“Proper camping”
Reviewed 15 August 2014

Excellent place for proper camping, no phone signal or internet, you can camp right in the woods.
I went with my fiancé and two boys had an amazing time with log fires and toasted marshmallows
There is a little shop on site or a spar 10 minutes down the road or if really needed grave send is 20 minutes down the road and has everything you could need.
Compost toilets are brilliant as are the showers.
There's water on site but it's not for drinking, bottles of water available in the site shop, there is washing up facilities onside and a massive rope swing which is great fun even for the adults.

Highly recommended to anyone, the owners are more than helpful with any question you have.

We had 2 nights here Thursday and Friday right at the start of the summer holidays. As it was only our 2nd time camping it was a bit weird at first trying to find a "pitch" in amongst the woods and everywhere we looked the ground was uneven and stony and nowhere looked big enough for our (5 berth) tent but we managed to find a little clearing to call our own and we set up. I was beginning to regret not bringing the tarpaulin that we had left behind at the last minute as the ground is quite lumpy and bumpy but we know for next time!
Thursday evening was glorious sitting in the peace and tranquility of the woods just listening to birds singing and cooking marshmallows over the open fire, with a nice glass of wine and a good book.
On Friday we enjoyed lovely walks around the woods and around the north downs with the dog and when we got back to camp it was as if a primary school had descended upon the woods, there were tents, cars and kids everywhere! This was not a major problem although it was a bit less peaceful than the previous day, and I was a bit disappointed that people were talking loudly after the 10pm "curfew" as one of the reasons we had picked this site was that it claimed that the owners went around at 10pm to make sure people were not disturbing their neighbours. Having said that when my husband went to the tent where people were having a very loud conversation at 11pm and politely pointed out that they were a bit noisy they were extremely good and kept the noise down after that.
It's a great place for families, safe for the children to play and just have fun running around in the woods. As a slightly older couple without kids then we would probably not do our next visit during the school holidays :) however it is great place to camp, it's fab to be able to have a camp fire and sit out among the trees and with the weekend being so hot it was nice to have the shade. The composing toilets were excellent (nicer to use than the festival loos) and the showers were fab on morning one, didn't bother queuing on the 2nd morning as we were going home but they were obviously a lot busier than the previous day.
If you like your campsites with formal, neatly mown pitches and lots of "entertainment" then this is probably not for you, but if you like getting away from it all and getting back to nature then it is great, although prob best to avoid school holidays if you don't like it too busy.

Room Tip: We struggled to find "pitches" but there were at least 50 if not 100 more tents the next d...

We went to Badgells Woods back in May with my two children and my sister in law and her partner. It was a brilliant experience. We arrived and was greeted by the owner who was able to show us a map of where we were able to pitch as we had two tents close together. They also advised my three year old where the sweeties and chocolates where. The place had a very welcoming atmosphere. We managed to find the perfect pitch and set up for the weekend. The toilets were just portaloos when we arrived were very clean and always stocked with toilet roll. We didn't use the showers but they were some on site. We are a young family so the fact we didn't feel uncomfortable when our one year old was crying at night was a bonus. As dogs are welcome on the site we took our puppy. We were able to find a long rope which was left and we attached it to her lead so she was able to roam. We used the camp fires both night as the weather was extremely cold. We brought two bags of wood for the fire. one bag lasted each night. One of the bags the wood was a bit wet so didn't light which was a shame. I would certainly recommend to a friends.

Took trailer tent with wife 3 kids and separate tents for mum dad and my cousin and his better half.

One if the best weekends I have had in a long time. A real off grid and back to nature experience and only 40 or so minutes away from London.

Build fires and cooked on the bbq with a few beers whilst the kids explored the nearby woodland and could be heard laughing and playing.

We will be back again later in the summer without a doubt.

We were greeted by a warm welcome and then shown our recommended pitch (we have quite a high pitched tent so needed a larger site). We were close to the Stag Pitch, to the left, next to a big tree, which I thoroughly recommend . With only glimpses of other tents in site, we felt secluded and yet only a minute away from the portaloos and 2 mins from the shower block and tree swing.

The children loved exploring the woods and playing 'find the Sylvanian family' amongst the moss covered tree trunks. My eldest (6 yrs) enjoyed the bracelet making activity but I think she was only just suitable, as it was a quite a tricky technique.

The shop saved the day by providing mosquito repellent, tent pegs and bottled water! And, after forgetting to pack saucepans, the owner lent us some of hers! Very kind and helpful staff, clean and well equipped facilities, but still very much an authentic woodland campsite. Will definitely go again!

A great camp site - ok to have dogs and camp fires and being in woods quite secluded from your fellow campers ! My only negative is the toilets but this is being addressed as new loos are being built. Due to its location - very near London - I suspect once word gets around this site will become busy.....however there are 250 acres to find your own secluded spot
