My husband and I have just spent three nights at Matakana Castle and thoroughly enjoyed the privacy, luxury and romantic art deco setting. The location is perfect for day trips down to the local wineries and beaches. John and Natalie were such warm approachable hosts and made us feel welcome and comfortable during our entire stay. As first timers in the area, we appreciated their knowledge of places to dine and local attractions, and especially a suggestion for a low key date down at the boutique cinemas.
The accommodation is beautifully presented, super clean and immaculate throughout. We stayed in the Garden Room which took in amazing views of the sea and landscape, and spent most afternoons snoozing on the comfy super king bed before venturing out to the toasty warm fire in the Guest Room. Loved their selection of magazines and cd collection ~ was a trip down memory lane while relaxing on the sofa enjoying delicious local wine and nibbles prepared by Nat.
Our hosts treated us each morning to a decadent, generous two course breakfast, which menu changed daily - and included the most scrumptious muesli ever tasted, that was created by Nat herself!!
All in all, the entire experience was stress free, from booking our accommodation to leisurely checking out.
For a relaxing escape either for two ~ or with friends, Matakana Castle ticks all the boxes and we recommend it to anyone looking for accommodation in this area.
