“Paradise on the Beach”
Reviewed 4 April 2016 for a stay in March 2016

This is a hidden gem! It has amazing views right from the patio doors! Gorgeous beach with very minimal people ever in sight; a perfect place to relax and enjoy the best Costa Rica has to offer! We loved every minute of our stay and even stayed an extra night! Gary was very informative and helpful; if we needed anything we just asked and he delivered. We will be back! Pura Vida!

“As close to Paradise”
Reviewed 9 March 2016 for a stay in March 2016

I'm so glad I found Gary's listing. After spending three days in Montezuma snorkeling and zip lining and driving those awful roads, we wanted to close out our little vacation with peace, quiet, and solitude. Peace, quiet, and solitude is exactly what we got! Gary greeted us with a friendly smile and pleasant conversation upon our arrival. He led us to our little apartment and thoroughly explained the workings of each fixture as well as suggesting wonderful restaurants to visit, all just a short distance away. He answered all of our questions, ranging from life in Costa Rica to his favorite coffees, and left us to our own devices, but was readily available if needed. The space was neat, clean, and tidy, and every amenity worked properly. The beach is incredible! Just steps away, smooth (but very hot) fine black sand, no rocks, not biting creatures, and a nice easy gradual slope into the warm waters. Magnificent sunsets every night, friendly people everywhere we visited, and $2 beers at the bar just up the beach! I only wish we had planned an additional three days to enjoy it more. We even got to witness the sea turtle conservatory release hatchlings just before sunset on out last day. If you're looking to spend some quiet relaxing time away from it all, I highly recommend a stay at Plumita Pacifica. If our next Costa Rican vacation takes us back to the Nicoya Peninsula we will certainly be staying at Gary's little slice of paradise again!

“Quiet Paradise”
Reviewed 2 March 2016 for a stay in February 2016

My wife and I could not have been happier with our choice of accommodations. Gary runs an excellent little slice of heaven right on the beach. His description and videos of the property are exactly what you get. The apartment was clean and had everything we needed for a wonderful stay. If you are looking for tennis courts, a pool, widescreen TVs, and the full spa treatment, this is not the place for you. If however you are looking for la pura vida, this IS the spot. I can definitely see us staying here on a return visit to Costa Rica, I just hope it isn't too far in the future. As for Gary's recommendations on a tour company, trust me, the folks at TPV couldn't have put together a better day of tours. Wonderful way to explore the area. Several nearby restaurants as well, but glad we had a rental car for easy of getting around. Hasta Luego!

“Right on the beach”
Reviewed 22 February 2016 for a stay in February 2016

Rented for 3 nights with my 16 yr old daughter. wanted a place that was quiet and as close to the beach as possible. This place is exactly as it looks in the pictures. The beach is literally right out the front door, which is hard to find. There were very few people around, so we enjoyed an entire Costa Rican beach basically to ourselves. The owner, Gary, was friendly and easy to rent from. This is not a fancy place, so if that's what you want, don't stay here, but if you are looking to be right o the beach and fairly solitary, then go here! You can rent surf boards and boogie boards a short drive up the road! There's a small store close by and several local restaurants. The only thing that my daughter didn't like was that there were ants in the room at times, but that's what you get when you live right on the beach. The owner gave us some ant spray to use and then it was fine. perfect weather every day, and a tiny piece of costa rican beach paradise.

“Great Beach-modest accommodation”
Reviewed 24 January 2016 for a stay in November 2015

This property is located on a fairly quiet beach, but not so quiet that you can leave your belongings unattended. Apartment consists of two very small rooms, with air conditioning located in the living area and not the sleeping area (definitely a negative). There are three rental units in this complex. The one we rented was definitely in need of fresh paint, replacement of kitchen items, pillows and linens. An electric coffee maker is not standard issue but apparently may be available upon request. Several restaurants and two small grocery stores are within walking distance. The town has no cab service so having your own transportation would be preferable. Probably a good choice for a young traveler, but for those who enjoy comfort and cleanliness it may be advisable to check other rentals in this very small, quiet town.

