“Beautiful peaceful goan hideaway”
Reviewed 25 March 2012

We stayed at Yab Yum just out of season and found it a stunning tropical oasis after the chaos of Mumbai! The location is handy, a quick ten mins scooter ride to the beach and nearby villages. The staff here are an absolute credit to Yab Yum- amazing people ready to do anything for you- really friendly and helpful and definitely made the visit a real pleasure.

The resort itself is hidden away in lush foliage and where we stayed next to the temple house we had wonderful views for miles. The accommodation is head and shoulders above most we stayed in in Goa, it has a simple boho atmosphere with mosquito net canopies and a delicious fresh breakfast of fruit/eggs in the morning. The only negative would be that at that time of year the heat was pretty stifling and air conditioning would definitely have been a bonus- the fans just weren't enough in the humid temperatures.

Overall a great place to stay in northern Goa, lovely rural tucked away resort with wonderful staff.

We were a group of seven and we stayed at the temple house. It is a beautiful, peaceful place! It was our own private house between a plantation. One thing to keep in mind is that there are lizards, frogs. A couple of people with us were uncomfortable because of that.
The staff is very warm and they made us feel at home since we reached to the time we left, taking care of the smallest things. The breakfast was of good quantity and the jams were delicious. The lunches and dinners we had there were simple yet very tasty. We also visited the Yab Yum at Ashwem and had a great time there too!

We stayed for three nights at the Jivana Plantation before moving down to the Yab Yum Beach Resort.

We were efficiently collected from the airport at 6am and delivered to the Plantation which is hidden away off a back street on a hillside. The Plantation is extremely quiet and is a mix of two person cottages and a few larger properties set in lush gardens and foliage. The cottages are very basic - there was literally only a bed (very hard but with mosquito net) and a small bedside table in the room. Two chairs were provided upon request. The bathroom is located off the bedroom and is somewhat open to the elements - having said that we did not see any wildlife in there during the three nights with the exception of a few mosquitos around sunset.

Breakfast was basic but tasty - toast with homemade jams, a simple fruit salad and tea or coffee.

There is not a great deal to do at Jivana - fortunately the beach is only a fifteen minutes taxi ride away.

Ideally we wanted to stay at Yab Yum Beach for the whole duration but there was not the availability hence the three nights at Jivana - we found that a lot of time was spent in taxis - going to the beach in the morning and back at sunset and, as there is only a very basic supper provided at Jivana, back out for supper once cleaned up in the evening - which got a little tiresome.

There is nothing to necessarily fault with Jivana however if you are visiting Goa for beach-time it is not the most ideal location.

We stayed at Yabyum for four nights after a hectic touring schedule around Rajasthan. Pick up from the airport although efficient caused some confusion as the guys with the placards were not Yabyum staff but locals who were harassing for inflated tips as usual. Airport transfer comfortable and friendly. The accommodation was pretty much as described and as shown on the web but as an 'older' couple we did find it rather basic and without much comfort and no place to really relax in, but maybe we were expecting too much. The daytime snack menu was excellent and good value and the evening meal (pre-ordered only) was OK but nothing special. Bar service was erratic both during the day and the evening and usually involved walking to the office and asking for bar service in the sitting/bar area. Even with evening meal there was no automatic service which was a bit of a pain. The beach was superb (usual constant hassles from the local shawl and textile sellers) and fairly empty.

My major gripe was that on two of the four nights we were there there was no water - hot or cold - when coming off the beach. Different excuses were proffered each night and one got the feeling that they had several excuses which they used in rotation although this may be unfair. Waiting a couple of hours for a small trickle of hot water after a day out was frustrating and did make for a negative experience. Also one of the reasons we chose Yabyum was the excellent reputation of the nearby 'Plage' restaurant, which we discovered was closed until mid-November so eating out involved taxi rides to nearby Arambon. Breakfasts were excellent with fresh juice, cereals, choice of eggs etc; difficult to fault. The masseur was excellent and probably one of the best whole body massages that we have experienced.

Overall probably a place for the younger element prepared to take the rough with the smooth in a fairly remote environment

This is the right place for relaxing away from everything.
We stayed three nights in the garden house because the yabyum beach resort was fully booked. It has two rooms and a big open air bathroom.
At night you hear all kind of sounds from the forest and lots of animals come close (mostly mosquitos).
Although they dont have a restaurant the buffet breakfast is complete with fresh fruit, homemade jams, freshly made juices, etc.
For dinner you can order typical food in advance, which is also prepared with great care and very tasty.
If you get bored or just want to go to the beach or market you need a taxi or scooter. The beach is 10min away and it's clean but a bit crowded sometimes, with sellers or dogs bothering every 30min.
I don't think it is worth to go to north Goa just to stay there, but it could be combined with other places.
