Attracted by good reviews on this site and have to say a bit disappointed on arrival. Pub itself is quite shabby and smells like every occupant has just been outside for a cigarette. Wouldn't have wanted to eat in the main bar because of the smell so quite glad to be ushered through a succession of corridors to the skittle alley at the back. It appears that the carvery is the only option on a Sunday lunchtime, although the website doesn't make this clear. We were late arriving (1.45pm) and there was just about enough meat for the four of us. The meal was really tasty, however - crispy roast potatoes and a good selection of vegetables. Trying to pay was a bit of a trial - no staff in the skittle alley so went through to the main bar (which was heaving with locals so they are doing lots right) and still took ages till there was anyone around to take our money. A pub this busy must be doing lots right but it wasn't really our scene.

I have been to this pub on several occasions and love it. The food is brilliant and very reasonably priced. The Sunday carvery is amazing as is the food from the menu, especially the whitebait and the garlic mushroom starters. The service is always great. Would recommend to everyone.

We booked the skittle alley for my parents 70th birthday celebration. There were 10 adults and 8 kids. We had a sit-down 3 course meal. The food was delicious - generous portions and well managed service with everything arriving hot and at the same time in spite of our different dishes. The room was welcoming with crackers and balloons (it was just after Christmas) and the service efficient and friendly!
Highly recommended! We'll be back!

Went here for a meal with some friends as we'd heard of a new chef there.
It was the best pub meal I've had in a long time!
Really good traditional pub food! Nice big portions and fantastic value for money! Not to mention the lovely staff! Will be returning again and again!

The homemade chicken liver pate was the best I've ever tasted. Perfectly cooked rare steak. My girlfriend had the garlic mushrooms with truffle toast. Will be having that next time. Will be back. Many times. This is what pub food should be like.

Family run. Friendly place. Good value for money
Nice to nip in when you have been one of the many country walks in the area.
Good choice of beers, wines and spirits.
Even do take away menu.
