Wonderfully atmospheric. We were given a choice of the Maharajah’s or Maharani’s bedroom, and after looking, plumped for the Maharani’s which was straight out of the Arabian nights – with modern conveniences.

Having the place to yourself, almost, after the tourists had gone was quite special. It is quite crowded during the day, but once the tour groups have departed and the local tourists have gone, it comes into its own as somewhere special.

Dinner under the stars was pleasant, though food wasn’t great.

I found this place quite royal, it more like a heritage hotel in the sands. Pokaran is a small town while on your way to Jaisalmer and this is a good place to take a night halt. I stayed there for 3 nights and 4 days in one of their top rooms. The staff is very polite and courteous. Infact their service is average, but makes you feel 'royal'. The food is just normal local food, but loved the non-veg make of theirs. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The ambiance is created to give you the old historic feel. Mornings are little chirpy as this fort is also a tourist attraction, but in the evenings, the fort is pretty much to yourself. It tends to get cold and pleasant in the evenings and its worth to while the time in the sit-out.

Room Tip: Try their room on the first floor.

This is quite a special place. It is the old fort of Pokaran, where people visit the museum and holy shrines on a day visit. But when night falls the fort is yours. It has beautifully restored rooms, our royal suite was very big and extraordinary well designed. The hotel is managed by a government organization and you can sense that: service is not smooth and seems a bit forced. Pool and fountains were out of order. Food was great, but again a bit strange being served in this beautiful old Palace Hall with us as the only guests. We liked the stroll into the city: into the tiny streets were no Western tourist ever comes. We liked the architecture of the Fort and have no regrets on staying there, but with a little more love and smile it could have been better.

Room Tip: the suite rooms are even for India quite expensive. we had one, but is was very beautiful

Historic design interesting and rooms, food and service perfectly satisfactory for the money. Beds pretty hard and rooms a little cold.

We stayed one night in the two suites of this place, both of which are nicely renovated to host guests. After spending the day exposed to the chaos, this place seems a pleasant surprise for quieting down and away from outside world. The same for the food, served in this grand dinner room. The mutton dish is highly recommended.

It would be great if the place can be further converted into a full-fledged hotel.
