“Nice hotel for famillies”
Reviewed 7 November 2011

Went with my wife and 2 kids, aged 3 and 6. Although we went at the end of September, it was still rather warm, about 33-34 degrees centigrade, the first week.

The pools were quite nice, with sloping bottoms, which is nice for small children. The only drawback was that the pools were a bit cold, more than you would have expected when the sun was beaming down. The sea felt warm in comparison.

We chose the All Inclusive (first time with AI) option, and the selection of drinks were quite good, but the snacks were too much limited in variety (hot dogs, fries, sandwich) and time (a few hours before and after lunch) to be top notch.

Breakfast was good, with plenty to choose from (although I missed "real" orange juice). The lunch and dinner buffets were plentiful, although a bit repetitive. The interior in the buffet restaurant was more like a canteen than a regular restaurant, which is somewhat displeasing. Beer and red/white wine on self-serve tap was good though. Since children under 12 eat/drink free when the adults have the AI, it's still good value for the money, but I expect there are many better AI resorts when it comes to food/drinks and the general ambiance.

As far as child activities go, the selection was really good. Some activities you had to pay for, but most were free.

As a whole, the resort felt a bit too big. You really notice that the resort was once two separate hotels, now joined. If you live at Helios, it's quite some distance to the other end of the resort, for instance if you want to join some child activities at Athena.

I would recommend this hotel primarily for families with children (not so strange since that is the target audience), and the vacation as a whole was very good. The hotel lies next to the beach and is well maintained.

Room Tip: Rooms 1761 and 1763 have stairs leading down to them from ground level. Could be bothersome if you h...

You can easily stay at Sunwing Resort as a couple, you just have to remember to take 1 to 2 days to get away from the pool area at the hotel, as there sometimes can be very noisy.
We lived in Athena the main building and we did not have all-inclusive, because we enjoy going out to try the local specialties.
All-inclusive was buffe at the resort restaurant. There are two other restaurants at the hotel that is not all-inclusive.
Restaurant Virginia, belonging to the hotel with the same name, makes delicious food and at much better prices than those at the resort. Try it.
The cleaning of the room was very good, there were two days a week where the room didn’t get cleaned, the beds didn’t prepared and the towels weren’t change in the bathroom. Pool towels were changed at a small cost.
The beds are of good quality, unfortunately not a double bed but two single beds that were put together - not practical.
Much of the entertainment for children was unfortunately in Swedish. Although we do not even have kids, but you could see that those children who did not speak Swedish, did not think it was just so funny. Pool aerobics something you have to try, it is very entertaining.
The beach is a pebble beach, so we used the pool area instead. There was plenty of fish to see so if you like to snorkel. You don’t have to go far from the shore to see them.
We were at the adult pool to start with, but there was too much noise, so we move to the kids pool the noise / yelling was not at the same level. Do you have a lounger where the sun is the longest time, it is important to get down early with your towel as a reservation.
If you have time you must rent a car at the Sunwing Resort and drive around the island. It's super exciting and you experience more on your own. It is very easy to get round Rhodes if you stick to the main road otherwise, many road signs are in English. When you're on tour, try to stop at some of the small towns - people are friendly and the atmosphere is really good.
Places you must visit: Surfers Paradise, the old town (Rhodes), 7 springs and go through the tunnel.
Places you must trade: When you come out to the main entrance to Sunwing Resort and with the resort at your back, turn right and go approximately 1, 5 km. along the main road, there are supermarkets where goods are cheaper and selection is much larger than the mini market at the resort.
Nice restaurant near the hotel: Virginia is located just up the hill to the beach at the resort.
Good restaurants in Rhodes town: Red is located in Rhodes town next to the Casino of Rhodes and in the same street is also restaurant Victoria. Try them you would regret it.

Can it be to much?

No of course not, if you pay for it. Its a fantastic hotel with the beach (with small stones) restaurants, tavern, swimming pools, all the arrangements etc etc, but hey you have to pay. The hotel is near the Rhodes Town and I thing its a great break from the swimming pool.
This leisure facilities is made for families, that wants it all and of course they have all inclusive.
So if you want it all its great.
Clean, greate location etc etc etc

This is a larger Sunwing than some of the others I have visited, but it is nevertheless very pleasant and activities are placed over a large area so it doesn’t feel too crowded. It is a great family hotel! Every detail is thought of, from the shaded baby pools and children's activities with lollo and bernie to evening shows, restaurants and menus adapted for children. Nothing that can cause problems, everything goes easily and smoothly, the kids are happy and parents can "relax". The restaurant La Tasca is fabulously located overlooking the Mediterranean Sea but you get tired of the menus pretty fast, luckily they have good beer and wine :-) Rooms are pretty basic but very functional and comfortable, all very clean and tidy. Beds and pillows are great, you sleep like a baby!

An ideal holiday destination for family fun, but for everyone else Sunwing can probably get a bit too noisy, at least during high season.

Very nice hotel, excellent food even in the all incl. part, VERY patient staff in the restaurant but unfortunately not enough space and big enough swimming pools in high season when all kids wanna be in the pool area. This is perfect for the kids though and for parents wanting to enjoy holiday because the kids are having a nice time. Also a small motor arena for the kids just outside the main entrance with electric gocarts etc was a hit after dinner. All in all this must be a perfect spot in low season, but avoid in high season.

Me and my husband, to kids both age 13 stayed there for a week in may. Lovely apartment, clean and nice, plenty of lovely pools and a nice beach. We had all inclusive, but it did not work for us. Same food and drinks for lunch and dinner, so if you dont want too drink rosewine all the time : stay away.. The meals was in a big dining room with lot of noisy people and plenty of kids.. that is not my idea of a romatic evening. In the evening there was a show, but the hotel was " right in the middel of nowhere " so we were stuck on the hotel and after som days that was quite boring..The kids had a great time, but the adults missed the grecce feeling, we feelt we could be enywere in the world. But if you have small kids and dont want to walk around, this is a great place

Me and my husband stayed here for two weeks with our daughter, aged 7, and son, aged 1 at the time. We booked a "Happy Baby" room which had some extras for our little one. Our room had a terrace facing the pool area.

Rooms clean but need some freshening up. Very basic and not totally what you would expect at a 4-star resort.

Great shows and activities for children. Very nice breakfast, but the other food is not worth getting excited over.

Nothing really within walking distance; a couple of souvenir shops and a smaller supermarket.

Nice pool area for all ages, and a few steps down the hill is the beach. Fantastic!

Staff is helpful but not exactly over-friendly and had charged our room bill for meals that had already been paid for in cash. When pointing this out, they didn't apologize at all - in fact, they muttered over the extra paperwork it caused.
