Me and my boyfriend stayed here for 5 days in February and loved every minute of it!! The staff were extremely friendly from start to finish. On several occassions we asked for some information about the area such as where we could go to eat etc and the staff were so knowledgable and helpful. The lodge was absoloutley gorgeous- I didn't want to leave and we spent several nights snuggled up watching DVDS on the sofa! I would definately recommend walking 2 minutes down the road to the Tehidy Woods- this is 9 miles of woodland and has a lake in the middle of it and its lovely for a nice walk! We followed a route which took you through the woods and out onto the costal path which finished on Portreath beach and it was brilliant- finished off nicely by a cornish pasty from the local bakery! Gwel an Mor is in a great location for accessing Newquay, Lands End, St Ives and Penzance which are all great to visit if you can manage to get yourself out of the cosy lodge! We couldn't have wished for anything more it was a perfect holiday =)

We went to Gwel an Mor once again this February for a half term break. Every time we visit the resort we always have a fantastic time - the staff are very friendly and helpful, cleaniness in the lodge is always excellent and brilliant surroundings.

I am not quite sure about the comments made by 'LondonAnorak', we did not have any problems getting in the pool and there were certainly more than 18 people allowed in there. Also the woodburner guard can be removed - we just unhooked it from the wall when not in use.

The restaurant is excellent and we spent a lot of time eating and drinking in the bar. Although the lodges are fully equipped for self catering, we would recommend the food available on site if you don't want to cook.

The lodges are well worth the money and we will keep going back.

Booked a 4 night break here for Feb half term, decided on a VIP lodge with personal hot tub (no 58) and woodburner. Staff on arrival very friendly and efficient, showed us to lodge, told us to avoid the 4.30 - 6.30pm slot in the pool as that was the busy time (I guess she staggered the times when telling the arrivals that day). The lodge was very nice, nice furnishing's etc but only what I would expect from a five star resort - nothing more, nothing less. Flat screen TV was really dirty as was hob but nothing a quick wipe down did'nt sort out. View from our lodge was wonderful and the resort itself was very clean and well laid out. Did'nt have time to use spa or restaurant and bar was a bit too small to just have a drink but the visitor book showed great reviews of the on-site food. I wish the website had pointed out two things 1) that only 18 people are allowed in the pool at one time, we, along with many other families, spent each night sat in reception waiting for people to come out so we could go in. You can't book but you can ring reception to find out if the pool is full and they'll ring you back when there is a space, however, we did this one night and after an hour of the kids sat on the edge of the sofa with their towels in their hands we decided to walk up to be told by reception that she had lost the list! we only got a half hour swim that night. Children don't really do waiting and if the pool is a big part of you holiday then you really need to be aware of this "system". 2) Also be aware that the cosy woodburner is surrounded by a very large fixed cage which is ugly to say the least and is no doubt a health and safety requirement - it does'nt look like it does on the virtual tour on the website. Have'nt been to Portreath before not much to say about it really, it's not St Ives! Had a lovely few days with the family but would not return, particularly in season, until pool situation is resolved.

will keep it short as other have told much about it.... it is gud place to stay n spend quality time with ur family or frnds.. i went with my frnd on xmas (25th Dec to 28th dec)... we travelled all the way from Ipswich to resort by Car. so 25th complete day we spend in travelling.. but on our way to Cornwall we also visited Bath and Stonehedge. In bath we spend 1 hour only taking some pics as everything else was close due to xmas.

i have booked one of the M3 Lodge.

we reached resort at around 9PM, as reception remain open tll 7pm only they have left key on reception door.. so no probs if u get late... as soon as we enter in our lodge it was all together a diff exp for us.... everyone liked it very much, it was very much clean, kitchen was fully equipped. there is one complementry wine bottle for us. xmas tree was also decorated for us and a xmas card for us from hotle staf. everything was perfect.

next two days we spend roming around... we coverd St Ives beach, land's End, Eden Project, Minik theater... there is very beautiful drive along St Ives bay... ask on reception they will guide.

both days we cam back to lodge by 6pm, resort has it own Swimming pool, Steam n Sona Bath... so njoy them n get relex..

so in end it was a gr8 holiday for me and my frnds. i wud like to thank Gwel an Mor for making it a memorble one.

ya one thing when i check lodge tariff on lastminute.com it was £581... but when i enquire directly with resort thwy quated me £610 after offering me £50 offsession discount. but when told them that same lodge is available for £581 on lastminute they offered me same deal... so wud suggest that before booking cross check the tariff.

Having searched and searched for a cosy cornish cottage for our wedding anniversary and not finding exactly what we wanted, we fell on the Gwel an Mor and booked the day before we travelled.

Check in was swift and we were made to feel welcome by everyone on reception. The lady who took us to our villa was like a long lost friend!

We stayed in a 3 bed detached villa (decided we wouldn't use an outdoor hot tub in December!) and it was beautiful. All very clean and modern and felt like home from the minute we stepped into it. It gave us the cosy warm comfort that we wanted for a long weekend away!
The villa was well equipped and comfortable - we loved that we had little touches like games, fairy liquid, a couple of dishwasher tablets and a tea towel to keep us going! (Ooh and more importantly a bottle of chilled wine!)

The onsite restaurant "Terrace" was excellent - very friendly, conscientious service, excellent food, nice surroundings and great value for money. You could eat in or order a takeaway, which we liked. One thing we would have liked forewarning of was that they were fully booked with Christmas parties on the Saturday evening, so not wanting a takeaway, we were forced to eat out, which we did in Portreath (local village).

On first arriving in Portreath, we were a little dubious about it, but then it was mid winter and I'm sure takes on a very different feel in the summer! The village was quiet, with a lovely beach and quite a few pubs where you can eat.
I can't remember the name of the pub we ate in (a lovely building with a car park on the front and a B&B - on the main road!). The food was good value, tasty and again the service second to none.

We didn't fancy navigating our way to the village on foot at night (10 minutes downhill there, 20 minutes uphill back by torchlight!), but a nice walk during the day or a 5 minute drive.

We used the pool / steam / sauna - great, small, quiet, clean (no under 16's allowed in jacuzzi or pool - even better!). Gym was small but adequte for a workout.

We found the location was EXCELLENT for getting out and about, with easy access to the A30 and some STUNNING, quite taxing walks in the area. (Finish it off with a nice hot cup of tea at the cafe on the beach!)

St Ives is a must, but park at St Erth train station and go in by rail for a 15 minute, beautiful secnic ride (£4pp). This also saves trying to park in St Ives.

We also visted Perranporth for old times sake, 15 minutes away and the beach still reamins the same as I remember it as a child.

Newquay is another 15 minutes or so up the road from Perranporth for a lively night out and Padstow, which we loved as much as St Ives as a typical cornish village. (My sister has since told me that I should have sampled the fish and chips from Rick Stein's - damn - maybe next time!).

All in all a great getaway! Booked through Lastminute.com the day before. Hoseasons Online couldn't take the booking as it was too late and to book direct with the property would have cost us £50 more...(disappointing to have to book 3rd party Mr/s Manager...??!!).

Highly recommended and fantastic value for money for 5* accommodation and service.

  • Liked — The peace & quiet and being left alone to enjoy our break
  • Disliked — The intermittent sound of water running through the pipes in the middle of the night...
