Where else can you go on nine mile hikes and gain weight? We, as did many of the other reviewers, stayed at Hotel delle Rose while on an HF Holidays walking (US translation - hiking) trip. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Included are breakfasts and before dinner appetizers in the rooftop bar, and a two course dinner with fruit, dessert and coffee in the dining room. The first course is a choice between soup and homemade pasta. The second course is a choice between a seafood or meat, and includes all you want of salad, a potato dish, a vegetable and rolls. It was interesting to try some of the regional produce. One favorite was an orange fruit that I believe is named Nespole. Another was pickled caperberries. The homemade pasta was especially good.

Room Tip: They have free WiFi with the hot spots on the ground and 4th floor. If you want good WiFi, avoid the...

We first stayed in this hotel in October 2008 when we were in Bonassola on an organised walking holiday on and around the Cinque Terre trail. We loved the area and the hotel and had always wanted to return, so we booked a week for just the two of us in September We flew into Genoa airport and took the train down from there - very easy.

The hotel is family-run by Enrico and Roberto Benardin, who are both seemingly ever-present, ensuring everything runs smoothly. They both speak excellent English, are welcoming and extremely knowledgeable and helpful. We had a fantastic room on the the third floor, large and airy and with a sea view. The hotel is super-clean and fresh and, since our last visit, now benefits from having a roof-top terrace where breakfast is served each morning. It is also used as a bar in the evenings for pre- and post-prandial drinks.

The food is very good. Breakfast can include cold meat, cheese and hard-boiled eggs as well as croissants, focaccia and rolls, with cake and tarts also on offer. The evening meals consisted of the traditional three courses plus fruit, there being two choices of first and second courses, with the menu changing each day. The food was always freshly-cooked, with home-made pasta featuring as well as fish and meat. My only criticism as far as the food is concerned is that the bread rolls offered at breakfast and at dinner are not good; we noticed that, like us, hardly anyone was eating them. To be honest, though, this could hardly have been said to have spoiled our meals - there were always bread-sticks!

Apart from Enrico and Roberto, I have the highest praise for the rest of the people working in the hotel, who were all extremely friendly, courteous and helpful.

Bonassola is north of the Cinque Terre villages and, as a result, is far less frenetic and touristy. We went swimming on an average of at least once a day and thoroughly enjoyed the ambience and the whole experience. Since we were last there the tunnels, through which the old railway lines used to run, have been opened up for use solely as walking/cycling tracks, with no vehicles permitted. This means that you are able to walk/cycle through to the villages either side of Banassola, without having to go by train, which is more-or-less what you had to do before if you did not wish to leg it over the hills.

We were glad that our stay had been such a success and, as a result, have booked again for next year.

Room Tip: Forget the rooms with a balcony. Ask for a room with a sea view on the sea-facing corners of the hot...

The hotel is run by the family with the two brothers Roberto and Enrico constantly present and helpful. The rooms are g.ood and the breakfast roof terrace a pleasure with wonderful views across the bay. Equally good for pre dinner drinks. Overall a very good hotel with perhaps the only niggle is that whilst adequate the food is not actually gastronomic. For those planning to walk in the area Bonassola is much quieter and more comfortable than the actual cinque terrestrial villages and is to be recommended. In reality the cinque terre footpath is not the best walking in the area with lots of less crowded well marked paths with great views of the coast available with minimal research.

Room Tip: Don,t forget to validate your train tickets after you buy them. Large fines possible

We stayed here in June with a walking group from the UK. The brothers who run the hotel speak wonderful English, the food is very fresh and local, the pasta is home made every day and one day a week a pasta demo in the kitchen is held. That was interesting and the results were eaten that evening. Rooms very adequate with good facilities and so clean. All the staff are very friendly and have been there for years. Only downside is a bar across the road which plays fairly loud music at the weekend which is not the fault of the hotel. All in all, a very pleasant place to stay. Rooftop bar excellent and great for breakfast and a drink in the evening overlooking the sea.

Small, family run hotel, I have stayed there three times, and now the roof top terrace has just added to the charm. So easy to take the train to the 5 villages (ie 5 minutes on the train to the first village). Beach is excellent, with several beach clubs.

This hotel is located very nicely near the beach and is clean and well kept. When the owner realized we would be leaving before breakfast was served on our last day, he prepared a really nice bagged lunch for us to take on the long train ride we had in front of us.
Only complaint I have of this hotel is the coffee at breakfast. It is from an instant coffee machine that just does not make delicious coffee. Real Italian coffee is just so delicious, I could not enjoy it here. Otherwise, not fancy, but felt clean. Even had a place to hang some clothes to dry on the balcony!

I could not fault this well run family 3 star hotel. Delicious food prepared & served by hard working friendly staff. No hesitation to recommend to friends.

Pleased to have free wifi but signal level in bedrooms needs improving with a range extender.
