Princess Flora Hotel
Ranked #18 of 20 Hotels in Kallithea
Reviewed 7 August 2008

We've stayed at Princess Flora for one week. The room was small, but clean, but we had a balcony with pool view, and it was great for cooling down after the sunbathing. It was always windy, but in 35 degrees it helps. The staff was friendly, and we loved the food as well. We were on halfboard, although you can reserve AI as well. The hotel is close to Rhodos town, the bus ticket was only 1,4EUR. You can rent a car in the hotel, but there is no fix rate for it! Watch out! The closest beach (500m) called Agia Marina was wonderful for snorkelling. The sunbed was 5 EUR . There is one another beach close to the hotel (700 m), which is by the hotel Sun Garden. It is bigger, and more suitable for swimming. But if you like snorkelling, I recommend Agia Marina! Beautiful. This year the taxi cost from the airport to the hotel 21 EUR. Be aware! The reception can reserve taxi only on that date, when you need it! I asked the reception to reserve us a taxi one day before our departure, and they confirmed it, but next day, when we were waiting for it, nobody came.. The other receptionis said, that they cannot reserve it in advance.
But all together I really enjoyed our stay. If you want to relax, this is a great hotel for you! There is a little supermarket in the hotel, and a bigger shop close to it, but nothing else. If you want to go out at evening, you have to go to Rodos or Faliraki, or Kalithea centre.

We, two adults, one teenager, and one 11year old stayed in the Princess Flora for one week. We arrived after midnight at the hotel, and the information stated sandwiches, fruit and mineral water awaited us in the room. Well that never happened. There was nothing left in the room. The room was exceptionally small for four people, basic but clean. The bathroom was so small it was difficult to turn around, no welcome shampoo etc, just two very small bars of soap which would only have been enough for one person for a few days. We had to ask for extra pillows 4 in all. We were given one and then when we again requested we were given threevery lumpy pillows the next day. Overall the staff were OK, but being 'all inclusive' guests we were asked each day our room number and how many staying, even though we were wearing our allocated wrist bands! The food, well what can I say, if you like hard boiled eggs for breakfast then your luck was in. There were some very strange combinations for lunch, and what wasn't eaten at lunch appeared for dinner either that evening or the following day jazzed up with some tomato sauce or herbs. As for fresh fruit, well that is a myth. The whole week we were offered melon chunks twice and tinned peaches once. What a shame as fruit was cheap and plentiful on the island. We bought our own. No nightly entertainment except one evening the Disco started around 9.30. All in all a boring and basic place to stay. We certainly won't be returning, and would rate it 2* at best.

My wife and I really travel a lot. We usually stay in hotels from 2-4 stars, depending on location (and current budget). We both travelled in more than 20 countries together, seen a lot of resorts, and can really compare.
For our summer holidays we were searching for some family friendly place (our dougter was 1 year old at the time) with AI, near the beach, with good connection to some city. We also asked for a bigger room with enough storage space (for 2 weeks holiday with 1-year older you need it). In ITS Billa reisen (Austria) we were advized to go there.
So, in short...
Rooms: very small, storage space enough for one rucksack of staff, not very clean, some things were falling apart, shabby, in white-gray tone, depressive. Room service not regular (despite announcement of every other day), cleaned inadequately, clean towlels after complaint (after a week).
Food: Buffet acceptable for 3 days, but 14 days... you will eat the same breakfast, food is not well prepeared (same dish is one day too spicy, other day raw, third with ketchup all over it), choce of drinks in AI is limited to 2 sorts of juice (Fanta, Cola), one sort of wine and a beer - as AI guest you will feel as a second class guest (always served last). Snacks consists of same sandwich (one sort of salamy from breakfast), ice cream and pizza. You always have to give you room number when asking for something (AI ring doesn't count), you feel like they count every extra bite of yours.
Personel: except few people in restaurant and one cleaning lady, very unfriendly. Hotel manager is a primitive idiot who will tell you to piss off on every complaint and even ask you to leave if you are not pleased with the "service". Very nice indead.
Ambience: Pool never cleaned, some bugs were swimming in it for more than 10 days. Hotel manager fooed cats in hotel area, cats feel like at home and eneter the rooms on groun level. Complaints (including bringing cats into his office) didn't help. I have found cats sleeping in my bags, bad, even childrens bed almost regulary (advice from personel: "lock the doors and windows and turn on AI" - very nice).
Surrounding: nearest beach is nice, water clean, really close (about 200m), but nobody tells you that you have to cross main road (Greeks don't have a habit to stop to no-one, crossing the street is a lotery), and the nices thing: you share the same beach with biggest army base in this part of Mediteranean(!!). So, view on tankers bringing oil to the base is common view. Next beach belongs to other hotel but is open for anyone. Nice, clean (blue flag), but still - not your hotel. Sun beds are free. Sorounding of the hotel in general very dirty (small industrial zone), nothing in the walk distance (no restaurants, bars, etc. only in neighbour hotel).
So, all together, acceptable if you are 18 looking for only a place to sleep over (bus connection to city of Rhodes regular, about 20 mins. drive) and if you are tired enough not to spot anything else. But there are much cheaper places offering the same "comfort". The same hotel was sold to us as a "family friendly hotel" meaning calm place... but to some kids from Germany it was sold as "party hotel". From the same agency (ITS Billa reisen). Their main complaint was that they can not be at the pool whole night screeming around and drinking (probably including throwing out to the pool).
I will not recommend it to anyone, really.
