“Rude manager”
Reviewed 27 July 2013

The hotel is frequently overbooked and the manager has to relocate people to other hotels. We were never compensated for this move and it was extremely upsetting and distressing to be relocated in the middle of the night without any explanation.

The service is poor and the staff and not gracious.

I would advise that if you don't want your holiday ruined that you do not stay here.

There are also many reviews which are inconsistent with the quality of the hotel. - The ones which look to good to be true probably are!

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel , I didn't realise at the time of booking I had stayed here 18 yrs ago , during that time it has had a complete refurb and change of name, it is still a lovely hotel and the staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. We had a standard room which was clean and comfortable , we didn't have a balcony and it looked out onto a brick wall but for the short time we spent in the room this was not a problem. The breakfast I thought was excellent with a choice of cereal, yogurt, fresh fruits, croissants and pastries , cheese , cooked meats and also bacon and eggs and toast and jams. The hotel has a lovely pool area which is just around the corner and during our stay was very quiet , the only downside is that guests are not allowed to take their own water but have to buy it from the poolside bar which is rather more expensive than the local supermarket! I would definitely stay here again. Porto Petro is a lovely little resort and those seeking a little more nightlife or shopping then Cala D'or is just a short bus ride away.

Having stayed here a few years ago when it was The Nerida, we were looking forward to returning to a more updated and renovated comfortable hotel. The location is very good and although there isn't a nice beach the pool area is excellent, and the little marina is only a two min walk away. The reception staff were all friendly and most helpful ,although some were very young. Our room on first sight was lovely, all white and crisp and fresh. However we soon realised there were No bedside tables, No drawers to put our clothes and No proper wardrobe to hang anything, there was a rail over one open shelf suitable for shirts but not dresses this also held the safe The shower room was extremely small, and one bin for both bathroom and bedroom. The worst thing was the air -conditioning.....or lack of. It was controlled from reception ,when we asked to have it turned on in our room we were told it was on a timer, between the hours of 8pm and 2am.........so we just had to swelter........We did complain about this as it was sooo hot while we were there and we had made sure at the time of booking that there was air-conditioning. With a few little changes it could have been much more comfortable....we did love the pool area though......Some lovely restaurants around, nice quiet place to stay......Despite being disappointed with the room the bed was big and very comfortable

Great location and very friendly and helpful reception staff. The actual rooms are cell like and the beds are large but medieval with regards to comfort and our bedroom window opened out onto a concrete expanse. Everything is white and there is a very clear sense of branding everywhere with all the young staff clad in white clothes which gives a slightly cult like ambience. The rooms are allegedly cleaned most days but the bed linen and bin emptied in practice rather than the bathroom cleaned. The shower in the room was thankfully powerful which was lovely. The pool was pleasant but we were appalled by the fact that you weren't allowed to bring your own water to drink. Surely just water in a plastic bottle in searing heat should be permitted? Very strange, but indicative of a rather unsubtle money grabbing attitude adopted by this company. This was manifest in overpriced menus and drinks in the restaurant and pool- eg a tenner plus for a cocktail- fiver down the road etc. This is really a jumped up hostel pretending to be something that it is not as the basics are just not there to any standard. We had a lovely time in Porto Petro which is a delightful fishing village with some good restaurants and friendly bars.

Room Tip: Ask for one that doesn't face a concrete wall!

This is a fantastic little place, more a hotel than a hostel. The rooms are a nice size with big beds and lots of pillows. The bathroom has a nice finish and excellent water pressure - but make sure the shower head is pointing straight down otherwise you'll get a flood! Location is great, easy walk to restaurants, shops and bus stop. The pool area is a one or so minute walk behind the main building and had great hut/umbrellas. Staff were helpful and friendly, but the night staff spoke only a bit of english so ask your questions during the day. Everything is basic but clean, bright and spacious which makes it excellent value for what you pay.

Room Tip: Splurge that little extra for a balcony room, the view is worth it.

We luckily only stayed for one night, couldn't stay here for longer.

The good:

- The bar is well decorated with a lovely view.
- The staff seem friendly.
- The pool area was very pretty, although over the road, decorated to a high standard, quite empty and peaceful.
- The wifi has good signal, even from the pool area.
- The rooms are tastefully decorated, you can see what they are trying to do with the place but it isn't quite there, feels a bit cave-like because the walls are bare and light into the room not great.

The bad:

- The hotel has a sewer like smell.
- Workmen were drilling away which echoed through the rooms, luckily we were out for the day.
- The "sky bar" they advertise on the website doesn't actually exist. Yes they have a terrace but none of the lovely cushions and seating was up there during our stay and there is definitely no bar, only a space for one hence thinking its unfinished.
- We paid the deposit for TV and aircon but the aircon remote didn't work.
- We requested for a room overlooking the harbour but were given one that had a small window looking onto a concrete wall opposite.
- Our bathroom light stopped working during the night.
- There was no hot water from about 8pm until we left at 10.30am the next day so no shower! We told the receptionist about this and he said he was going to look into it but nothing was done. When we were leaving we said again we had no hot water and he repeated he was going to look at it then. Bit late!

Portopetro in general is nice just for a few days but I think it would get boring. Nice enough restaurants around but we were glad to be only staying one day.

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony if you are staying longer than one night.

I can't recommend this place enough. The rooms are spacious, clean and done up tastefully. The receptionist was so friendly and helpful and gave us great restaurant recommendations. The hostels location is brilliant and we enjoyed our stay thoroughly. Would highly recommend this place and would stay there again.
