I love it when a treat that you've looked forward to turns out be better than expected. Malcom and Kath are running an exellent b&b. A fresh pot of tea in the lounge on arrival is the start of a wonderful stay. The rooms are of the highest standard and the breakfasts are fantastic and plentyful.
Situated 5 miles south of Alnwick and 30 mins from Banbourgh you can enjoy the best of Britains castles and the Northeasts scenery.
We wouldn't hesitate to book again.

We stayed after attending the graduation of our daughter. Based on previous stays at various B&Bs I already had formed a negative perception so much so that I avoid ALL B&Bs wherever possible. However, after staying at the Old School I have changed my opinion completly. My experience of B&Bs tended to be dowdy, depressing, old, musty smelling rooms, bedsprings that are shot, with an en-suite as an afterthought built into a closet and with Owners who tended to be indifferent. We arrived with the beginnings of a storm. The Owners came out to help us unload and carry our bags to our rooms (our daughter was with us). Our room at The Old School House was fresh, the decor was plain and not garish with quality "spongy" towels in the bathroom. The bed plus bedsheets etc was as inviting and as comfortable as beds at any Four Seasons Hotel that I have stayed at AND more to the point, I did not end up sinking into the middle. Bottled water was available all the time as was Tea and Coffee facilities. As the hosts said, they sell sleep and provide breakfast and they intend to deliver on both. The breakfast was quite superb with a varied choice and all freshly cooked by Malcolm. I could not get over how extremely quiet the setting was.
Malcolm was extremely knowledgeable about the sights etc that we had planned to take in and advised us as to best options available, local restaurants within a 20 mile radius etc.
We stayed three nights and we would return if we were visiting the Northeast again.
I have no hesitation in recommending this property.

A peaceful b&b with lovely gardens and very friendly hosts. The breakfasts are amazing - so much choice, make sure you bring a big appetite! We stayed in room 3 which really nice, cosy with nice modern touches. If we were returning to the area would definitely stay again.

Myself and hubbie have just returned from our long weekend away at The Old School. We really wanted to recommend Malcolm and Kaths B and B as it is like no other we have stayed in. From the warm welcome on our arrival, the amazing locally sourced breakfasts and modern thoughtfully laid out rooms make your stay even more memorable. After reading previously written reviews on trip advisor, we can certainly say that they have upheld their well earned reputation. The awards this modest couple win are so deserved. We can't wait to return!

We love Northumberland and my husband's mum was born in Newcastle upon Tyne so we are often in the region. This is the second 5 star B&B we have tried in the area and it is fantastic and totally deserves the 5 stars. Kath and Malcolm welcomed us as soon as we parked and helped with bags and suitcases. Coffee, biscuits and cake were served in the lounge. We were in room 3 upstairs and it is beautiful with its beams and tactile stone wall. The ensuite shower room is perfect with lovely soft towels of various sizes. the local pub is a short walk for a great evening meal. Alnwick is a short drive away. Breakfasts are great and there is a vast choice. The fresh fruit salad was a favourite. The cooked breakfasts are amazing. Our relatives also stayed here and Kath was able to provide for a gluten free diet. We will definately stay again.

This B&B is simply lovely. We stayed in room 2 which was very clean and had everything we needed. It even had a emergency tin in the drawer including things we might have forgotten ... cotton wool, tweezers etc. A lovely touch. There was fresh coffee available and chilled bottled water. The breakfasts were lovely and the owners lovely and really helpful. I felt like they would have done anything to make our stay more enjoyable. A village pub serving lovely food was only 200 yards away. It was a perfect base to explore the beautiful north east .. . holy island is only half an hour drive away.
We had a lovely stay and would recommend it to anyone.

Stayed here for 2 nights and had a great time. We had room 2 which was the only room available when we booked. It wasn't huge, but nicely funished, and the window looked out onto the lovely garden, so it felt very private. It was very comfortable and clean and the hosts were friendly and helpful. The best thing about the place was the breakfasts, served in a lovely dining room, there were around 10 choices, including eggs benedict, smoked salmon, full english breakfast, and locally smoked haddock or kippers. Malcolm has obviously had professional training as the dishes were very tasty & beautifully presented.

The other major benefit to staying here is the excellent restaurant around 5 minutes walk away, the Cook & Barker Inn. One of the nicest places I have eaten for a long time. Also had a fantastic meal at the Sanctuary in Alnwick, around 10 minutes walk away. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
