“Geat Hotel”
Reviewed 6 April 2014 via mobile

I didn't stay here because I stayed with family that live there, but enjoyed the hotel bar with my finacee. The staff were very friendly and the view on the beach was very nice. It's right in the middle of the main strip of everything so it's in a perfect location. Great menu options and good drinks! Definitely worth checking out.

First of all, I'd like to salute the very, very helpful, professional and friendly staff of this hotel. This year was the third time we stayed here, and the young lady who attended us spoke a very fluent English. Not only was the breakfast "well provided" again, but since there weren't any large groups staying (which is what this hotel mainly lives off), the waiter made us some fresh orange juice, and behaved like we were his personal guests. We couldn't judge any other meals since there weren't any (due to the time of year, and those meals then being cooked only for groups), but we had some very good ones in another hotel, a bit further. When schools are staying there, they can be noisy, but there you need some luck, and we weren't overly bothered either time. Again, we had rooms that looked out over the bay, with its magnificent sunrise. Being lodged "feet in the sea" (if it weren't for being on the first floor) is quite a nice experience too. The trip (by car) from the main street down to the parking of the hotel has always been an adventure, and will always be, but once you're accustomed to driving in Greece, this maneuver is a cinch. And there's always someone there to help you out. The village itself is a pitiful example of the effects of mass tourism on otherwise nice spots: hotels, hotels and hotels, and restaurants, and cafés... very little, if anything, is left of the original fishermen's village, save the fishermen themselves maintaining their boats. From Tolon you can visit very easily Ancient Corinth, Mykines, Tiryns, Epidavros, even Monemvasia and Gytheio, and, of course, Nafplio, modern Greece's first capital.

Room Tip: Most rooms look out on the bay, but you can always ask to be sure, especially in times when large gr...

All the staff at the Aris are so friendly and helpful that they make the whole stay a real pleasure. Beds clean and comfy, views beautiful, situation perfect, meals and breakfast excellent. Only things to let the hotel down are the very out of date bathrooms, showers, toilets, which are greatly in need of attention to fittings, shower cubicles, etc, though they are cleaned thoroughly every day. Full marks to Iannis, Kostas, Stematis, etc for their determination to please.

Great family-run hotel right on the beach. Could find no fault with the excellent service provided by Kostas and Yannis and their staff. Never wanted to leave.

The Aris Hotel is a family run business and you're made to feel welcome from the moment you arrive. When you get down to reception, the view you are met with is absolutely amazing! The hotel has a great location, situated right on the beach and the sea is clear and warm. The food is good, and prices are very reasonable. This is definitely somewhere you can come and relax, and if you like to explore, there are other places you can visit, and things to do during the day. The hotel rooms are rather basic, but have always been clean whenever we've stayed. There is also enough to do in the evening to keep you occupied, as there are lots of other good places to eat (a visit to Taverna Bob's just down the beach to sample the homemade pizza is a must!), and if you want to go out for a few drinks, there are some bars that stay open until late. So...if you're looking for somewhere to relax, have a good time and feel totally at home, I would definitely recommend it!

Fooled by the pictures on this site, we booked a room on the 3rd floor of the hotel. Immediately we found problems such as a non-working TV and a left over sock in a "supposively" cleaned room. The room smelled on a weird smell that we fixed only by leaving the windows open all night.

Although advertised as having parking, we found out rather soon that the hotel only has 5-6 parking spots for its many many rooms, and that the management seems to use up about 2-3 parking spots themselves. Thus, 2 spots for 25-35 or so rooms. I would suggest a moped.

The hotel does have about 10 beach chairs and 2-3 ombrellas, although most of the beach chairs are torn. We brought our own, luckily.

In an attempt to eat at the "restaurant" we found out that the chef leaves early (about 3 pm), so as we were trying to find parking at the port we were forced to send half of our group to the restaurant in order to order ahead. Although the food was great (no really, it was really really good!), we wish we could of enjoyed it at a slower pace, without being rushed.

Other hotels exist in the area for the same money or less, with much better accomodations.

We stayed at the Hotel Aris booked through an agent in Aug 2008. It was very good value and included transfers and flights. Tolo is a fairly quiet resort with enough going on, a nice beach and a variety of good value tavernas over looking the coast. It is a great place to explore the Peloponese, not enough to do there all week without some days out though.

The hotel was lovely, the restaurant was almost directly on the beach (lovely to sit with a drink or eat breakfast) overlooking the sea. The beach and sea were lovely to sit on and walk along outside the hotel. Some hotels a bit further up the beach on either side were busier and some did not back straight onto the beach like Hotel Aris.

We were lucky to get a room with a balcony overlooking the sea (requested on booking if possible). The room was basic (as they tend to be in Greece) and the bathroom was small with a shower. You had to hold the shower head to use it. The room was cleaned really well and regularly. Towels were basic but replaced very regularly. The room had air conditioning controlled from the room. It is not luxurious, but you can't expect that for a hotel of the rating and price.

The cleaning, bar and waiting staff were very friendly and would talk about the local area. The reception staff were also helpful.

Breakfast was a choice of fruit (tinned and fresh), rolls, cakes, tea, coffee, juice, cereal, Greek yoghurt and honey. As good as any hotel in Greece (they don't tend to attach the same importance to breakfast as Brits!) It was lovely to eat it on the seafront. We went for b&b to eat out. We especially liked the French restaurant (Chez ...) in town for a really nice (& bit more pricey) special meal. There were also lots of lovely tavernas in Tolo.

We took day trips to Olympia (a long way), Cornithian Canal, Athens, Naphlion ... through agent on welcome meeting. Don't try to do too much like we did. Athens and Olympia were a long way, but worth it if you are going to explore ancient sites. Don't miss an evening trip on a boat from Tolon to Naphlio (sunset, beautiful costal ride and evening in Venetian town - where all young, beautiful, wealthy Greeks hang out). We had our meal there and a few drinks and stroll around. - Ask locals at Tolo where to eat in Naphlio. We like it so much we got on a local bus the next day and went back to explore some more. Ask the bar man / receptionist about buses etc.

  • Liked — Beach side location and fairly central for exploring historical sites
  • Disliked — Rooms were basic - especially ensuite bathrooms (I don't know what non sea view rooms were like).
