My wife and I stayed at this hotel at the end of April/beginning of May 2013. It wa our first time in this hotel, although we did stay in the area some ten years ago. We stayed as all-inclusive guests although the Hotel does cater for other choices of accomodation.

The Hotel is very well appointed, being clean and well decorated. It occupies a good position 6Km. from Rhodes town and 4Km. from Falaraki. The reception area is impressive and spacious with comfortable seating areas and splendid views over the pool and beyond to the sea and the skyline of Rhodes Harbour and Town.

When we arrived, having bookesd a “promo” room through Teletext we were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded, immediately, to a room with a sea view for which there is normally a supplement. Ourselves and our baggae were quickly and smoothly transferred by electric car to our room. The room was loveley with a nice balcony and the promised sea view across some of the Hotel's pools and gardens. The adjoining villas had small private heated pools to their rear. The room was spacious with adequate space in drawers and cupboards and was furnished with two single divans in double-bed formation as well as a setee and stool. There was a safe (free of charge) and a mini bar. The bath was also a jacuzzi with a shower (part of the upgrade).

The pool areas were spotlessly clean and with plenty of sunbeds (free) with parasols. The parasols are fixed in the ground and so a great deal of manouvering of the sunbeds is required if shade is important. This proved a bit inconvenient so we moved after the first day to the terraces. These provide a remarkable tranquility and relaxation. We spent most of our time there during the day.

The various parts of the hotel are reasonably accessible although there are many steps and ramps. If you take the time to study the layout it is possible to minimise the climbing by using lifts and sloping pathways.

There is a charming secluded beach with sunbeds and umbrellas but the only way to and from it is by steps from the hotel grounds. The beach is partly rocks and some shingle with access to the sea in a small cove.

The restaurant is spacious and comfortable with seating outside if required. The food was good and well prepared but, unfortunately, even when we arrived as soon as the restaurant opened the food was never hot always tepid. Breakfast provided a good range of food; bacon, eggs, sausages (not english),continental fayre, salads and bread.
Again, though, the cooked food was barely warm. At lunch and dinner there was a reasonable variety of food with chicken, veal, fish and salads. We were surprised that on most occasions there were only chips and usually no other form of potato was on offer although there was a great variety of other cooked vegatables to choose from.

The range of drinks both alcholic and non alcholic was excellent and included with the all inclusive package. (branded names like genuine Baileys and Metaxa were available).

The service was excellent but there were clearly not enough staff ,especially at peak times and in the evenings. This made for some frustration and long waiting times for sevice. It was Holy week and just at the beginning of the season. Nevertheless in this respect the hotel fell short of what might be expected of a five star rating. The mini bar was never stocked and we had to remember to take bottled water to our room each day. The managers were conspicuous by their absense.

The entertainment was mostly disappointing. On quite a few evenings the advertised programme was not provided. There was one singer live for a couple of hours on one evening. The standard universal mini disco did take place each evening and was well organised and vibrant.

The most disorganised feature of the service was the free WiFi. It was so intermittent as to be totally useless. Internet access was rarely possibly and for a few minutes, sometimes seconds, only. The IT personell seemed totally unable to put this right. It was possible to access the internet in the room by ethernet cable and a laptop, and we informed that the sister hotel adjacent also had free wifi for the use of guests at this hotel.

Transport around the area was provided by taxi, bus,or hire car. A telling piece of information in the hotel brochure advised “ Bus times are subject to frequent changes without notice.” Taxis often encourage sharing. Four passengers can often pay each the eqivalent of the bus fare if they are willing to share a taxi. Local bus tend to fill up very quickly and I observed at each stop on the way into Rhodes Town there were waiting enough passengers to fill the bus and more.

Overall this was a good experience, good enough to encourage us to seriously consider rebooking at some future date. A very good hotel in need of some tweaking

Room Tip: Pay a little more for a private pool or sea view.

Postive:
- spatious rooms
- great view
- clean rooms and nice pools
- nice environment (very green - nice gardens)
- friendlyness of the bar staff
- good quality of local bevareges for this all-inclusive hotel

Negative:
- responsiveness of the reception (e.g. we booked the hotel with airconditioning, on 2 different occasions we received 2 different reasons why the airconditioning was 'broken' - after 2 interventions of the travelagency, the airco was... switched on)
- food not kept hot enough at the buffet (sometimes just cold - also at the theme restaurant)
- extremely bad WiFi
- reception did not ask any feedback on our stay at checkout
- quite distant from city centers (Rhodos-city reachable by public transport for ~ €2.20 - 15 minutes drive)
- at the end of the service, the restaurants had the tendancy not to keep the buffet filled and put the breakfast for next day ready (i.e. you have the feeling you are not the same customer if you're eating in the beginning or at the end of the shift).
- the hotel runs out of hot water in the evening (shameful for a 5* hotel!)
- at the gym: most of the devices were dead or not working

Acceptable:
- good food but not top class
- don't understand why music need to be played at swimming pools (would prefer to have some quite holidays)
- some evenings long queues to get a table assigned

Room Tip: The travelagency offered a room with sea view at an extra charge... we did not take this option. I...

