We are back from an wonderful family 5 day stay in Charleville Park hotel. The hotel does everything it says on the tin with restaurant, bar, pool and rooms of a high standard, but it is the staff at this hotel which are its hidden strength, and will ensure that we return again.

I start with reservations and front desk and the wonderful Norah who was so helpful in suggesting family things to do in the area, who always said hello to my little boy and has a real can do attitude when we had requests.

Melissa was always on hand when we needed that extra bit of help be it providing extra requests for food, iced water for the room, fans or just a quiet space for our wee one to run around.

Evelyn, was amazing she remembered my son's name, asked after him every day when he was poorly and always made us feel like cherished guests rather than people passing through. When we were worried about James passing on his bug in the hotel both Melissa and Evelyn arranged for some quiet space in a bar to be served so we could escape without embarrassment if James became ill. All these little touches really added up.

The staff at this hotel made us feel like part of the family after 5 days.

The hotel itself does have room for improvement. A different bar and restaurant menu is a must. There was also no mention of Charleville cheese?? or any local products which was very surprising when in the heartland of a farming community. The menu could really benefit from pulling on the wonderful local produce in the area and supporting the local farming community.

The hotel would greatly benefit from a playground as it is already really geared to this family sector of the market. They already offer a kiddies day programme and a nightly movie and popcorn event for families allowing Mum and Dad a couple of hours away too.

Kids packs with colouring, stickers and cut outs are available in all areas of the hotel. The pool area has a kids adults and relaxation area was very good, but the family changing rooms could do with being a bit larger.

The quiet bar was shut during our stay, and I felt that Eds bar was too noisy and bustley a lot of the time and would have liked to be able to use the quieter bar as an option.

There is no spa at the hotel but I did go to a local beauticians called Harmony in the town which offers excellent value and a wide range of treatments. I would recommend it to guests wishing to have a few treatments while in the area. I would also suggest that the hotel might want to link in with local beauticians as an add on to their own offerings in the hotel as there are several in the town.

The hotel has changed management and is in a period of transition while they take on board comments. We do hope to return and perhaps see some of these suggestions in place. We also look forward to returning to such a wonderful staff.

My thanks to Melissa Evelyn and Norah for a memorable stay.

Room Tip: we upgraded to a suite at the front of the hotel which was wonderfully spacious. There is no aircon...

I have to concur completely with the previous review...we are just back from a 5 night stay in the hotel with 3 young children. We also took advantage of an amazing online offer and were utterly impressed from the outset. Firstly the deal was incredible value and enabled us to have a family holiday when we had been resigned to staying at home this year due to house renovation costs. Despite our bargain buyer status we were treated as 5 star guests from the outset. I totally agree with the previous reviewer in highlighting the outstanding customer service; the girls on reception are constantly friendly, bubbly, courteous, professional and more than helpful towards adults and children alike. I witnessed this on many occasions, in particular on a couple of warm evenings when I chose to sit in the foyer seating area to read my paper. Despite being extremely busy with external calls and bookings, internal calls and requests from rooms, children coming to choose DVDs for the evening, folks booking in at the desk....they just seemed to have inexhaustible supplies of goodwill and humour with everyone they dealt with. Such a credit and asset to the hotel. This hotel is also immensely child friendly and runs like clockwork...the organisation is so smooth and professional. As part of the deal the children could attend a kids club supervised by the leisure centre staff who are equally lovely helpful folks....I actually commented about this on the 3rd or 4th day, the staff were so impressive that I wondered was there something in the water or air that I could bottle for myself!....the kids club was fab, the children loved it and included a wide range of activities including swimming lessons every day...(eldest son's swimming def improved) free as part of the package....reckon that the hotel leisure centre staff deserve a medal for the patience and professionalism they showed to the children. And with the children supervised for 4 hours each morning, husband and myself actually got to spend time together! Coffee, tea, paper reading...shopping....amazing! Again in the evening the children had a supervised movie night with popcorn and hot chocolate which allowed us to have a meal/ drink in the bar. (Bar food and staff lovely too...!) we also had two lovely picnic lunches included on the days of our choice. I may seem overly effusive, but believe me, with three small children, the facilities and standard of the hotel for families is just brilliant, especially considering the deal price. There were very thoughtful touches such as kids activity packs in the foyer and restaurant at breakfast, and DVD player in the bedroom. The area is very beautiful countryside with plenty to see and do in the vicinity. However, the children loved the hotel and just wanted to stay there, we went for day trips a couple of days and they just wanted to go back to the hotel and the swimming pool..which was their favourite thing. I and my whole family have had a brilliant time, and were sad to come home, we were blessed by very good weather, but I can safely say that even if had been rainy we would have loved our time here. If they run family deals again, we will definitely be back! A big thanks to the hotel for our holiday which was just brilliant!

