really enjoyed our two weeks here. From the moment you arrive and are offered some of the renowned orange cake you are made to feel very welcome. We were given a complementary breakfast and evening drinks on our first day but made our own breakfast and bought beer and wine from the supermarket after that. The year we went the pound did not buy many euros and we needed to make our money stretch as far as possible. There are two supermarkets nearby and they both sell fresh local fruit and vegetables as well as all the other basic necessities. I can thoroughly recommend the cheap and very cheerful barrel wine at 2 euros 40 for 1 and a half litres. It comes in large plastic bottles but don't let that put you off. It is very drinkable!

All the staff were so friendly without being invasive. Gunda, in particular was a fountain of local knowledge. She and Voula will give you all the recommendations you will need for places to eat, things to do and the best ways to get there. The friendliness of all the staff is what makes the atmosphere so special here. This is not true of Tolo as a whole, we found. We tried to speak as much Greek as we could but we felt, aside from some lovely exceptions (Maria's restaurant, George the taxi driver) we felt Tolo has suffered a little as a result of over development. In the shops and on the streets people were quite aloof and almost a little resentful of us. Mind you, it was really hot (in the 40's) for a number of days! I think if you are seeking unspoiled Greece then you need to visit elsewhere. Having said that, Tolo is a great base for visits to the ancient sites and to the far prettier Nafplio and there is something quite special about being able to hurl yourself into warm, turquoise waters within 5 minute of leaving your room.

There are 28 separate apartments in the complex but the architecture and beautiful planting make each apartment feel quite secluded. The pound was quite weak against the euro when we stayed so we needed to eat in for a number of nights but we were able to cook some tasty meals using the little cooker in our room.

The standout feature of the apartments is the wonderful root top terrace with its breathtaking views. You can take your own food up there and, as long as you don't sit in the bar area, you can also take up your own drinks up in the evening. Gunda always came and had a chat with us and we were never made to feel unwelcome. The pool is quite small but a welcome retreat from some of the heat of the day.

The apartments are only a short walk to the beach, which is a little grubby and really crowded but it is very safe for small children. We took a taxi (7 euros each way) to Kastraki beach which is stony but much prettier, quieter and better for snorkeling. There is a lovely bar up a set of white steps at one end of the beach, which is pricey but offers more stunning views. We really liked the bartender who showed us to the areas with the most attractive views and ordered us a taxi when our usual one failed to turn up. You never felt rushed or pressured. It is a delightful place to chill out, literally! There is also a Taverna serving delicious food, some of the best we tasted, but again, as the only English family we felt that the staff were a bit frosty and unwelcoming compared to the service the mainly Greek clientele were receiving.

Just round the corner from Krastraki beach is Placa beach. A German couple we became friendly with said that this beach was also less crowded and more pleasant than Tolo. If you want to hire pedalos or canoes or ping about behind motoboats on rings or bananas then Tolo is your beach. There is also an area full of floating inflatables which is 8 euros for the day and will keep little ones and not so little ones entertained for hours.

I would say that the Heliotopos Apartments went a long way to making our holiday so relaxing and enjoyable. Do visit Nafplio town and castle, Mycenae and Epidavros. They are all unforgettable but go early. We took a taxi (80 euros!) to Mycenae so that we were there at 8.00. People arriving later found the heat uncomfortable as there is no shade. I would advise the same thing for Nafplio castle, which is a thousand step walk and is no fun in the heat. You can drive up to this as well. The views in all these places are awe inspiring. I don't think we will miss Tolo as much as we will miss the Heliotopos Apartments.

We just spent a week in the Heliotopos Apartments and really can recommend them to anyone planning a trip to this area of Greece.
We had a great view of the beach from our balcony and as the brochure stated it is only a short walk. There were plenty of places to eat in Tolo but the breakfast in the Heliotopos Apartments was the best value. The recommended restuarants from Gunda and Voula were just great for the night meal. It just seems right to eat a metre from the ocean in Greece!
The apartments were perfect for a couple or family and the service from Gunda and Voula first class. We have no hesitation in telling anyone who is planning a trip to the Tolo area to have a stay at the Heliotopos. Great place to stay.
The rooftop pool and bar were also welcome after a walk along the coast and through the village of Tolo.

The woman managing this facility is superb and was the highlight of our stay. Great communications in the reservation process and went out of her way to make us feel welcome. She was well-versed in history and made great restaurant and tour suggestions. Upon our arrival, we were happy to learn that we had been upgraded to a larger room. That said, we were glad this was a one night stay.

Our room was spartan with an incredibly uncomfortable bed. No mattress pad and non-fitted sheets that immediately fell out of place. Like many Greek rooms, there were no box springs. My wife and I repeatedly rolled into each other in the drooping middle of the bed. Twin beds doubled for couches in the living room with a small tube television being virtually invisible 20 feet away.

The pool is small but well maintained. The same may be said for the grounds, lobby and other areas.

Based upon the rate, I would heartily endorse this facility to any visitor if something could be done to improve the beds !

We found this apartment after seeing 5 or 6 other apartments in Tolo, is this was by far the best. The rooms are nothing special, but clean and cosy. There is free wifi internet, rooftop pool and bar, but the best in this hotel is the staff. Very-very friendly, very kind, excellent people, they want you to feel great and they do a great job in it.

Absolutely recommended!

We had a lovely clean apartment, double room for us and a sleeping area in the kitchen/diner for our child. The pool area on the roof is really pleasant with great views. Gunda the manager was brilliant with our child and really made us feel welcome.

Location is great, just a short walk down the hill to the town (despite appearances, when you are driving to the apartment it seems miles away). Plenty of parking.

For the money, these rooms are teriffic value.

Hope to come back here some day.

Booked this following previous good reveiws and was well rewarded. The apartment is very solid with lots of storage space, a huge bathroom / shower room, and is nice and cool with good air con. The management and staff are all very efficient and welcoming (probably the best we have come across when it comes to holiday apartments). When you first arrive you do worry about the distance to the beach / town as it appears you are well out of the centre, but the little path down to the town and beach takes only 2/3 minutes even with my two kids (3 and 6 years old) and is not even that steep for the return journey. The plus side of the walk is that the apartments have a fantastic setting with great views over Tolo bay and are much quieter than almost all the hotels in Tolo which tend to be along the busy and noisy main road. We will definitely stay here again when we return to Tolo.
