Mundo Milo Eco Lodge

Mundo Milo Ecolodge is owned and managed by a wonderful Dutch couple: gracious, friendly, and concerned for the enjoyment of guests. There are numerous activities in the region, as indicated on their website, though it helps to have a car (especially a high-clearance vehicle like a small SUV). The food is outstanding--wonderfully flavorful, well-plated and well-served. We stayed in the Persian unit, which was charming and very comfortable. Several beaches are close by. These beaches can have strong undertows, so be careful. However, the "plus" of such beaches is that they are not heavily visited, so these are stunningly beautiful beaches to walk on and explore. They are definitely "the road less traveled."

Room Tip: Several cabins have air conditioning, although one does not, so consider whether this is important.

No doubts about it, this is a great place to spend a couple of nights/days if you're looking for a relaxing vacation.
Lieke and Michiel (and the rest of the staff) made sure we had a pleasant stay with courteous and friendly service.
Beware this is an Eco Lodge, so it's surrounded by nature, and most likely you'll get to see insects here and there every now and then. We got the visit of 3 scorpions in our room during our stay, as well as 1 or 2 spiders and some ants. Just a matter of kicking them out with harmless consequences.
Now, to get there we had to take a 1.5 mile non-paved road that wasn't that bad. Before that is all paved road.
Lodge's location is about 1/4 mile from the beach, in a small hill... so you can get to the beach within a 5-minutes walk... Just 2 short trails away (one of them is a hill).

After arriving at my reserved cabin in Playa Callejones and finding that my cabin was rented out with no additional availability, I was forced to seek accommodations elsewhere. What could have been a bad situation was quickly reversed when we stumbled upon Mundos Milos just south of where we originally planned to stay. Lieke & Michael were sitting on the steps around 9:30 pm (during the slow season) & we asked if they had any rooms available. It was our fortune that they did have a cabin and though it was more than I was looking to spend (because I tend to travel on the extreme cheap), it was worth every penny. The Moroccan themed cabin was equipped with AC, and the room was spacious & uniquely decorated, with much attention paid to details. Our morning included a fabulous breakfast with coffee, juice, and homemade yogurt with local honey over fruit, accompanied by eggs and homemade bread. Pure Heaven! All this coupled with Lieke & Michael's friendliness & willingness to share their story on how they came to build in this area made us feel very at home. Though we only had one night to stay, a longer visit would have been worth it. Definitely worth a return visit.

Room Tip: Themes are African, Moroccan, and Mexican. The whole location is quiet, so sleeping should be peace...

My husband and I stayed at Mundo Milo for 7 nights on our honeymoon. We had booked the lodge based on its fantastic reviews, and we were not disappointed! Below is our quick synopsis of the lodge and its surroundings:

-We loved that the lodge was small enough to feel secluded and private yet the owners, Lieke and Michiel, and their staff are very accommodating for all of your questions or needs. They helped us book our rental car before we arrived and they also helped to book most of our activities that we did during the week. That was very much appreciated!!

-Mundo Milo is centrally located to so many cool beaches and activities that we were able to drive to during the week of our honeymoon. Playa Junquilall is a short walking distance from the lodge and Playas Blanca and Negra are a longer beach walk or short drive away. Within an hour's drive North is Tamarindo, the biggest town in the area. We also drove south about an hour and hit up 3 more beaches! You won't run out of places to go or things to do in the area in a week's time!

-We only ate at the lodge one night and got desserts on another night. Both the entrees and desserts were top of the line!

-We loved having the pool to come back to after hot days out in the sun. Definitely an added bonus!

-We stayed in the Persian cabina and it was nice. Nothing frilly- but nice enough to meet all basic needs! Very glad we opted for a room with an A/C as we came during one of the hottest/driest times of the year.

-I would mention that if you are freaked out about insects, you may want to opt in to more of a resort-type of place. We had lots of ant friends every night and also saw a gecko a couple of nights in our room. They did not ruin our stay by any means, but I know some people may have been freaked out if they had to deal with that, so just thought I'd give a head's up :)

Overall we absolutely loved our stay and honeymoon at Mundo Milo. All of the staff were great, it was centrally located to so many awesome activities and we were able to relax at night in a cool, clean room.

Room Tip: Would suggest a cabina with A/C during dry season

We loved our stay at Mundo Milo and definitively felt like coming to visit friends.

First, we were offered some homemade limonade and he had some nice chat. No emergency to go directly to our bedroom, we 1st enjoyed the bar atmosphere and our hosts. My boyfriend had been sick during all our way from Tortuguero and Lieke gave him advices to feel better (especially to drink some agua di pipa!).
Our room was very large and nice (we were in the Persian cabin) with some air conditioning. Bathroom and shower were great but really much like a a sauna!

Thanks to our host, we have been with the Turtle protection association of Playa Junquilal to release turtles at sunset: what a magic moment!!!! To hold a baby turtle and see it going to the sea was something unique :-)
They also advised us to do a tour where you can swim with Turtles, see mantas flying, and Dolphins playing with the boat. As well, a fantastic recommendation!!!
We had also some diner at their place which was good, probably a bit expensive, but I could get some gluten free pasta :-) After all the rice, it was so good!

As a summary we loved the place and the hosts, and if there is one place we would go back in Costa Rica, it would be Mundo Milo!

Room Tip: the Persian cabin was good, we did not see the other cabins.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at the Mundo Milo Eco Lodge and it was the best vacation! We too booked here after reading soooo many great reviews...and we were NOT disappointed.
On arrival, we were greeted by Michiel, our host...he had water and cold cerveza...perfect!
We stayed in the Persian Cabina. It was beautiful. There is a little sitting area outside, perfect for reading, relaxing... The room itself was cool and peaceful, and beautifully decorated. LOVE the bathroom...Nice work Michiel. Nice to have a little fridge AND coffee maker too, used them both.
The main Dining-Lounging-Pool area is lovely too. We enjoyed sending time in and by the pool.
The food was amazing. Fresh, local and beautifully presented. Lieke, our lovely hostess, is an incredible cook. Breakfast consists of fresh fruit, fresh yogurt, local honey, amazing coffee, juice, AND a choice of three different breakfast plates including fresh warm bread! Great way to start the day!
I had several items from the lunch menu, all were great, but loved the Chicken Salad best!
Dinner always included a couple of "specials" and they were special...Fresh fish with tasty sauces, Pasta dishes...the Lasagna, a must try! The Fresh Tuna Steak with Mango Salsa, beautifully presented, perfectly cooked...It was an amazing meal! The atmosphere, music, warm breezes, lovely waitresses, attentive host...causal elegance. Perfect! The fact that the dining room is often full of locals is testament to the quality of the food, the company and atmosphere.
We also loved the little Gazpacho appetizers included with your dinner. And don't forget dessert...Lieke will not disappoint...I wasn't!
I can't say enough about this spot...we booked 4 nights, but fortunately were able to stay 6...
Lieke and Michiel have created the perfect little getaway...just a shot walk to the beach...can't wait to go back.
