We came here for D.B.B and once again was not disappointed.Met by Mark who showed us to our room.
The meal was well cooked and presented and within a nice time frame for each serving.Cheese board is a must, beautiful cheeses(the smoked is to die for).
Breakfast again spoilt for choice, continental, cooked breakfast.
Well done Mark and Emmanuelle.A very enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: Have to try the cheese board,it's a must.

We were really looking forward to trying the La Fosse restaurant as we are relatively local but we were really disappointed. Waitress did a stirling job serving tables all on her own. Didn't see the owners/chef from start to finish. Wine and table water, served in very clumsy glasses, was warm. Home made bread virtually inedible especially when served as a garlic crostini. Huge pork chop with some 3 inches of fat on it but impossible to cut - perhaps to some people's taste but very unappetising. Vegetables poorly presented and cooked. Presentation very poor of both meals. Only had two courses but initially given bill for three after saying no to dessert only two minutes previously. Expensive for content and quality of what we had. Feel sad as it should have been good. Can't believe we were in the same place as some of the other reviewers...

We stayed here as a base for the Chalke Valley Historical Society Festival and what a find. As others have said, Cranborne is a quiet village but very friendly. Our "cosy" room was just that, delightfully cosy! We didn't have dinner as we like to explore our new surroundings but if breakfast is anything to go by, then dinner must be a delight. There is a relaxing feel to the hotel and Mark & his staff make you feel welcome. Yes we would go back.

Room Tip: The village square is so quiet, we don't think there is a need to ask for a "quiet" ro...

This was an excellent find. In a quiet village, but easy to get to. Good, clean comfortable rooms and really excellent food. We stayed three nights and were lucky enough to eat twice; we missed out on the first night as the restaurant was fully booked. The food is first class. We are both vegetarian and the menu was tailored to give us a choices we rarely get elsewhere. A1! I see elsewhere that there is criticism of the service, but I did not find this at all. Freshly prepared food does not come off a conveyor belt.... thank goodness.

Room Tip: Our room was at the back, but the village is quiet so I would expect all rooms to be quiet.

What a delight, a home from home, a comfortable well appointed bedroom with everything you need for a perfect stay.
Our evening meal was superb - a journey for the taste buds, each course was excellent & very much enjoyed. Likewise the breakfast, the only criticism - no black pudding.
Unlike one of the earlier reviews the service could not be faulted - welcome drinks within minutes of our arrival.
Definitely worth a return visit.

Room Tip: We had the suite which was excellent, if the other rooms are to the same standard there should be no...

We had heard such great things and were so disappointed with the shocking service! This is the second time I have eaten there and I have to say the service was bad then too. Never again!Meal was booked for 7.30, we had welcome drinks that took ages to arrive, more than half the wine list was out of stock, the lager changed colour every time and we realised it was coming from the Sheaf pub over the road! We went through to eat around 8.15pm, we ordered Prosecco. The dishevelled waitress brought out a warm opened bottle that had clearly had a glass taken from it, when confronted she lied and said it had just been opened and then shrugged her shoulders when we questioned its temperature. No apology, we asked to speak to the manager, she came back with 4 glasses of fizz on the house from the manager, still no apology from her....She also said do you want dinner or not? To which we were confused as why we would sit somewhere waiting for two hours not to have our dinner?! Dinner finally arrived at around 9.45pm, there were 13 people in the restaurant all waiting for tables to be cleared, waiting for bills, one poor woman was sat 30 minutes waiting for the bill her husband went and sat in the car as he got fed up of waiting, most had empty glasses and empty plates in front of them waiting to be cleared. The waitress hid in the kitchen most of the evening and just had a bad attitude and looked untidy. The food was actually superb when it finally arrived but it was tainted by the fawlty towers style service. After we ordered desserts the table behind us practically pounced on the waitress for the menu and insisted that she take his brandy order immediately at which point the whole restaurant could not help laughing at how comical it all was. The cheese board are desserts were perfect, the chef and owner came out to serve them and we all felt bad for him as clearly the food is fab but he is being massively let down by terrible front of house. His chef clothes looked grubby. Still no outright apology, we just wanted him to say sorry and accept some responsibility and say sorry its been a disaster!!. If a wine delivery hadn't arrived I would personally have popped to waitrose or morrisons to buy something to offer saturday night diners if it was my business!! the dining area decor is dated. No effort was made to enquire why we were there (for someone's bday) It was just a massive let down. We didn't pay for the Sheaf beers in the end and we were given 4 complimentary glasses of fizz.........but no apology!! Could not recommend this place based on this dining experience.

Dear guests,
We always welcome feedback from our guests, but prefer when they are actually true. Alas as everyone knows it would take a long hard legal battle with Trip Advisor to get these defamatory comments to be taken off, which a small establishment like us has neither the time nor money to get into.
We do not pretend to be perfect and accept that we make mistakes sometimes, and even in our 7 years of business had some "off" days, but not in the very "flowery " version described above. It is sad that a person who herself works in the catering industry not far away from us (yes we did recognise you!) can be so unprofessional.
We can only say to our regular and future guests, have a look at all the other reviews in the 2 sections of B&B and restaurant section from Trip Advisor under our name and the certificate of Excellence give from Trip Advisor to us and then make up your own mind. Thank you

Although it read well and we booked through another company that set high standards we were disappointed in all aspects other than the food. Our room wasn't as clean as it could have been, the restaurant was very dated and there wasn't really a bar. Just a sofa at the end of the restaurant. The staff were good however and the food very good. Wouldn't go back though.
