Me and my wife were travelling down from London to the West Country and stumbled across this gem of an inn. We found that the rooms were modern and well equipped, the food was excellent and service outstanding and would recommend this to all my friends!

My husband and I have just returned from a 1 night stay at this wonderful place with our west highland terrier- Radley. I can honestly say our whole experience was faultless. Jane and the staff are hugely welcoming to people and dogs alike. The accommodation is rated 4 star and I believe it exceeds this grading. Our room was beautifully decorated with extra touches like generously sized Bramley toiletries which smell amazing. We chose to have dinner in the pub and enjoyed a 3 course delicious meal. I am a fussy vegetarian and did not like the options available on the dinner menu. Nothing was too much trouble for Jane and she suggested a number of other options based on adapting meat / fish courses / starters. I was extremely impressed. The food was delicious and the wine excellent. We are so impressed with this place we will be booking up soon to come back. Radley misses Mike (the resident dog) already!

We stayed at The Inn over the Easter break en route to the sea with our dog and it was an absolutely brilliant spot.

We are used to the usual wrangles of trying to find somewhere that is truly dog friendly but also a nice spot for us too - and The Inn really fit the bill.

Nestled in a beautiful old village, The Inn has been lovingly restored by the owner and her attention to detail is something else - right down to the lovely bathroom products and antique furniture. The rooms are very nicely done and we slept soundly in the comfy bed.

On top of that our dog really was welcome everywhere and made to feel at home in the snug bar downstairs where we had a very high standard of dinner (and an excellent cooked breakfast the next day too).

If you're after a romantic break in the country with a place that's peaceful but still has a little buzz in the evenings (and a meal you only need to move about two steps for), I'd highly recommend it - we will certainly be back!

Room Tip: Call ahead if you've got your hound with you - The Inn will tell you which rooms allow dogs.

£40 for b&b was an absolute steal! Beautiful, old coaching inn; delightful pub & restaurant areas. fabulous, tastefully decorated bedrooms. We had Holywell room (Holloway!). Large comfortable, quiet bed. Ensuite was superb, with ace shower.
Our meals were beautifully cooked & presented, using local products, served by friendly, helpful .staff.
Bill would have been less had we felt less comfortable in the bar and not ordered second bottle of wine!
Village itself is beautiful, on edge of (lord?) Cranborne Estate.

And all of this through booking on the day at wwww.late rooms.com on an Easter Sunday!
Dog friendly too!
Check it out!

Room Tip: Ask for Holloway room!

We stayed just 1 night, on our way home from a sporting event. The welcome was warm, with a good explanation of facilities, a table booked for supper, and assistance to call home as we had no mobile signal. Our room (Knowlton) was very clean, well appointed with an excellent bathroom and a very comfortable bed. The broadband was fast too. The bathroom's complimentary Brambly toiletries smelt beautiful.

We enjoyed a superb supper; all the food was brought in a timely manner, beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. The wines and badger beers available were all very much to our liking. Staff were attentive and friendly throughout our stay.

We left replete after a good breakfast, feeling that we could happily have stayed several more nights if the demands of everyday life weren't beckoning us home. A real treat in a beautiful rural village. Thank you and your staff for looking after us so well.

We booked in for two nights in the week for a family celebration. We were contacted by a very pleasant lady from The Inn (which turned out to be the owner) prior to arrange arrival time, but on the day, because of the closure of the M1, we were going to be late so we contacted The Inn to re-arrange our arrival, which was no problem. Parking at The Inn was plentiful, the welcome was very warm on our (eventual) arrival, our room was very clean with tasteful decoration, the bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was wonderful !!!
Definitely recommended !!

Room Tip: Our room, which was above the bar I believe, was noiseless.

We ate here six months ago and really enjoyed the meal so we were ver much looking forward to visiting again. Unfortunately, our return visit was very disappointing. I had the tomato and pepper soup which was so overwhelmed with black pepper it was ruined for me. It should have been sold as spicy tomato and red pepper soup, if it had I wouldn't have chosen it. Customers should know if a food is going to be spicy. For a main my husband chose the hake and when it was served we couldn't believe what we saw. The fish portion was so small we thought he'd been served a small child's portion. Charging nearly £16 for this one would expect to have a whole fillet not a third of it. ( A few days later we dinned in another establishment and I chose lemon sole and was served two large fillets of sole for less ). Then for dessert he chose a deconstructed tart citroen which was served on a thin flat base of pasty unfortunately, the balance of this tart was totally wrong making it a claggy rather than cleansing experience. Some parts of the meal were well prepared and well displayed but insufficient, other elements were incomplete or badly balanced. We were disappointed.
We cannot fault the front of house staff for their attentiveness and their professional attitude. The premises is warm and friendly. Unfortunately they were let down by the kitchen which provided food that was not providing value for money. The serving staff did offer to take the hake back to the kitchen and replace it but we declined as all the other meals had been served. They did provide some additional vegetables free of charge but by the time they arrived everyone had finished their meals.
We do not want to put people off coming here as we believe that this may only be a temporary lapse and they will again concentrate on providing the food and the prices which will have us and our friends returning on a regular basis as this is a lovely country pub to dine in.
