A little pricey, but the room was great: big, clean and comfortable. The wi-fi sitration (due to heir location) is a little strange, but overall it was a good experience. The restaurant out front was a real bonus. We loved the lobby cat, too!

It was late and driving from Dawson City to Whitehorse doesn't give you many choices when you're tired. We already walked out of one roadside, gas station hotel because it was unheated and poor. Carmacks Hotel looked like an oasis in the Yukon territory. Surely Jack London would've endorsed this place!

The front desk was closed by 11 p.m. but you could make a reservation with the bartender at the bar. I would normally belly up to the bar for a cold one but my wife was waiting in the car and it was probably best she wasn't there with the truck drivers and other woodland denizens. Call me snooty. People were nice and you'd probably enjoy meeting the locals here. Do it when you're not tired.

We climbed the stairs to our room. The hallways were a bit dark and the carpet and wallpaper was obviously worn. What a bonus, though. We looked around the corner and we were welcomed with a friendly MEOW! Yes, ladies and gentlemen....there was a cat living in the hallway. Now, we're not just talking about wandering around. We're talking litter box, food dishes and kitty toys! Can't say I've ever seen that one!

We gave the kitty a little love and walked down the hall to our room. The room matched the hallways: tired and worn. But hey, it's late and your options are limited. "Deal with it!" was my philosophy. We camped two nights in Dawson City and the beds were comfortable and the showers were hot. Can't say much about the bathroom. The place needs a bit of handiwork. But like many places in Alaska and the Yukon, the hotel also served as an apartment building for those who stay for the season.

We got up early and found breakfast in the small grocery store next door. Great coffee, good food and off to Whitehorse. If we could've driven longer, we wouldn't have made this stop. You can find much better accomodations at the same price or cheaper in the "big" city!

We recently stayed at the RV campground behind and supplied by Carmacks Hotel. While I can't comment about the hotel itself, I can comment on the service provided by the bar attendant, who was the only one around when we checked in. The office doesn't seem to be open very often!! Sullen and unhelpful service comes to mind, and you'd better make sure they tell you which site has more power as you get charged for it - to be expected, but would be nice to be told. The toilets/showers stunk and didn't look like they'd been cleaned for a while, and were in very poor condition. Try camping down the road a little where there's another campground is my suggestion.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of choices for accommodation in the Carmacks area, but the Carmacks Hotel provides acceptable accommodation at an acceptable price. Our room was reasonably clean and contained everything we needed, although the fridge was very noisy and the mosquito screen across the window bent.

Be aware that the front desk seems to be open for a limited time, free wifi is limited in terms of time on-line each day and the "pub" closes in the early hours of the mornng - we found that this meant some interruption to our sleep until things quietened down again.

On the plus side the restaurant was very good, the food, in good quantity, cooked well (ok, not 5 star gourmet - but very acceptable) and there was a good variety for all tastes both for dinner and breakfast - well done to the staff on this one. The complex also includes a shop and gas station.

In Carmacks the accomodation choises are very limited but this hotel is a good stop.
Our room was ok., a bit small but clean and essential. In front of the hotel there is the restaurant (not interesting), a well stocked general store and ...precious gas pumps!
Well located near the scenic Yukon river.
