“Different and a nice place.”
Reviewed 11 November 2013

Visited in the end of October, and stayed in the house.
On the Tripadviser search it popped up as it was beginning to be fully booked.
When arrived we noticed that we were almost the only guest there. Bungalows were still packed in plastic after the rain season. The tents were not up. And some of the rooms in the house were occupied by employees.
We were a little disappointed that it really wasn’t opened yet. I think it should have said so on the booking site. We felt a little disappointed by this. The menu was either not up running in the beginning. (So we ended up trying out many of the surrounding places to eat, with success)
They were service minded and happy. But they had a lot to work with before opening for the season. So we felt a little like we were there for them (beginning to get in money), not that they were there for us, as it should be...
Since early in season we were allowed to use short walkway, and walk bridge, down to beach. In season there will be a little longer walk by the road down to beach. (But scooter rental are very cheap for European standard)

And to the positive:
After all a very nice place. The setting sure is different from other hotels around, in a good way.
Quiet surroundings and not any neighboring facilities cramped up against the area.
The room had a good standard. A small food menu was started up after a few days. And it seems to become a really nice place for eating in season.
Yoga tent was not up yet, but was no problem, and they had a private yoga lesson for us.
They were service minded when they had time. And fixed scooter delivery at hotel, and so on.
I’m sure that after the season opening it would be a really nice place worth staying for.
And that it would be more close to one star up.

We were welcomed at the door by Angus on our late arrival who made us feel completely at home, showing us our rooms, cooking us dinner and pouring us a chilled beverage.

The Mandala is a unique slice of heaven. We loved hanging out on our balcony, sunning ourselves on the lounge,
eating the homecooked meals, walking five minutes to the beach or cruising down to the garden/restaurant where the staff tended to our needs.

The place is full of mindful art and splashes of colour and Angus always had a tasteful repitore of tunes playing.

Thank you for a blissful time!

I had the pleasure of staying here recently. We originally booked for 3 days, but loved it so much we stayed another night. This place is beautifully designed, the facilities are amazing, it's really close to beautiful mandrem beach and lots of fabulous restaurants. The host Angus was brilliant. So welcoming, played fantastic music all the time and great advice about the region. The relaxed and welcoming atmosphere was the best feature. Really has to be seen to be believed! I will be back.

Most likely if you stay at the Mandala for 3 nights will be fine, I stayed for 1 month there due to a yoga course. The place is amazing, however the location is not convenient if you need to go to the nearest supermarket it will take 30 minutes (while the people there will tell you 10 minutes walk) and after sun set it is not recommended to walk there same will be for the beach. We were able to talk with the neighbor hotel ASHYANA to let us use their short cut (10 minutes walk at max) while they don’t really welcome Mandala guests whatever the reason is.
The owner of the Manadala is a very nice person, amazing cook, creative in his cooking for lunch & dinner, for the breakfast we had the same food for 31 days!!!! Masala chai has no taste at all!!!
As we stayed that long we could get in touch with all the problems going on, the owner is not a good people manager most of the staff left in 2 days and for 1 day there was no food, no water to drink. And his assistant whom we gave Mr. Arrogant as a nickname was helpless….he treats you as if he is doing us a favor having us as guests there!! One day was a huge power cut after that internet was not working for 3 days and whenever we ask him he will answer all area has no internet, which was not true as internet was working all over around except in Mandala. By mistake he informed that all payment is done so internet will be working again, oh so it was not power issue but financial issues. I was requested to pay rest of my payments as they need to do payments so obviously there are not able to run the place. And above he requested to pay for the food for the all stay I refused as I was not eating there daily except breakfast as after the staff left there was no menu only what is cooked apart from it was yummy but the feeling I am forced to eat what is available only and having no choice was not so pleasant.
Meals and room prices are by far overpriced for the quality you are getting. The landscape can be really taking care of as mentioned it is an amazing place, but they simply don’t know how to manage it and they change their commitments. Should my path take me to Mandrem again I will not stay there!!

Staying at the Mandala was a truly magical experience.

What makes the Mandala so special is that you can feel it is built with love and every inch of it shows that.

The energy of the whole place is unlike anywhere I have stayed before.

The yoga class was the best class I have ever been a part of.

Whether you are are looking for a space to relax or be inspired, you will find what you are looking for here.

Room Tip: Highly recommend the chalet rooms.

What a fabulous little haven, tucked away down a small road backing onto the beautifully natural Mandrem beach and hidden among lush groves and surrounded by a river, home to an incredible variety of birds and other wildlife. This is really a remarkable spot and we had 2 amazing yoga retreats with very happy participants. The staff were super friendly and incredibly attentive. Thanks BJ and Ram and the whole kitchen for ensuring we were looked after 24/7:)

There was a marvelous energy in this place, and the shala which backed onto the lake and river was an amazing setting for our yoga classes. The surrounding noises of the kingfisher, monkeys and other birds, was a delight to mediate to and their energy inspired us to really connect to nature in our practice.

This place is one in a million, the love and care that has gone into developing such a personalized resort is constantly evident, and I will be booking all my future retreats in Goa here.......dont miss this place.

Room Tip: All rooms are super, and very good value for money, clean, no insects, no other natural small pests...

We stayed only three nights, wished it could've been longer but we had an itinerary to stick to, you know how it is. Anyway, the staff was incredible but Vijay stood out as a superb element of this well run establishment. He will stop at nothing to make sure you have everything you need, he is patient, courteous, and always smiling. Don't miss this place, it's a gem!!
