“Not the Ritz but a cute country inn feel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 June 2013

Although these reviews, seem terrible, myself and my husband had quite a nice time here. We bought the deal off Go Groopie and we were not expecting the Ritz. When we arrived the outside looked very nice. It looked like a grand country pub but much much bigger than a pub. It is located in a woody, leafy village and it all had a very quaint feel. Even though it is only 30 mins outside of London, you definitely felt far into the countryside which was nice. The staff were friendly and the food in the hotel was good and there was a range of things to choose from. We then sat in the huge beer garden and were happy to discover that drinks were cheap in the hotel. Although, it probably could do with a brush up to the rooms, it was all we needed in a short break and in a location that was easy to reach.

We stayed here overnight on the May Bank Holiday, first impressions from outside were good, but when they showed us to our room, we were disappointed. The carpet leading up to the rooms on the stairs looked like it need a good hoover, and the carpet in the room was no better! The general maintenance of our room was poor to say the least, the shower door didn't close, the shower itself appeared dirty and the tiles were scruffy, the bedding smelt like it hadn't been washed! The only thing we liked, was the breakfast and the general area, which is good for walks.
We wouldn't stay there again but we would stay in the area as it was very pretty.

Had a voucher to stay here for one night otherwise I have to say I would not stay here for the right price. You cannot fault the staff they make you feel very welcome & the chef Shane does really good food. The rooms are small but ok ,bed sheets had just been thrown on not ironed, the toilet was badly stained, overall the cleaning could do with a bit more T L C.The tv was not very good kept losing reception. When checking out we paid the bill for the food and our drinks for the evening before but like another review found we had a service charge for the drinks we had got ourselves this cannot be right you should only have service charge for what is brought to you table which was only our meal.we also found that the beer was very over priced a pint Heineken £4.55 we don't even pay that much in a hotel.

Room Tip: there isn't one

We were given a mighty deal voucher as a gift. This was a nights b & b with 3 course evening meal.
We arrived approx 4 pm. Shown straight to room. First room was smallish but TV reception rubbish. Because no one else booked in they moved us to another room with v good tv reception. It's obvious to me this is run by men as the duvet cover although clean was all creased as not ironed and non matching pillow cases. That sounds trivial but a first impression walking into a room is half the battle!
I looked in bathroom and the loo rolls were all stacked on top of cistern. When I moved one to flush loo ( it is a press button on top) the button bit wasn't there , just the mechanism. We since told its on order.
The other thing was there is a bathroom peddle bin but when you lift lid there's not actually any bin in there! Just a carcass :-/. Floor tiles badly cracked and dangerous if not unhygienic
Last gripe.... The shower doors need to be cleaned, they are horrid!! Wouldn't use the shower.
Now the good stuff......
Staff are lovely, I felt embarrassed mentioning the loo so left it at that
Food was great. Lots to choose from on set menu and good variety
Quick to come out with it too
Breakfast was lovely. Decent coffee
All in all for a pub b & b at the price they charge it was great but don't expect luxury or frills.
My hubby didn't notice the things I did so maybe that's the difference. Men/ women :-)

First visit for a long time and attracted on this occasion by "New Carvery" sign. Arrived 1 o/c Pub cold requested heat on two occasions but nothing changed. Collected our own drinks and meal from carvery which we would have expected with such arrangement but amazed that service was charged to the bill. No appropriate glass for shorts and ran out of ginger wine. As it happens the carvery was acceptable but the spotted dick was as hard as nails. Will not return.

Old style pub with good beer and good food. Pleasant staff, nice atmosphere. One of the best pubs in the area if you want an affordable meal and a quiet drink All you could ask for in a local. Not a lot more I can say but a review has to be at lease 200 characters so I'll mention its got adequate parking and a garden as well. ..............................................................................................................................................................................

If you in thebSurrey, Oxted, Godstone are looking for an overnight or two night stay this warm welcoming , lovely pub, is ideal. With spacious double room tv, on suite, tea making and below a restaurant of high quality not just pub grub, they also save brilliant English Ales too many to mention, a romantic break, or trip to Lingfield races 10mins away...it's well worth it

Room Tip: Rooms all good little noise from cosy pub below, can't lose here !