We stayed at the Kresetn Royal in the first week of May 2013, we had a superior double room with a sea view and were on the all inclusive package. The hotel sits right on the coast below its 4 star sister hotel the Kresten Palace and can be seen on google maps here:
https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?ll=36.391704,28.241478&spn=0.002824,0.005681&t=h&z=18

All staff were very good and very pleasant, on arrival reception staff offered us food before we were shown to our room which was nice. Bar staff are all very good and polite, in our weeks stay I hardly saw a cocktail maker have more than a minuets break when they were on duty so how they kept smiling i do not know. Restaurant staff were all very good, although it is a help yourself affair so they were mainly drinks servers and table re-setters, good service all the same. Cleaning staff were brilliant, you hardly saw them and the place was spotless.

There are 3 pools to use, one small one which is about 10m long, one medium sized round pool about 30m wide with a bar inside it and the long main pool which is about 75m long. They were all very clean and the main pool had the daytime snacks and bar area along side it.

The food was good quality food with enough selection to save you getting too bored and no limit to how much you had. I would recommend getting to your meals earlier as a 9am or 9pm arrival may mean a 15 minuet wait to be seated. There are plenty of different options to have for all meals and considering we ate at the hotel every morning and evening we hardly got bored with the selection. You are allowed 1 night in the greek restaurant and one night in the itallian with your stay, I would advise to eat at the main restaurant over the greek night but go for the itallian as its a nice meal. That is apart from the wine as there is no option to purchase a nice bottle to go with your meal you have to stick to the house drinks. The all day snacks are good with fruit, chips, pasta and other bits munch on with no limit to how much you ate. We didnt have lunch at the hotel as we were out every day (7 days of sunny blue skys) so cant comment on that but im sure it would have been as fresh, tasty and enough selections as breakfast and dinner.

Drinks are on tap all day until midnight, with your evening meal they only allow you 2 drinks but that is no problem as you can find a bar afterwards. The red wine is very poor the white and sparkling is ok, the beer is good. The cocktails are very nice and you have a large selection to chose from. Non alcoholic soft drinks and coffee are nice too but the tea is no good.

Our room was really nice and overlooked the small pool with views of the sea to the right and of old town to the left. The bathroom was big with a jacuzzi bath and shower, there was enough hanging space, the room itself was big and airy and so was the balcony. The TV was flatscreen HD but had no UK channels apart from bbc world service. The bed was 2 singles pushed together which wasnt ideal and when i called to ask for an iron I was told there was laundry service which had a price list, so as I didnt wear a shirt all week.

The location of the hotel was good for us. Its in between Old town Rhodes and Faliraki, as mentioned its based right on the coast so there are plenty of fresh breezes to keep you cool while lazing beside the pool and there is a parade of shops close by if you need to rent a car/moped or fancy a stroll. There is a bus stop on the main road above the hotel and also a taxi rank there if you get bored of waiting for the bus, both forms of transport seemed cheep enough (9 Euros taxi ride into Old Rhodes).

We opted for the rental option and hired a moped, 5 days for 60 Euros (first moped rental shop down the hill from the bus stop), this was great fun and it gave freedom to explore the island. Rhodes drivers are all very calm and in no hurry so we felt safe driving here. A moped is not for all though so there is a car rental place just down from there, Kalithea Cars, (we were recommended here by ex pats on our flight). There was also a car rental desk at the hotel, so it might be worth comparing prices.

The only problem with the hotel that we found was the wireless internet connection, this was terrible and after an initially connecting for 2 mins we could not use the connection for the rest of our stay. This was nice at first but when it then came to planning days out or sending a photo or two to facebook it was slightly frustrating.

All in all I would rate this as more of a 4 star hotel rather than a 5 star but I would recommend it if you are looking for a nice relaxing stay on Rhodes.

l stayed here, 18th April (1 week) and this hotel takes some beating ! My room blew me away ! ..lt wasnt a room, but a suite ! The dining room buffet selection was sumptious and elegant. Every single member of staff made you feel special, and nothing was too much trouble. Having owned two restaurants in uk, unfortunately l spot everything (which so many times, can have it's drawbacks!) But The Kresten Royal certainly ticked all the boxes for me !

Room Tip: l had booked through Travel Zoo, and was only expecting a basic room, so it was a complete surprise...