Well, I obviously did not do a good job of informing these guests of the fact that 1. Yes, the apartment does need paint and is scheduled for that. 2. The floor fan brings the cool air from the living room right into the bedroom, since the two rooms are adjacent. 3. I expressly tell my guests that they can put the lounge chairs and the plastic chairs anywhere outside that they wish, leave them there all day long, and not worry that anything will be stolen. I also ask them to bring them to the apartment at night (that's only logical). 4. Yes, a coffee maker is available on request and I show them the "tico" method of making coffee, which makes better coffee than a coffee maker, and that is always in the kitchen! 5. What can I say about pots and pans? They're better than the ones I've had in hotel kitchenettes in the U.S. but of course they are not "gourmet", and this guest might have been pleasant enough to mention that the kitchen is a full, U.S. style kitchen, not a "kitchenette" and completely equipped, as I like to say, "right down to the toothpicks". 6. I guess not everyone likes the same kinds of sheets, pillows, etc. but at least everything was neat and CLEAN. 7. Had they asked I could have told them how to get cab service. After all, this is Costa Rica, where nothing is exactly like it is in the U.S., but cab service is only a phone call away. 7. Therefore, for those who like comfort, cleanliness, tranquility and a safe place to relax... it doesn't get much better than Plumita Pacifica. 8. As an after thought, maybe I should have asked them if this was there first trip to C.R., where it's best to leave all your gringo expectations at home and be prepared to "go with the flow of C.R"... PURA VIDA!!!

“Paradise on the beach!”
Reviewed 24 January 2016 for a stay in January 2016

ust spent a fantastic 8 nights here. Everything was just great. Off the grid and very quiet. If you want the party scene Tamarindo is a short 30 minute drive away. You won't need a 4X4 to get here but if you want to explore, I recommend one. Only thing I would like in the unit is a more comfortable couch to be able to stretch out on after a hard day in the sun and surf. Everything else in the unit is great. If you are lucky enough you will get to witness turtles coming onto the beach at night or if the eggs are hatching, the hatchery releases at sunset and you can go release the baby turtles to the sea. All in all we are very satisfied with our stay and will return if available on our next trip to Costa Rica. Thanks Gary for being a wonderful host!

Thank you Scott for the nice review... And if the apartment could accommodate a larger couch it would have one... In the meantime I invite you, the next time you're here (any who read this), to stretch out on my big double hammock in the shade of a coconut palm!

“Perfect place to relax!”
Reviewed 17 January 2016 for a stay in January 2016

My husband and I stayed at Gary's place for 2 nights while travelling through the area but after leaving wish it was for longer. If you are looking for a place that seems to be "off the map" then this is it! The apartment is ideal, clean, has all the comforts needed, great AC (if desired) and still space to spread out. The area is a little remote but that is the attraction. Do not come here expecting a bar scene, this is a place to have a drink on the patio, watch the amazing sunsets, or sit in a hammock and listen to the surf/ read a book. As mentioned in other reviews, strongly recommend getting your groceries before arriving, i.e. in Santa Cruz, as the local stores are limited in their variety (particularly meat) and of course a little more expensive. We only tried one place for dinner, Tatonka (?) Hotel and Restaurant, GREAT pizza! It was a short walk down the road and yes it is dark so we found our flashlights extremely useful.
The beach! Absolutely beautiful, walk for miles, clean, swim friendly. There is a very active volunteer group located in the area that attempts to protect the turtle eggs/ release of young as well as assists with the cleaning the beach. We were lucky enough to witness the release of Olive Ridley turtles so if in the area ask the volunteers if any are due and they allow you to watch- no flash photography please! We did admire their efforts and the advances they have made in area, i.e. reduced lighting on the beach, not using white lights etc- great job!
Gary is a very accomodating and more than happy to provide suggestions for restaurants etc. when requested. He has a great spot and can see why he never wanted to leave after finding it!
