Had I read the reviews on here prior I would probably not have stayed.
We stopped the night for a birthday meal. The hotel staff were very welcoming and helpful.
Rooms are lovely, clean and well furnished. The meal in the restaurant was very nice with good sized portions and the staff could not do enough to help. The buffet breakfast was very nice also, although they did run low on a few of the cooked items but quickly rectified this.
The free wifi was a nice addition given the lack of 3G phone signal. The only downside is the time it takes to log in every 30mins, maybe could consider issuing guests with a username and password daily instead of requiring name, address & e-mail address (just a thought).
The bar is a little pricey but having stayed in a few hotels recently I would say the prices were on par and expected.
Overall would stay again.

Thank you for your excellent comments on your recent stay, here at Alexandra House. We do get lots of positive comments about our food and they are much appreciated. We are currently discussing with our WIFI providers about improving the service, however, there are internet cards that can be purchased from Reception. Thanks again for your valid comments and we welcome you back soon,

Thanks

A good hotel designed really for business users with a pool and gym heavily used by Nationwide.

Prices for food and drink are expensive and phone signal bad plus internet patchy. Nothing around to walk to but the nearest pub is really good Calley Arms for food and drink and cheaper but only a 10 minute drive

Thanks for your response on Trip Advisor.

Although we are predominantly a Conference Centre, we have all the facilities and welcome leisure guests, our Food and Beverage Prices are comparable with other 4 star hotels within the local area.

Please check websites for our current offers, as we frequently offer discounted rates to our Leisure guests.

I've stayed here probably 10 times for business (the company I work for use it). Rooms are good, clean and spacious with nice decor. The lounge is a good size and I've always found the staff friendly and helpful

Location is a bit remote but the surrounds are pleasant if you just want to get out for a stroll for fresh air.

Major drawback is the food which warrants a 1 star rating. They seem over ambitious and under competent. As an example, last night as part of a set menu I had an emmental soufflé which was basically a vile, cold cheese scone. They clearly aren't able to cater for that kind of cuisine, just do the simple things well please instead !

Would also agree with the mobile signal issues which is very frustrating if there on business - having to stand outside in December to make a call is not fun.

Dear Craig,

Thank you for your review about Alexandra House.

Your comments have been fed back to the Kitchen Team regarding the standard of food, we aim to provide food of a high standard and with a good variety and I apologise that the food you received wasn't of that standard.

We are currently investigating into the Mobile Phone coverage and we hope this will be resolved very soon.

Hmmmmm... A "business" hotel in the back end of beyond. Ended up forced to stay due to a clash between a work party and a rubbish taxi company. From the miserable, incompetent, po-faced staff to the hilariously over priced bar (that'll be £10 for two watery Peronis) it was just [--].
Would I stay here again? Not if they paid me.
Would I come within 10 miles of the place? No.
Frankly, I'd rather sleep in the car.
Can't think of a single redeeming feature - JUST DON'T BOTHER.

Dear Trip Advisor Community,

Clearly this guest has had a bad night, but please don't accept this review as being a true reflection of Alexandra House.

We are situated in the Countryside, but are easily accessible and we are only 8 minutes away from Junction 16 of the M4.

Our Peroni is from Kegs which would be impossible to water down, and all our staff are trained to give the highest customer service.

Please read other reviews which give a more balanced response to what Alexandra House is like.

Kind Regards

Stayed two nights at the weekend - Generally very good. The room was lovely, the staff were friendly and efficient and the free use of the pool etc was included in the price.

On the downside the bar is relatively expensive for both drinks and bar food and there isnt an alternative within walking distance. The Hotel also has no Orange / EE or 3 Mobile network signal inside and an intermittent network signal outside. I appreciate that this isn't the Hotels fault but I feel that they should mention it on their website. The 'free wi-fi' worked well in the rooms but was a nuisance to set up and had to be requested rather than offered.

Would I stay again - no, unfortunately the lack of the mobile phone reception in my case is a deal breaker, I wouldn't have booked the stay if I had been aware of the issue beforehand. If I swap networks to one that works in the Hotel (o2 for example) then Yes.

Dear IanB,

Thanks for your comments on the Trip Advisor community, we are aware of the issues surrounding the coverage for mobile phone networks. We have great coverage for O2 and Vodafone, however the Orange Mast, which we are sat between, is only working at 25% capacity.
We are investigating this and looking into various solutions, for example, having an in house mast. We will ensure that this will be resolved.

I stay here for business quite often. The location is remote, but fine. For the price the rooms are pretty good - but the tv is small and selection of channels not great. Takes away from having a relaxing night in.

The lounge is fine but the the restaurant food is just not good. The breakfast buffet is really greasy and overcooked and the menu items just aren't great for the price. It seems like they could/should be able to make food that doesn't drive most out to eat.

The phone reception and wifi process are archaic. For a hotel that is primarily for business it doesn't make sense to not make the wifi more accessible. Phone reception seems a problem regardless of provider (I've tried 3!).

Hotel is clean and service is good, but given the isolation of its location it would be worth it for them to offer room amenities (tv!), communication coverage and quality of food so people didn't need to go offsite.

Dear Shelley H,

Thank you for your comments about your stay here at Alexandra House. I recently made the management decision, to have Free WiFi rather than upgrade all the televisions within the venue. This is rather than charging for WIFI. I have checked the statistics and per day over 200 users are accessing WIFI for free, therefore I believe the decision I made, was a correct one.
The comments you have made about our Breakfast service have been passed on to our Kitchen Team, we are always reviewing our standards, and our Kitchen Team always work hard to ensure all food is of a high quality with a variety of choice.

Kind Regards
