I liked this low-key stroll through native plants along a path that wound in and out of Mayan-style houses. In each hut, some aspect of Mayan culture and chocolate is exhibited and at the last one, the entire process of making chocolate from harvest of the pods to the delicious cup of chocolate handed you, is demonstrated. It's an interesting add-on to an Uxmal trip and supports villagers.

We discovered this gem of a place on our way to the ruins of Labna on the Puuc Route of archeological sites. It was great. We really enjoyed all the signs and descriptions of the different trees and plants, the various recreations of typical Mayan houses showing the Mayan history and way of life and finally the history of cacao and production of chocolate. We stayed for the short recreation of a typical Mayan "Rain Dance" and demonstration of the making of chocolate. This is a very well thought out and well presented museum with an especial emphasis on the ecology.

I was disappointed . The site is a loop trail of about a quarter mile in length in the jungle. Every 10 yards there is a hut with placards and displays. A lot of fascinating information, but very dry.

One of the group has an anthropology degree and she loved it. The rest of us were mildly bored.

The show wasn't running when we there. Tried to ask for next show time, but actually had problems finding an English speaking employee.

The cup of Mayan chocolate was good, but didn't justify entry cost.

Cafeteria is just soda stand.

I guess the issue is how much time you have. If your in greater Uxmal for several days, then consider going. If you only have a single day, this is a low yield event. Certainly doesn't compare with Kabah or even Sayil. Glad my kids are older; younger ones would be bored outright.

Perhaps they could have a guide . That might enlighten things

Go Monday thru Friday if possible. They perform during the week only and you don't want to miss the show. You will be amazed by this jewel in the jungle.

There is some interesting information about cocoa and chocolate, but I expected more since it iis a smaill museum that already saw its best days. The nice thing is that you can try the old mayan chocolate drink.
