“Good location, very good Value for Money”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

This Ibis Budget is handily placed on the east side of Munich, not far from either the outer ringroad - 5 minutes drive - or the local SBahn station (5 minutes walk), and is either a 15 minute drive into the city centre or 25 minutes on SBahn to Munich HBf.

It is also within a 10 minute drive of Allianz Arena.

The hotel is typical no frills Ibis Budget. Very clean, with elevator to all floors (not a given in this chain), good strong free wifi, efficient check-in, free parking both on-street and on-site.

Staff in the hotel are very efficient, very polite and helpful.

I stayed here for three nights in June. I frequently stay at Ibis hotels but this location did not compare to any of the ones I have stayed before. This is the budget Ibis and i stayed at a Budget Ibis before but both were completely different. This hotel smelled like cigarettes everywhere. Our first day we arrived 15 mins prior to check in time and they just made us wait till exactly 2pm before attending us. The hotel is pretty far from the city centre but is located about 10 min walk away from Riem sbahn station. The breakfast at the hotel was good as well.

We stay six nights in this hotel (three and then another three) over our spring break vacation. Our family of four (two teenagers) did not fit in one room; thus, we had two rooms. Each room could fit three easily.

Location: The hotel was about 300 yards from S2 line, Riem Station. To get to the hotel from the airport, we took S8-Herrsching to Leuchtenbergring Station. At Leuchtenberging Station, we changed to S1-Erding. Got off at Riem station. Got off on the right side of the train. Went left (East) about 20 yards. Then went left into the tunel to get to the North side of the track. Once on the North side of the track, walked East about 100 yards. The road turned North. The hotel could be seen on the left side of the road, 100 yards North of the turn. The whole trip from the airport to the hotel (including waiting for the train and the walk) took about 45 minutes. Note: Riem station did not have escalators or elevators; thus, we lugged our luggages down/up the stairs (about 15 steps down and 15 steps up). Could be a small issue if you have lots of luggages.
To go into Munich, we used S2-Petershausen. S2 ran about once every 15 minutes. It tooks about 15 minutes to go from Riem Station to Marientplatz Station (Munich City Center).

Facilities: The young man at the front desk checked us in very quickly. He spoke English well. We had two rooms. Either room would fit three easily. The rooms were decent size, enough for our luggages and a small area to sit. The shower was right in the room. My wife was a bit uncomfortable at first; but, then we were fine after. The rooms were clean. Bedsheets, towers, blankets were all cleaned and changed everyday. We didnot have a car but there seems to be plenty of free parkings on the street in front of the hotel. The area seemed to be very safe; thus, we would have no problem parking there.

Foods: We read the comments someone made about not finding foods around. We found that was not true. We found plenty of choices around as we were willig to walk and explore the place. The hotel offered breakfast for a fee. We chose not to use it. There was a restaurant ran by the hotel. We did not use it. There was several places to eat nearby. (1) Just across the street from the hotel, there is a small dinner opening early in the morning until around 7:00pm. It was ran by an midage couple. Great foods here with a beer. (2) There was a kebab place at the train station. We had great kebabs here. (3) Walking North from the hotel about 300 yards, there was an Italian restaurant. We saw a few people eating there. We did not. (4) Right next to the Italian restaurant was a Lidl (groceries store). We bought most our foods here. Their bake goods selection was fantastic. Go early in the morning for the fresh bake bread and prezzles. Very inexpensive option if you are on a budget. We were there during rasberry seasons so our girl had rasberry every day: 1 euro a pack. (5) Walking past the Lidl for a quarter of a mile, there was a Thai restaurant. We ate there once but did not like it. Just because my wife cook great Thai at home. (6) Next to this Thai restaurant was a German restaurant, the locals ate here. We had dinners there. The foods was exellent (pork knuckles and fish). Beer was great too. The waitress there spoked perfect English. In fact, she was from Kentucky, Carrolton to be exact. One of her kid still live there. This place opened late. We saw many locals came while we were there. (7) Coming out of Riem, instead of go North down the tunel toward the hotel, went South (right), after about a quarter of a miles passing through a residential neighborhood, turned right on Riemer Street. There was another German restaurant and a pizza parlor there. We did not eat at either places but they seemed to have a lot of customers as we went by. There were more restaurants as we went about a mile into Riem. But that was a bit far out...

Overall, we liked this hotel. We got a clean and safe hotel for a great price in a convenient location. We would highly recommend this place for anyone who are traveling on a budget.

Room Tip: We were on the third floor. The area was very quiet at night. We slept with the window open and ha...
