We stayed here on our way to Scotland, lovely friendly hosts from the second we arrived, the room was immaculate and comfortable, a great nights sleep. The breakfast has to be the best breakfast we have ever had in our life! Just lovely, only wished we had stayed longer.

Very lovely, comfortable B&B situated in a quiet village yet close enough to Alnwick, Bamburgh & Bewick & obviously all the coastline inbetween.
We were met warmly upon arrival, shown to our room & were offered a lovely pot of tea & biscuits to settle in with. During our three nights stay everything was perfect & very pleasant, from a spendid breakfast to booking our table at the local village pub 3-4mins amble away (slightly longer returning due to excellent meals & wine) nothing was to much trouble. Plently of local knowledge either in person or on the info' table outside the rooms. We stayed in Room1 which was very comfortable, but I am sure all will be to the same excellent standard!
Will return later this year, hopefully, as we have a years pass for Alnwick Castle & Gardens, other than being booked up I would not wish to stay elsewhere when in that area.

Room Tip: Room1 where we stayed has a view towards the front, but is quiet & very comfortable. The other t...

Having stayed before we wanted to give my father the Old School experience. If you want a little piece of heaven in Northumberland this is the place to stay. The welcome is always warm, with tea and cakes on arrival. The rooms provide every comfort and we judge all breakfasts by the standard of Malcolm's. Nothing has ever been found their equal. This is a wonderful place to stay and we look forward to many more visits.

Room Tip: No tips needed all accommodation is superb

My wife and I decided to spend three nights in Northumberland on the way back from a holiday in Scotland. After reading the outstanding reviews on here, it was an easy decision to book this excellent bed and breakfast and we were not disappointed. We were met by Cath on the drive and immediately shown to our wonderful room before being given a pot of tea and some cake - most welcome after a 4 hour journey!

The room was not huge but beautifully presented and the compact shower room was very up to date with plenty of towels, soaps, shower gels etc.

The highlight though was undoubtedly the breakfast - such a huge choice and all perfectly cooked and presented. I had the 'Old School Platter' each day which kept me going till the evening - it was a huge plateful!

Another plus point is the location. Just a few miles from Alnwick, Newton on the Moor boasts a wonderful pub where the quality of the food in either the bar or the main restaurant was excellent. We ate there on all three nights and were very pleased - not too expensive either.

I would recommend the 'Old School', to anyone that was thinking of taking a break in Northumberland.

my husband and I only had one evening away together due to work and believe me there was no where we would have rather been. This was our first visit but will not be the last. we were met in the driveway by Kath and treat like friends, the B&B is like a picture box and the gardens outstanding. our room was 5star with all your needs taken care of from bottles of water to a lap top for personal use. I had forgotten my toothbrush and within mins a new brush was at our door. After an evening of good food and drink at the nearby pub we spent a relaxing evening in our room with our electric shutters blocking out the light. Breakfast next morning is the best we have ever had the attention to detail second to none, nothing was any trouble to our hosts. I would reccomend this B&B to anyone and we cannot wait to return asap.

From the moment you arrive you are made to feel welcome. We were met on the drive as we stepped out our car and immediately shown to our room. Tea and cakes then awaited us in the comfortable lounge area - the weather wasn't quite warm enough to enjoy it in the well kept garden.
The room itself (room 3) was clean, bright and very well appointed with an en-suite shower and toilet. Everything was nice and clean and smelt fresh.
After a good nights sleep in the comfy bed, we enjoyed a very tasty freshly cooked breakfast, using locally sourced produce, which set us up for a day of exploring the Northumberland coast.
The B&B itself is located in Newton on the Moor which is a about 10 minutes south of Alnwick, just off the A1. There is a very nice pub in the village which is within very easy walking distance.
Overall, a very pleasant stay in a lovely bed and breakfast.

We have recently spent a night here when touring Northumberland with some American friends. We all found The Old School to be absolutely perfect. We were met as we arrived and shown to our rooms. We were then welcomed with a cup of tea and piece of cake. The rooms had been designed with everything thought of with a guest in mind. The bed was comfortable with soft pillows, the lighting was perfect, there were plenty of hooks in bathroom, plenty of coat hangers in wardrobe and bathrobes provided. There was hospitality tray and mineral water. There were also plenty of plugs and wi-fi. One thing I particularly liked was to be able to sit at a dressing table ,see into a mirror which was well lit and dry my hair! All too often hair drying is done cramped in a corner by only plug available and with my mirror perched on a suitcase. Breakfast was excellent. The menu was far better than we had had at luxury hotels we had stayed in. It was all cooked by Malcolm who, together with his wife Kath, were brilliant hosts. I shall certainly be recommending The old School to friends and one day to return myself.

Room Tip: All rooms perfect