I travelled on an all-included package with CAP UNIVERS. They have an elusive booth at the airport where you will get your hotel voucher, just by the exit door where you'll need to queue upon arrival. The staff talks minimum to clients and maximum amongst themselves. On your first day at the hotel they’ll make you loose precious time for a supposedly important information session that starts late, is condescending and irrelevant. Skip it: it is all on the hotel-welcoming brochure and flight information will be put up 2 days before you leave (it will not tell you the true departure time anyway, just when you are expected to start waiting for a late bus). Ignore their proposed excursions, which can cost 10x more what you can easily do at your own convenience, on public transportation (which works fine). Car rental also cheaper just down the road (10mins walk) than at the hotel booth.
Kresten Royal is simply not a 5* hotel, as you will suspect when you have to start queuing to be marked with plastic bracelets upon arrival. There is an attempt to include little luxuries that would help Kresten aspire to 5*, but it fails miserably when neglecting essentials. Such as: bathroom towels, 2 chairs on the double room’s balcony instead of 1, a working TV (and its remote control!), room service that includes washed coffee cups and clean floor, a reception that answers the phone, a working safe, bathrobe and slippers, hot water, wi-fi, a calm environment to eat and drink. Many of the facilities and services announced on the website are simply not available, as the staff by the reception will admit while rolling their eyes when you insist on coming back to complain. Some of the reception staff is simply too young, others simply unprepared to deal with paying customers that queue to complain: their dismissive behavior is often rude.
The hotel restaurant includes a hostess to point you to your table: it’s a nice touch, but the lady's smile doesn't compensate for 20mins queuing nearly every night, nor for too much fast/instant food in a menu that varies little. The high point of my meals was always the Baklavas; wish they had more of them, more often. More of the same at the "à la carte" restaurants, with the italian being a better option. The greek "restaurant" no other than the snack bar by the pool, where the tables are covered in cloth by night (wear an extra jumper for dinner, it's out in the open and it can get cold); it is a 5* embarrassment to true Greek food, which I know to be lovely. All hotel waiters are disorganised and appear over-worked, it is painful but necessary to keep nagging them. House wines (red, rosé or white) are what they taste like: cheap. Fruit juice is nor fresh, all instant.
The evening entertainment? Find it if you can! There was somebody singing popular oldies on the keyboard in a tight corner of the entrance bar, filling the whole reception area with loud noise that no doubt propagates to the rooms above. The rooms off the main building are shielded from this: you have a view to the pool and sea (no beach worth the name). You’ll need to walk north to the nearest rocky patch where you can go in the water (about 5mins away). I spotted no lifeguards. South is the sewage treatment facility, don’t! If you want to go explore that way, come up to the main road and walk along there (~3Kms away you’ll find a nice beach where the true 5* hotels are). Otherwise stick to the pools, they are ok and were not too crowded at this time of the year.
The hotel saves no spare rooms, a mistake a 5* simply cannot make. Guests in rooms with no hot water could not be offered another. On departure day we were told to vacate the room at noon (almost 12hrs before our flight… don’t expect to sleep much if you are working the following day!). We were willing to pay an extra night to keep the room, but again this was just not possible. Scarce food comfort the day you are leaving: options are reduced, the snack bar locks down 1h earlier than usual and serves less food altogether. Even the bar mysteriously runs out of drinks that day. It’s like they just cannot wait till you’re out of there!

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the sea (away from the reception main building) are quieter. No point in paying for...

Just the place if you want a little glamour and luxury! My friend and I wanted somewhere relaxing with spa facilities at the ready and everything nearby and that is exactly what we got. We went All Inclusive so the breakfasts, lunchs and dinners were all buffet style but the food was always good and fresh. Although we found the hotel didn't really cater to my friend's vegetarian catering needs. So he pretty much had fish every ,unch and dinner time or pasta.

Obviously, we went there when it was low season so the animation team wasn't really up and running and neither was the pool bar at the first pool but that wasn't a big deal. We overheard a couple talking about the resort and apparantly they had only been open a month when we arrived there so the place is quite new - which explained the couple of minor glitches we experience while staying there (i.e the hot water wasn't running for, not more than, 15 minutes at a time for a couple of days). But other than that we were quite happy with everything. I will mention tha the hotel entertainment was lacklustre, but that could have just been down to the time of year we went at.

If I could change something about the hotel, it would be their towels. Despite the fact that we would get new ones everyday, on the first day we arrived there our towels were grey and old and smelt of chlorine. Thereafter though, they were fine but were still grey as they were just really old.

You can also rent sun lounger towels - you just need to leave a deposit of 10Euros per person and you can change the towels as many times as you like while you stay there and you will get your money back upoin returning them.

Kalithea Springs is about a 20minute to half an hour walk from the hotel and it's well worth going. Absolutely beautiful and you can swim there too.

Lindos is another place to visit. If you catch the bus it take 1hr and 15mins approx to get there and it only costs 5Euros each way per person. Well worth going to and absolutely breathtaking views from the ruins and the beach is also absolutely beautiful and picturesque.