From the minute we walked into this hotel the receptionists couldn't be more helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them, and as we passed the desk they always had a very friendly hello and smile for us. The rooms were first class and couldn't be faulted. Great lighting for reading.(a big gripe with me when there is bad lighting that's impossible to read with). The breakfast was super and same story again, the dining staff couldn't have friendlier and every request was met with "no problem". We were given a picnic lunch each day with a bottle of wine! We did a hike in the Ballyhoura mountains and this was the icing on the cake. We swam and yes, once more the pool staff were so nice. We actually wondered was there anyone in the hotel that was 'cross'
We will definitely be back to this jewel in the crown. We were on a special offer but at no time did was feel this made any difference to the excellence experience was had with this wonderful Hote. Nora and Evelyn (receptionist) deserve a special mention.

Room Tip: A tip, but not for choosing a good room... Ask for a top sheet as the room was very warm (weather ve...

We stopped for a bite to eat on the way to Galway. The menu covered a fairly wide selection of tastes. My wife had a pasta dish and I had the caesar salad. My wife enjoyed her dish however I found mine to be below average. The chicken was dried out and almost no dressing on the dish and the croutons were like bullets.

Disappointed

Highly recommend a stay here. Room was luxurious and exceptionally clean. Staff so friendly and helpful. We were on a girls break away but also great place for families judging by all the things we saw advertised to keep them occupied (and out of our way!!). Pool was nice and again exceptionally clean. Only thing let it down was the restaurant was closed midweek (bar was serving food but we wanted a more formal meal so went elsewhere). Had a drink in the bar. It lacks atmosphere - cold decor and lots of sectioning. Overall great stay and would recommend.

This is a real gem of a hotel between Limerick and Cork. It would not be out of place in a major tourist city but someone thought to put it in Charleville, or rather on the outskirts. It gets a lot of local trade for its daily carvery, its Leisure Centre, and activities for mothers and babies and the children of both residents and locals. It works its socks off to get customers through the door. With plenty of parking, spacious corridors, and a country house style central staircase it belies its location
What is the best bit about the hotel is the possibility of a room upgrade. We paid the equivalent of £10 extra a night to swop our room for a suite. The suite comprised; hallway, bedroom, dressing room, lounge with large settee and an office with free wifi. We got a special rate because we were staying for eight days, but the normal cost would be around £20 extra.
Breakfast is excellent (7.30 -10.30) – locals even pop in and buy. Bubbling urn of porridge, all the fruit and nuts and pastries and croissants and toast you can eat, a range of cereals and fruit juices and of course all the components of a full cooked breakfast. One of the best we’ve seen. Only wish there were kippers though! Each person gets a good size pot of tea or coffee which lasts through the meal- no having to ask for more. Coffee is very palatable.
Charleville is half an hour from Limerick and Adare. It has hourly buses to Cork and to Limerick. It also has a railway station but, like the UK where the fares set by the highwaymen who run the railways are eye watering,Ireland is fast catching up.
The buses are really regular and frequent. From our hotel window you could almost set your watch by them.
So for the quality of the hotel and for its price and for the access to public transport you would be wise to consider it. If you have kids it would be a blessing – Kids film shown every night for a couple of hours plus leisure centre activities. Lough Gur (Prehistoric remains) not far -a top class location and don't forget Kilmallock just down the road. The most substantial (free entry) ruined abbey I have visited and just along from it is a further church site of real interest.