I would say that, if you can afford to, rent a car as the island is beautiful all around and, although by taxi to get to and from Rhodes Town is 11/12Euros from the hotel to the town (due to a 3Euro fee the hotel charge for calling them for you) and return to the hotel is 8 Euros, it will probably worth it if you rent a car.

Our room was also brilliant. It was directly above the bar but it was fine as the terrace door was double glazing and we had air con so that wasn't a problem.. We had an absolutely beautiful view of the sea which meant we could watch the sunrise....

It was definatley worth the money and would definatley go again....

Room Tip: Ask for a seaview room. I wouldn't advise getting the mini villas with their own private pool a...

Well when i started to read other revues a while back, i checked the prices out and decided me and the wife would have a week on the 1st of May, I was not disappointed take no notice of negative reviews by others, there are a couple of minus points but nothing bad enough to spoil your stay here i will mention them later hoping the management take the feedback onboard the Hotel cascades down a gently sloping hill to a rocky outcrop which falls gently into the crystal clear aegean sea.the main Hotel being on the top with the villas below towards the sea all within easy walking distance of each other, but there are golf buggies supplied for those who need a lift just ask the Reception. Now me and my wife stayed in the main hotel Room 149, What a lovely room it was spotless and very large more than enough for two people. Right away my wife inspects the bathroom while i make for the Balcony, which was very big and what a View of the Sea Fantastic the view made my day, anyhow my wife reports to me that the Bathroom was lovely clean and shower Jacuzzi. the room was fantastic plenty of storage a Safe which was free a Nice surprise, flat screen tv mini fridge. double bed and single couch bed, see my pics. also air conditioning. but most of all Very clean, the Cleaners never stop and are brilliant and polite and will do anything you ask of them, Mimosa are cleaner was lovely and great at her job thanks Mimosa.now the hotel itself was spotless clean the cleaners are always working, the lobby area was very grand and clean nice decor , 3 swimming pool the top pool near main hotel was large and clean lots of sunbeds and no problem getting them, there was a small indoor pool which was heated,( Outdoor pools are Not Heated ).and a very large Bottom pool at bottom of the complex lots of sunbeds again Bar and food area and Toilets close by.there are 3 Restaurants all are Excellent the food is okay its nothing special but is more than enough for anyone and is cooked to a good standard .There are two main bars and two pool bars. one is the Lobby bar and another bar near to the Italian Restaurant. Now the lobby bar is ran by a Guy called Michallis and there is also Kiki who are lovely and they never stop working but they are under a lot of pressure work wise as the bar is on the small side, and a lot of people go to this bar. and also the other bar is very busy at night which can cause problem getting drinks and people not waiting their turn as everyone gets frustrated waiting for service this not the Staffs fault they do there best to please everyone, Maybe a bigger bar or another Bar at night or just a couple more staff would help, Now the staff are lovely from the Cleaners to the Bar Staff and the Waitresses they cannot do enough for you you ask and if its possible its done. we had a very pleasent experience in meeting a waitress called Sia thats her shortened name who works in the italian restaurant, see pic of her with this report, she was lovely and nothing was to much trouble and her professionalism showed through as well as her good nature. she is a Credit to the Hotel thank you Sia from Vinny and Rose. the Complex has many other Facilities worth mentioning there are 4 shops one being a supermarket and gifts type a little pricy though can get cheaper if you go out,There is a Spa onsite but very overpriced 50 euros for 45 mins did not use it so cannot comment on it further, the Drinks where okay mostly cocktails but most drinks where on the all inclusive which was good and a plus point for the Hotel.all the Villa have there own private pool outside a sunbeds very nice maybe next time ! all the rooms and Villas have Fantastic Sea views. so now the the minus points the reception staff although i had no major issues with them could maybe lighten up a little maybe smile !! they where a little on the serious side and made you feel they where unapproachable, my wife went to ask about an upgrade to a Villa for which we where willing to pay for. did not expect it for free though that would have been nice, but was told that everything was full although was told by friends that the villa near them was empty all week and it was the the first week in may the Hotel was not at full capacity yet, but was told this could not be talked about i will not mention the guys name at reception, but this was only a minor issue the other is Toilets if you are in the Main lobby bar the walk to the toilets its a little far maybe a convenience near the Reception Area. as a hotel cannot fault it its Fantastic but its the Staff like Sia. Michalliss, Kiki. Mimosa that make this Hotel a lovely place to stay they work hard but always have a smile !! will i come back Yes i will already checking that out but maybe a Villa with a Pool this time. I recommend this hotel anyone who wants it all in one place but a little up and down hill if mobility not good Vinny

Room Tip: All rooms 90% have Sea view my room 149-160 good views
